Thinking about buying again

DH and I are ready to buy into DVC and we want to start out with 150 pts (hopefully this can get us three nights).

Question: If we purchase points do we do it according to "use year" or are the points flexible for anytime of the year? We want the option of going on vacation in May or in October if we want to.

I know that Use Year means when your points are renewed. So if you have 150 pts and use year of Feb, you will get a new batch of 150 pts every use year (provided you do not borrow them). So you can use them at anypoint after your use year starts or borrow them from the next year. You can also bank 1 year, use current year, and borrow from one year to have 3 years worth of points in one shot!

As for getting three nights, depends on where, when, and what type of accomodations you need (studio in SSR during Adventure season will get you 12 nights!, 1bd will get 6 nts in Adventure season)

Not sure how the maintenance works if you bank or borrow them. Maybe someone else can answer that question for me? hint hint

150 points - 3 nights - it should get you 10 nights in a studio...

yes DVC is very flexible - you decide when you go, what size unit, how long you stay (DVC actually allows only 1 night stay.....I have done that)

most timeshare it is 7 days - some now allow 4 and 3 days stay - but I think DVC is the only one to allow 1 night stay.

the use year is only important when you are banking or borrowing. Otherwise it really doesn't matter.

Oct or May - how about a Sept use year???? - I have a June use year and love it. but May stays can be tricked.

We need a one bedroom at least, but two bedrooms is much better. Anytime in May or October. We don't need to stay 7 nights...3 or 4 nights is just fine.

Dream Season May 1-31 at Saratoga Springs:

Sunday through Thursday points for a one bedroom are 25 each.

for a 2 bedroom they are 31 points each.

Choice Season Oct 1-31 at Saratoga

S-TR: one bedroom 22/nt
2 bedroom 29/nt

Five nights in a 2 bedroom for either of those seasons would be 145 (october) and 155 (May) for Sun. thru Thursday nights (checking out Friday morning). That is really a good deal if that is all the longer trips you plan to take. That is assuming SSR. OKW will be a bit less and all the others will be a bit more.
