Think it'd be a good idea?

During my last trip to Disney World, we went to a few character meals (including Crystal Palace where this idea came to us). There were just two of us (ages 18 and mid-40s), and we were literally surronded by little kids. I have no problem with MOST kids MOST of the time. However, between the crying twoo-year-old on one side, and the seven screaming kids on the other, my nerves were worn too thin.

So, after we left, we were thinking and thought it would be a good idea for Disney to do a "adult-only" character meal, possibly with some of the villians. I, personally, love all the villains, and find the parks lacking in villains. I know there used to be a villain CM, but the characters got changed after several children became upset.

So, do you think an adult-only CM would be profitable for Disney? I know it's a family destination, but they already have a few places that are adult-only...

I would like an adult only restaurant, but you are going to get the goat of all these "my children have the right to be everywhere" people.

:lmao:

Y'know, when we discussed it, we talked about it possibly being once a week or every other day. Personally, I'd be willing to pay more for an adult-only CM, just because it's a different experience. Even people who love kids can get tired of the 24-hour kid mania that is Disney.

Mom of two boys (5&8) here ... They are quite good most of the time:goodvibes ... but my younger one can still have a melt-down now and then ... I think that this is a GREAT idea! Maybe make it a villians dinner for only ages 12 and up or something like that. You could do dark lighting and effects. Something for older kids to "move up to". We wouldn't be in the market to go to it anytime soon, but it might be fun for teens as well as adults. I am an overprotective, overbearing, all-kids-all-the-time kind of mom ... but I do realize that everyone else in the world does not find my kids antics to be as adorable as DH and I do, and I can certainly see how adults might enjoy something like this that would be less kid-intensive. I imagine that a time will come for us when we might even like it:rolleyes1 For right now we are right at home between the screaming toddlers and family of seven, though;)

Hmmmm I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Now, if they wanted to make any of the Signature Restaurants or, say, Le Cellier adult only, I'd have no problem with that (in fact I think it would be a great idea).

But character meals are a bit different....I know many adults love them too...but (IMO) they are predominantly geared towards kids. To me it'd be the equivilent of having an adults-only Chuck E Cheese.;) . I just don't think it'd be very profitable for Disney, because I would guess that at least 75% of people eating at the character meals have children in their parties.

It would not bother me at all, but I wonder if Disney would find it profitable. I think they might experiment with an adults only restaurant first.

Sounds interesting... I definitely would check it out! I'm surprised they haven't done like a murder-mystery type dinner at one of the Disney resorts. I know they do it off site, but Disney just has a way with things. Infact, a friend of mine went to one at the Grosvenor I believe (one of the non-Disney resorts at LBV) & said it was kind of cheesy & she would have liked to see what Disney would have done with something like that.

Here's my issue...and I'm not gonna tell you my kids deserve to be everywhere...in fact 99.9% of the reason we're bringing my mom with us is because there are places I want to go when we're there WITHOUT MY KIDS. I have a feeling my dinner at Narcosse's will be a lot more enoyable with my kids asleep in our hotel :rotfl: I just think its very limiting to people who aren't able to bring someone for childcare or aren't comfortable leaving their kids with a stranger to preclude them from doing something in a vacation spot that IS so geared towards families.

I would *hope* most parents would use good judgment about restaurants that are more geared towards adults. You certainly won't find me out with my kids after 6:30pm at any of the nicer restaurants on property. My latest ressie WITH my kids is for 6pm...most of them are around 5.

If your nerves are shot after a breakfast...imagine living with 2 of the little buggers 24/7. I'm certifiable at this point :lmao:

I think a CM geared toward teens & adults is a great idea. WDW doesn't really do anything to cater to that age. Most teenagers, especially boys, have no interest in the CMs that are offered now. That age seems to be ignored by Disney, when it comes to dining. IMHO, they would have to include the older kids, if they want this type of CM to succeed. As has been noted, most adults would prefer one of the nicer restaurants, if it's going to be strictly adults only.

There used to be a villians meal. I wish Disney would bring it back.

The only thing I would say about the timing is - please remember that many WDW visitors are from other places, in other time zones. We happen to be West Coast, and generally, we stay on West Coast time all week, rather than mess with waking up early and forcing ourselves into bed early on our only vacation. That means that we don't hit the parks until 10-11am, but we stay very late, and we tend to eat dinner at the later hours (8-9pm). Last visit, we had some very rude looks by having our kids out at Epcot at 11pm, which is only 7pm our time, and hardly an unreasonable time for our girls to be awake. We're obviously respectful coming back to our rooms at a late hour, etc, and realize that most families will be sleeping. But restaurants being "no-kids" after, say, 7pm, might not work for that reason only.

That said, I think that kid-free events or restaurants are perfectly *fine*! We'd probably go ourselves. I'm just hoping that our one evening out w/o the kids (Artist Point) will be relatively quiet.
