Thinking about making the leap to Mac...

Not Apple just companies like Apple.

Well, let me assure you, while Dell's customer support has always been friendly, I'll never buy another because I'd prefer to speak with someone who speaks English as a first language.

I doubt Apple is any worse than the companies that make other computers, so IMO, that's a draw if what you say is true.

I have both. The ONLY people I tell to avoid the macs are avid gamers.

I've got a Dell PC that we've have nothing but trouble with ever since we bought it two years ago. DH just bought a MacBook a few weeks ago and LOVES it!! He has been on the phone with them frequently since then getting stuff set up and just trying to figure stuff out, and they've all been extremely helpful!! Compared with the numerous phone calls we've made to Dell with zero help at all - if it was helpful, we certainly couldn't understand them!! Never again will I buy a Dell!!

Best advice is to try it for yourself. Honestly, I have both at work and I use my PC a lot more because it has less problems, easier to use and better performance, IMO. Obviously many feel differently. So what I tell you might not be consistent with your experience. Try things out for yourself :)

ITA!!! I have to use a Mac at work and I absolutely HATE it! It is always having some sort of meltdown that requires technical support. I just got it back from Apple (3rd time this school year  ) and I'm wondering how long it will be before I have to send it back. Last time it was less than a week! :scared1:

As far as I'm concerned, a PC is far superior to Mac, and much friendlier on the budget too!

What kind of Mac is it, out of curiousity?

We have owned numerous Macs over the years and have never had a problem with any of them. We currently own 7 at my hubby's business, his desktop at home, his laptop, my laptop and both of our kids' laptops - no problems with any of them. Not sure what sort of 'meltdown' could have possibly occurred to cause someone to have to get technical support, especially on 3 different occasions in one year. Macs are known to be very user friendly. :confused3

You will LOVE a Mac if you get one and you will never want another type again.

I've been on the same Mac - a G3 - for over 9 years. The monitor died the third year, apple fixed it for free and shipped it both ways for us.

Never a virus, never needed to be sent in to get rid of "stuff".

I think if you put a pc (esp Dell) thread side by side with a Mac thread, you will find that the Mac owners are by far more satisfied, even giddy about their computers.

I must say I've found customer care for my Mac impeccable :)

I wish I could vouch for that, but since both of our Macs have been running flawlessly for almost a year, I haven't had much dealings with customer support. My FIL's Mac is almost 7 years old, and while he's had to do a few upgrades and deal with a few small issues, it still works great. I can't think of anyone who owns a seven year old PC.

We've got a Macbook Pro and love it. We've got two PCs and I'd like to set them on fire. In fact, we unplugged one of them, not willing to deal with a ridiculous Windows issue. It's holding down a table in the basement now. My SIL works for Apple and is a total Mac geek, she's got some Apple computer dinosaurs that still run.
I'll never buy another PC again. Get the Mac! :thumbsup2

Customer support is horrible, when people bring up complaints to them in there forums they often just delete the thread and refuse to acknowledge this.
I have found customer support to be great every time I have used them. First of all, they were in the US and spoke English. Second, they were patient and spent as much time as was needed. Third, they actually solved the problem.

I've also had cause to look in their forums and there are negative threads/complaints in them, so I'm not sure what the comment about deleting threads that have complaints. If you want to see complaints, they even have negative opinions along with the positives in their product reviews (look at batteries).

I want one of the New MAC notebooks!:thumbsup2
But 1800k!:sad2:

Which is becoming even less of an issue if someone is willing to use Boot Camp. :) Being able to boot natively into XP or whatever, makes gaming a cinch as well. As an avid gamer myself however, I now prefer sitting in front of the large screen HDTV with my PS3 or Wii. :lmao:

Alot of Apples programs are crippleware. The most recent update of quicktime has made working with QT files with anything else beside Final Cut Pro impossible, files do not load up. Customer support is horrible, when people bring up complaints to them in there forums they often just delete the thread and refuse to acknowledge this.

Please, you obviously have had issues with Apple\Mac software. I have news for you, ALL companies are going to have some issues. I've been in the IT field for a very long time now. Apple is far, far, far, far less prone to problems than anyone els out there, and a JOY to deal with when it comes to resolving them.

Referring to posts on Apple's own forums regarding posts being deleted and issues is basically like sending someone to the complaint boards for any company. To me, the fact that Apple even HAS support discussion forums on the web is proof positive they are willing to offer more to their customers than many.

You had a problem, you are not happy, get over it. For every complaint you see or hear about on the web, there are 100 NON complainers that never post.

Maybe you don't.... are you talking that super sexy looking small one? If so, be aware... only ONE usb port.

These look really, really nice, but they do appear to be designed for travel or as a 2nd machine to use while out of the office. I don't think they are really geared toward being a primary machine.

I'd love to pick one up just for the cool factor, but it's just not practical for the type of work I do either.
