What is there to do in Nashville?

The Opryland Hotel is an awesome place to visit. We love the laser light show. The Grand Old Opry is also a lot of fun too. If you are a hockey fan the Nashville Predators games are a blast as well.

Being locals we have also gone on bus tours that go past all the country music stars that live in the area. If you are lucky you might run into Billy Ray or Miley Cyrus in Cracker Barrel like we did.

It depends when you will be here and if it will be adults only, or include kids.
We have the Parthenon in Centennial Park, and the Frist Museum downtown. Of course there are all kinds of things to do downtown including restaurants, bars, and shops. The performing arts center(TPAC) and Sommet Center are also downtown and you can check the internet to see what's going on at those venues. If you have kids, we have a science museum called Cumberland Science Center. There is also The Hermitage, home of Andrew Jackson, and several other historical sites like Travelers Rest, Belmont Mansion, Cheekwood, and Fort Nashboro(downtown). Tennessee has a lot of history if you like that. We also have the Titan's football team and the Predator's hockey team. If you're here in the fall, I would suggest checking out Shakespeare In The Park at Centennial Park(you can find the schedule on the internet).

I did the craft fair at Longview Rec Complex last year. I'll be there again this year on March 6.

we just took our first family vacation to Nashville last August and the kids loved it. We went to downtown Nashville and did the Ryman and Country Music Hall of Fame tour. We also went to the Nashville Zoo (clean & very shady) and Musicians Hall of Fame.

we took a couple of day trips to Kentucky (DinoLand) and Georgia (Lookout Mountain) since they weren't that far away.

If you do go to Nashville you HAVE to go to the Loveless Cafe, its world famous for its biscuits and the meatloaf is wonderful

We are not in Nashville but go at least a few times a year. We go to OpryMills for shopping and dinner. There are a lot of outlet malls surrounding Nashville. I 2nd the Hermitage and the Parthenon.

If you are into sushi there is a great place downtown, I just went to it during a conference. It is called Virago. They also have fusion foods. They had a 1/2 price menu from 4-9pm. It was suggested by a friend of a friend and I orginally thought it was sort of a shady place, but when we got there it was GREAT. I would go earlier if you are taking kids. It was no a bad place for kids, but it does have a bar area.

I also suggest taking the highway east and doing a few of the hikes that are just off the highway. Fall Creek Falls is beautiful.

I've never been but my best friend says the Jack Daniels Distillery tour is great and informative. Here is a kicker. They can't serve a sample of their product because it is a dry county. They have a great lemonade and a wonderful restaurant just down the road.

There are many rest areas and visitor centers that have tons of flyers for activites. I am sure you will find something you are interested in. Have a great trip.

Haha! I know, right? That's why I keep asking for suggestions! I feel like I am missing something. I think the city is beautiful, and love the area, but I can't find anything to do, that my family is interested in...

I know it is odd, isn't it? My husband lived in Brentwood when we first met and I expected to fall in love with Nashville. I just never did...it seemed very blah for families. Chattanooga, however, is awesome. I just don't get it; you think they'd take the hint from their smaller cousin

We went to Nashville last week for a few days. I have to add that if you like pizza at all, you need eat at Mafiaoza's Pizza. It is the best pizza we have ever had and it is a must eat at when we are close to the area or on our way back home from WDW! Also, a on Tuedays they have BOGO free slices of pizza and alcohol drinks. The slices are HUGE! Even if you are not there on a Tues, Ide go! Here is their link

Other than that we just swam and shopped. We hit up Toys R Us, Opry Mills mall and another IDK the name of. Im sure there is plenty of stuff to do in the area, we just havent been there to stay much and we are a shopping kind of family!

Is Ru-auns (I have no idea how to spell it), the sushi place still there? I've not been to Nashville in a couple of years but that was our favorite place to eat. It is also downtown.

Our other Asian food place was the _(China?)_ Garden near the airport, but it close at least 5 years ago. I was a neat place for atmosphere too. It had two huge Fu Dogs outside.

I agree that it's somewhat difficult to find kids activities in Nashville. These are my suggestions.

Dining:
Bricktops for lunch if you want to look for celebrities. (The most famous we have seen is Carrie Underwood).

The Pancake Pantry for breakfast. The pancakes are ok, but the experience is fun.

Entertainment:
The Nashville Sounds baseball game is a fun, affordable, family event in the summer. You don't even have to like baseball to have a good time.

The Adventure Science Center aka Cumberland Science Museum is a good museum with several "hands on" activities for kids.

Please don't have any hesitation about moving. We have had to live in ST. Louis for a long time, but would still rather live in central TN. We are origionally from KY, but lived in TN after we were married. It is not the tourist attractions that make it a great place to live. It's the people. We found the people in the area to be welcoming and kind.

don't let the lack of tourist attractions geared to kids keep you from thinking Nashville is a great place. Each commuinity also offers events for kids. Lots of free parks. Nice mix between the slow Southern life-style and city life activiites including music and museums.

for the OP sounds like your trip is almost over. My kids like the Spaghetti Warehouse downtown. The science museum is also okay. I also like just walking around Opryland hotel. (but beware parking is like $15!) You can park at Opry Mills and walk (long walk) back to the hotel though. Nashville also has some good BBQ places. (We like Whitts.)

Love the rolling hills and the lifestyle there.

And I absolutely agree with a PP...LOVELESS is worth the drive! (And the wait!) unique dining experience
