Hello,

We will soon be a family of 5, and looking into camping at Disney. It would be my DH, DS 6, DS 4, DD 1 and myself. I'm curious about everything to do with the idea of camping. Should we do a tent or get a cabin? Is there a lot to do? Do you feel Disney? How are the sites? Thanks!

Do you already tent camp? If so, then camping at FW will be a wonderful experience. If not don't make this trip your first camping experience.

It is a great camp ground, and has that wonderful Disney touch. If you have bikes bring them. You can rent a golf cart as well. There are 2 pools. There a 2 stores/gift shops. A beach, (sorry no swimming). Horses, carriage rides, boats to rent. A campfire and movie program, roast some marshmallows. Disney transportation will take you any where in the world.

I have never stayed in a cabin, so others can tell you about that.

Unless you just love tent camping, I would go for a cabin, if your budget allows. With children that small the first thing that comes to my mind is that's going to be alot of work to tent camp, unless of course you have been tent camping for years and have your system worked out. Going to the parks all day and then having the added burden of taking care of your camp site, to me would just suck the life out of the fun. I have never stayed in a cabin either but most people that have rave about it. The Ft is one of the nices campground that you'll ever stay at, to me it's about as disney as you can come for a campground, now whenever we stayed at resorts it did seem alittle more magical, but that's just me. There is alot to do there, so much in fact that we were there 10 days and didn't even get get a chance to swin or do the outdoor movies.

Ditto.

We have stayed at many of Disneys resorts and once we stayed at Fort Wilderness we knew we were hooked. My family will never stay anywhere but the campground. There are so many things to do for the kids (and face it, who wants to be stuck in a hotel room with bored kids). The golf carts, pools, beach, tether ball, volley ball, boat rental, horseback riding, campfire sing a long and more make it the perfect vacation.

My wife and I used to tent camp when dating and early in our marriage. Had a pretty good routine and went to a variety of places (including camping on the beach at the Red Sea!).

Add a one year old to the mix and the fun level really dropped. He woke up with all the new sounds early in the morning and we just could not keep him out of the dirt.

When he became 2 we took him out again and it was miserable. Not everyone has the same experience and we all really enjoy camping now.

We really enjoyed the cabins at Fort Wilderness and now enjoy trailer camping. Not as much theming in the cabins as some of the resort hotel rooms but they are very nice. Lots of home-made disney decorations on the campsites in the Fort add a special kind of Disney theme.

With that many small children I would think you would have a better time if you had a cabin. You have a place to come back and rest. A lot of people do not realize how hot Florida can be with the humidity, no matter what time of year. Winters are great but summers are too hot, which makes very cranky kids. We just got back with a 5 year old and he has been to WDW many times but never has he been this cranky. The nights were warm and I do not think he slept well in the tent. There was not much for him to do except go to the pool, and movies/cookout. After being at the parks all day he was exhausted. Hope you have fun. Valirie:wizard:
