I'm planning our fourth annual trip to the world for Sept 2006. We just returned from POR/SOG/CR in March 2005. What things do you wish could be guaranteed at room reservation? My recent situation is that I just booked AKL for 11 nights and asked for a bunk bed/queen room and was told it wouldn't be guaranteed. I will have a 14 yr old DD and 8 yr old DS. There is NO WAY she's going to share a queen bed with her brother so if I don't get one then we are going to have to make special arrangements somehow. We specifically booked AKL because of the fact that the kids could have seperate beds. Of course we are going during value season so there should be a bunk bed room available but I sure wish they could take some of the surprise out of it and make it be a category of room somehow so that you could specifically book that room type.

I realize that things like floor, building etc can't be guaranteed but as long as it's the same amenities that you booked ie savannah view you are still going to have a great vacation.. even if you have the inconvenience of having to walk far to the food court. But it will really dampen things if your teenage DD has to sleep with her little brother for almost two weeks :earboy2: Oh well at least it will be Disney!

Completely agree about the non-smoking requests...

My friend and I had to get bumped from the ASMu because there weren't any non-smoking rooms! Crazy! We were checking in at 7pm - it wasn't that late!

However, we did go to POP Century and had an amazing time so I guess you could say the hassle was worth it!

I am getting ready to stay at the POP for the first time and the only thing I wish is that we could find out which resort we are staying at before we get there. I was told that I wouldn't find out until I checked in. I was sort of disappointed (?) by that.

Non-smoking would be at the top of my list

Do you mean building? Only the Classic Years (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s) are open at POP. The reason you do not know is beacuse rooms are not assigned untill 3 days (if my memory serves me right!) prior to your check in.

Non-Smoking rooms (of course, the easiest to fix this would be to make ALL rooms non-smoking  ). I can see them running out, cuz I know smokers who request non-smoking rooms since they don't smoke in the rooms (never mind that the smoke gets everywhere anyways). I never make it a medical request, cuz I've never not gotten one, but I would not stay in a smoking room, I'd never sleep with my sinuses.

I don't have a problem with bed type. I usually request a King and don't generally have a problem getting it. If I want to make sure it's guaranteed than I book at POR or POFQ so I get what I book.

It is not just Disney. Throughout the hotel industry almost nothing is guaranteed. Everything is just a request.

Most rooms in the resorts are non smoking but can only be guaranteed for medical reasons.

View and bedding are requests only except for the moderates where there is a premium for king rooms or watrer view.

that we get a bunk bed at AKL too. We are going with ds-15 and dd-12. I didn't request any special savannah view in hopes that we get the bunk bed. Going to pack an air matress just in case!

Are the medical requests often not honored? I did request a non-smoking room because I and DS have asthma. My confirmation from AAA says non-smoking guaranteed due to medical reasons. I guess, if the room hadn't been smoked in for several weeks, we'd probably be OK, but if anyone next to us is smoking on patio/balcony, we'll never be able to go out there or if there is smoke in the hallway.

Would you pay extra for a guaranteed bunk bed room?

Many moderates charge extra for the guaranteed king bed rooms.

on the pricing, but yes, I would pay for a guarenteed bunk room.

Isn't deluxe savannah view a bunk bed type room? I think you CAN pay for a bunk bed room.

but they are deluxe savanah rooms that come with a queen, bunks and a daybed. For 5 or more people. Plus there is a hefty price hike from the standard savanah. It's just the 4 of us, and I don't want to pay $100+ more a night.

Why is this??:confused3

I wish they would change the way they allocate the "Preferred" Buildings at the Values.

For example - All Star Sports - Make Courtyard view of Surfs Up and Touchdown Preferred.

I would pay extra for that, but since the rear facing rooms of Surfs Up are Preferred, I'll take my chances on the larger pool of courtyard rooms in the "Standard" buildings at Values.

(FYI, many moons ago, it used to be this way. They had three levels of rooms at the Values, Swimming Pool View, Courtyard View, Other View) In 98, they changed to one rate for all rooms at the Values, then in 00 or 01, they started charging extra for the closest building, regardless of view.

1) Smoking Preferences (non smoking in our case)

2) Bedding types - also have the problem with my children - will NOT sleep together. They fuss and fight all night (literally, will wake up complaining about she's pushing me etc . . .). And I would pay extra to be guaranteed something like bunkbeds, up to about $25/night. I think $100 a night is unreasonable to get a certain bedding configuration.
