That's correct and it's a one time fee (unless DVC does to the other resorts like they are doing to OKW - add 15 more years for an additional $25 a point). Plus annual dues in the range of $4.25 to $5 a point each year.

You can usually purchase points for a bit less on resale, but it takes longer and Disney can always buy them out from under you with Right of First Refusal (ROFR).

if you don't have to buy in at AKV, whether for extra years or location, i think you will get a much better deal buying resale. as already stated, you do have to put up with some delays, though.

but if you hate a particular resort, you shouldn't buy there just to save some money - you never know when you might get "stuck" there...

Look at the time share store to give you an idea of what points cost for a resale. I decided to go this route because I don't need the points until spring and I don't intend to finance. My contract is at Disney now for ROFR. The points are quite a few dollars cheaper.

The points would definitely be less if you buy resale. There is a delay as everyone has stated. If you are interested in AKV, you need to buy from Disney. If you are going to finance, Disney gives reasonable terms and does not report the mortgage to credit agencies.

If you buy through DVC you will receive your points as soon as you make your down payment.

If AKV is not your goal, resale will save you $$.
