Things to do in Baltimore, MD "We are back in ALABAMA!!"

Boyds Bear Country is just outside Gettysburg. Not sure the ages of your kids, they might like it. Gettysburg has civil war tours if you want to take a tour -- you can do it in your own car, on bike, or in a tourbus.

Don't forget to plan a trip to Lancaster and see the Amish things / Dutch Wonderland if your kids are young and also think about Hershey / Hershey Park for a fun day.

If you are going to the Inner Harbor from where you are, it is probably easier to take the Metro.

Did you go out for crabs yet? You can't miss the crabs.

I think Gettysburg would be a better fit for us on Saturday, I just can't get excited about Hanover. lol DH just loves small towns and finds them interesting, which some are, but more often than not the kids get board.

NO!! I have not tried the crabs yet, but it's on my to do list. :thumbsup2

We will be going to the Inner Harbor on Sunday and will be there for the week. If you have any suggestions for nearby restaurants and activities, I would greatly appreciate it. I made a list going through this link but, I don't know how much of it is closeby. Looking for reasonably priced meals, I have 2 sons that like to eat, DS13 is a big eater.
Would one of the better boat trips be the SEA Dog?
How far is Annapolis?

eyes4mickey, I hope you have a great trip!! I am intrested in this also, so any thing that you all can offer us will be great. :lovestruc

Hanover isn't real exciting...unless you just want to go to the UTZ factory and stock up on snacks!:thumbsup2 I am 9 miles from the PA line... Hanover and MD... I never go there LOL
Unless you just want to go for a drive on some roads... How about Checking out Gettysburg... its really not that much Farther... there is also a SMALL strip of outlets there. You take The same route of Westminster to get to Gettysburg! You have that road down pat! :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: YOU are too funny!! I think you are right about the Hanover thing. I tried to pull up some information on it last night and I didn't get much, and what I did get, the video was enough. :lmao: I hate to hurt DH's feelings, but I think this is one we must skip, or do later in our trip. The kids are dying to see something interesting, ya know? So am I.

Guess where I am headed.... Target in Westminster!!:lmao: Plus, I am stopping at a store up there to get some of those cookies!! The rest of the day we will just hang out here by the pool. DH will not let me venture out to far without him yet. :rolleyes1

ok...so funny! I just literally walked in the door from Target in Westminster! :rotfl2: I probably passed u in the store! LOL You didn't go into Old Navy or Bed bath and Beyond too did u?:rotfl2:
I think you will find more to do in Gettysburg for sure. My husband and I have a pact... NEVER to waste our time driving up to Hanover! You will see lots of old buildings and such in Gettysburg! So he can get his fill there!
Enjoy those BURGER COOKIES! YUMMY I am drooling thinking about them!

:rotfl2: No, I didn't go to Old Navy, but where is it???? :rotfl2:

I did manage to find the Berger cookies and they are WONDERFUL!!!!!! I have had two so far and all of my kids love them too. As a matter of fact, as I was writting this my son walked up and asked for another one. We only have four left.:sad1: :rotfl2: I will have to take some of these back for my friends & family back home to try. :thumbsup2

I talked to DH & we have decided to take the kids to Gettysburg instead of Hanover. I hope they like it. If anyone has any tips about it, please let me know. :)

Where should I look for the Berger Cookies?

How far is Gettysburg from the Inner Harbor?

Sounds like you're having fun!!! We can't wait to head down on Sunday.

Gettysburg from Downtown is probably 2.5 hours, possibly alittle less...

Old Navy is farther up 140 (baltimore Blvd, the main drag you take to Westminster) anyway...its past Target... if you go further up you will pass Honda, then Mc D's, the Mall... It's the light AFTER the mall and the exit for 27. You turn at the light where BB&T bank is... There is a shopping center you can't miss with Panara Bread, Bed Bath and Beyond, Old Navy. Across the street is from that is a Michaels if you get bored and are crafty! LOL
There is also a chickfila on the left side of 140 right in that area. But, I think I read you already found the Owings Mills one! :thumbsup2
And yes, the cookies are Scrumptious! Enjoy! You have to eat them fast cause they are not as good when they get hard! :rotfl2:

I found the Berger cookies at a Shoppers store. I had to ask someone where they were because they were not with the cookies.:laughing:

DH checked tonight & Gettysburg is about 58 miles from us (Owings Mills area) So we are thinking it should not take to long. You will be about 20 more miles or so, I think. :)

Thank you too! Yes, we are having fun. We have not done to much yet, but I feel like I am on a relaxing vacation. It's so easy to keep this little apartment clean compared to my house, and I don't have to worrie about the yard, the pool and all of that. Plus, we get to see some really neat things & we have met some really nice people. I really like Baltimore.:)

Where are you visiting from? We are here from Alabama. We have seen car tags from all over the place, as far away as Texas. :scared1: That's one heck of a drive! There is someone working with DH from CA.

We're from New Jersey. It will take us approx 3 hours to get down there. My son has a technology conference all week, he won 2nd place in the state competetion and will be entering the Nationals down in Baltimore. We can't go too far on the day trips because we will have gaps in the middle of the day of about 4-5 hours so I don't want to go too far from the Inner Harbor.

I'm thinking we will try the Sea dog speed boat and to the tour of the ships. Maybe Ft McHenry. I'm not sure if Annapolis is right there or not but, i'd like to go there too.

WOW! Congratulations to your son!! I understand about having to be back for things. We drove here from Panama City Beach where my middle child had cheer camp the week before we came. There were girls there from Maryland too!! We would do things and have to be back to watch the girls at different times. It was crazy at times, but it was so much fun! I hope your son does well. :)

Annapolis is about 30 mins from the inner harbor. Not to far.
As far as traveling up to Gettysburg remember once you get to Westminster you are going to be on all rural roads. So you can't keep up the fast pace driving! So while the mileage looks close from the harbor, it's going to take a bit longer.
Also watch for PA state troopers. They are relentless!

THANKS!!! Looks like we can do Annapolis, 30 minutes would be as far as I would want to travel. I will have to check it out and see what we can do over there.

there are some good places to eat on the water.....Don't know the names...I am not a frequent Annapolis visitor...I usually head to the Mall if I am in Annapolis...its our Closest Pottery Barn Kids!

Gettysburg is a great day trip. We took our family there in the spring for DH's birthday. We took the double decker bus tour- actually sat on the top, and it even rained a little, but we really enjoyed it. The new visitor center is terrific- you can spend lots of time there, too. Also, when you get to the main hub of Gettsyburg, there are two wine shops there- Adams County and Hauser Estate. They offer tastings at their shops. We liked it so much, that my DH and I went back up another weekend and visisted their wineries- without the kids.
You might also want to chekc out Ellicott City. Main Street is full of historic buildings, some cute shops and great food. It's just a few minutes from my home in Catonsville. There is also a B&O train museum there.
I know others have mentioned Fort McHenry- one of our faves to visit.

Welcome to Bawlmar, hon :)

:rotfl2: Bawlmar!!! That is so funny!! DH said that's how people say it up here. Thank you for the warm welcome too. I have found the people here are so very friendly.

Can I ask you how much the bus tour was? Also, about how long should we plan to be there? DH is dead set on going to Hanover after that for dinner at some Famous hotdog place.:rotfl2: Should be a fun.... LONG... day.

I am also glad to here that about Ellicott City. We are planning to go there to eat at a Mexican place anyway, so that makes me want to go even more. :)

I have to know what this Hot Dog place is in Hanover! It's not sonic is it!:rotfl2::rotfl2:
