Hubby may be getting a management job there, so, we have started to look at the areas around Indy. What are the nice areas/school districts around there?

Where would he be working?? Downtown -- North Side -- South Side?? That would probably change the answers you would get.

I live on the northside. The schools on the Northside in Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville are all pretty good and the areas are nice as well. From most of those cities you can get downtown in 20-30 mins depending on traffic.

You should go to http://www.mibor.com/resources/search.asp and check out the home prices / areas that you might be interested in. The cities I mentioned above are in Hamilton / Boone Counties.

In terms of schools, the first place that pops into mind is "Carmel", but there are a number of nice school systems in some of the towns just outside of Marion County. Our daughter has a friend that moved to Brownsburg and likes it there. Another moved to Greenfield.

We really like the Indy area and have lots of friends down there. If we had to leave Michigan, Indy would be our likely first place to think of moving. An area inside of Indy that I really like is Broad Ripple, but I have no idea about the schools.

If that's the case, you probably wouldnt want Carmel / Fishers and that would be a heafty drive.

Zionsville could be done, but still might be a bit far. I dont know much about the schools, but you might also want to look in Avon / Brownsburg.

Avon, Brownsburg, and Plainfield are all nice places that would be close to his work. All have good schools. Avon (particularly south of 36) and Plainfield would be best for a job near the airport- an easy, short commute. I love Hendricks county - it has all the shopping I need, an easy drive to downtown, and less traffic than Hamilton County :) Well, and I can drive to the airport in 10-15 minutes to get on a non-stop flight to Disney ;)

I lived in Franklin on the southside, and loved it there. Great sense of community.

We live new Brownsburg and are very happy with our schools. It takes us maybe 10 minutes to get to the airport, 15 -20 with heavy traffic. It has probably the most small-town feel of the three towns and is closest to Indianapolis. Plainfield is very convenient to the business area just north of the airport, and it has a large "lifestyle"-type shopping center, but some of the surrounding area is a little industrial for my taste (makes sense, near the airport). Avon is growing like crazy with shopping and amenities. I don't know much about the schools, other than they have an outstanding music program at the high school.

My family just moved from Avon after living there for 12 years. I would agree with everyone that Avon, Brownsburg or Plainfield would all be good choices. They all have great school systems, with Avon & Brownsburg being the largest and Plainfield being the smallest.

With that in mind, we just moved from Avon to Danville which is another small town just outside of Avon with easy access to the Airport. Danville's schools are good and are much smaller. Danville only has 4 schools total for grades K-12 whereas Avon has 8 elementary schools for just grades K-4. We like the small town feel of Danville and we actually still have a town square and free activities to choose from every weekend. I think your choice depends on what size of a city you are used to and what size school you want your kids to go to. One thing we disliked about Avon was that our children were being redistricted every 3 years which meant new schools and new friends even though you hadn't moved - just something to keep in mind with the larger school systems. Good luck! Indy definitely has low housing prices and a low cost of living compared to alot of other cities!

I live in Danville and love being on this side of town. Small town atmosphere, lots to do (in Hendricks County) and quick access downtown. I will say I have noticed better driving habits over here...well, until they decided to put in those roundabouts that no one understands how to use. I will say Avon has grown very quickly and is, in my opinion, a messy traffic disaster most of the time. Danville, Brownsburg, Plainfield - all excellent towns with great schools. Plainfield would be the best commute for you, though! If you have any specific questions, just send me a PM!

Thank you...I will add Danville to my list, going to start checking out houses today and we will fly in one weekend to check the areas out and houses we like ;)
