Things you wish could be guaranteed.

It is not just Disney. Throughout the hotel industry almost nothing is guaranteed. Everything is just a request.

I beg to differ. With many hotel companies, you can guarantee smoking/nonsmoking, or king bed/two beds. You can also guarantee view rooms as they usually sell for more money, and are therefore a different category.

That certainly doesn't apply to all, but a large number. Disney is a little behind the times, IMHO, by not being able to at least guarantee a smoking/non-smoking room.

Are the medical requests often not honored? I did request a non-smoking room because I and DS have asthma. My confirmation from AAA says non-smoking guaranteed due to medical reasons. I guess, if the room hadn't been smoked in for several weeks, we'd probably be OK, but if anyone next to us is smoking on patio/balcony, we'll never be able to go out there or if there is smoke in the hallway.

There are times even with a medical request you do not get a NS room and at times we have gotten a NS room only to find it had been heavily smoked in by the previous guest and the resort was sold out, so no where to move.

I personally think as Disney decreases the number of Smoking rooms this situation gets worse.

I would say there is a very good chance you could encounter smoke on patios and balconies as many smokers book NS for thier kids and use the balcony or patio.

Also it seems many have starting requesting NS for medical and Disney just can not fill all the requests.

What I just learned, surprisingly, is that even though hotels "guarantee" non-smoking rooms, they don't always have them. DH travels ALOT for business and always reserves a non-smoking room. Yet, several times he's gotten to the hotel only to be told that all that's available is smoking optional. There's never been any response to why he could reserve one particular type of room, only to have it unavailable when he checked in. Fortunately for the hotel, he doesn't have much of a problem with smoking optional rooms, but it does show that Disney's policy of making non-smoking a request isn't that much different from other hotels where "guarantees" that may or may not be true guarantees.

We MUST have Non-smoking due to DH and DS. I would also prefer to request an area. Bedtype I don't think is an issue. I grew up having to share my bed occ. and while I didn't always like it, there was nothing I could do about it.

Isn't deluxe savannah view a bunk bed type room? I think you CAN pay for a bunk bed room.
I've stayed in a deluxe savannah view room that did not have bunk beds, so even paying the extra money for this room type would not guarantee that you would get bunk beds.

Edited to say: I stand corrected. I see on the WDW website that you can specifically request a Deluxe Savannah View room with bunk beds!

For my DH and I, I wish nonsmoking rooms could be guaranteed and that it would also apply to the balconies. We've been fortunate that we've always been given a nonsmoking room at WDW, but on several occasions we couldn't use the balcony when we wanted to due to some smokers who booked nonsmoking rooms and then smoked out on the balcony. It's particularly bad if this happens to you at AKL because you pay extra for a savannah view room for the privilege of sitting on the balcony watching the animals and then get driven inside by cigarette smoke.

My request is smoking ! :wizard:

The way i see it, if Disney would make the resorts smokefree, then they would lose me as a customer.
I want to be able to smoke. It would make me pick a offsite resort.

If Disney made the parks smokefree, then i would never come back.

I have spend thousands of dollars in Disney parks in the past 16 years, and would continue to spend thousands of dollars for the rest my of life in Disney parks/resorts, IF IM ALLOWED TO SMOKE !!.

I think there should be designated smoking areas. You should enjoy your vacation and I should be able to breathe during mine ;) I, personally, think you should be allowed to smoke. There just needs to be mutual respect and Disney should strive for that by guaranteeing smoking and smoke free rooms. Yeah, it may be complicated at first, but nearly every other hotel in the country manages.

a non smoking room

and to be fresh a view of Mk fireworks everynight !!!!!!!!!!!!
for everyone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Connecting rooms. My grandkids stay in our room sometimes if Mom and Dad go out late.

Just came home from ASMu, we got nothing we requested..not accessible for my DH was my biggest request and was told the day before we left that we would have it, and we didn't get it at check in. Paid extra for preferred, and didn't get it.. they did refund the overpayment. My thinking was if we didn't get accessible we could at least get preferred, but sadly no.

Another who wishes for guaranteed connecting rooms. We would be staying at POR if this was done.

Hey,
Accessible as in disability access?

Yes, when I called the day before we left to make sure we had the disability access I was told yes it was there but they had not assigned the room yet. When I was checking in I was told, the room we were assigned was under a hold for maintance and wouldn't be available for several days, so we got put on the 3rd floor of building 4, which made moving the wheelchair in and out difficult, not to mention tub height and tiny bathroom.

another vote for smoking preference (in our case Non).

Also, connecting rooms...with 2 elementary-aged kids and 2 younger than that, we must have access to all the kids all the time!

As a sidenote, anything guaranteed by Special Services for special needs should be a guarantee, especially if those things are confirmed!

Beth

Let's see
1) No smoking anywhere on Disney Property
2) No loud parties in rooms surrounding us
3) No lines on the rides on which we choose to ride.
4) Sunny days on the days we plan to go to the water parks or the pool.
5) No hurricanes!

::yes::

Betwee Sally's post, and Talking Hands post on problems it just hurts my heart to know that the CM's are not (I dont know trained? responsive? sensitive?) to special needs... I know the underlying cause may be because there are those that find a way to "take advantage" of Disney's generosity, but bottom line...

ITS NOT FAIR... its not fair my son has a hearing loss, (insert anything here that's not 'fair') I actually heard someone at his High school say "hey, its not fair he has a note taker" well *duh its not fair he cant hear!! - - so I've heard the "its not fair wheelchair has a seperate entrance... yes, its total ignorance (not stupid, just 'lack of knowledge') so many of the attractions stuff wheelchairs in the back.... but bottom line those in wheelchairs, those that are blind, deaf, etc would give those "perks" up for life to "normal"

So I wish Disney would guarantee better sensitivity training!

Just curious, did you work thru the Special Reservations number at 407-939-7807 (TTY: 407-939-7670). If so, your accessible room should have been guaranteed and if they didn't have one at check in due to some unforseen problem, they should have found you an accessible room at another resort.
