Things that you wouldn't think of getting at the dollar store

Palmolive dish wipes to clean the refillable mugs. :flower:

I was glad I read that DIS tip last year.

Our favorite dollar store around here is Deals.

I was at the Dollar Tree today and found Disney nightlights. They have Mickey, Minnie, and Mickey and Minnie together. I always take nightlights to WDW, and the grandsons will love these! I also purchased some disposable sippy cups 6/1.00.

This probably fits under "Containers for toiletries," but anyway, my Dollar Tree has mesh organizers that hang on the shower curtain rod. These are great for toys, shampoo, etc. They are a lifesaver for us at home because we only have 1 tub and it keeps the kids out of my stuff!!

I'm down south (Arkansas)...we have several...Dollar Emporium, Dollar Discount and my fav, Dollar Tree.

You may have to wait til you get down a bit closer to MickeyTown...maybe some others closer to you can reply.

I'm in Arkansas (Leawood in LR) too. It's nice to be able to check out the different $1 store chains. The merchandise varies. My dad (age 84) is the one who first told me about them. We didn't have them when I lived in CA.

I like to pick up snack foods there - they can be very cheap.

I think we need a new thread, "Things you won't (or shouldn't) buy in a dollar store"

-sunblock
-??

Okay, maybe that would be a short thread! :)

I can't believe I did that!

I just went and stocked up on a bunch of stuff...went down what I felt like was EVERY aisle and I FORGOT the over-the-door shoe organizer!

How I missed it I will never know! :sad2:

Does anyone remember where (vacinity) they keep these @ Dollar Trees?

Thanks guys,

Lovebond and Octoberbeauty, I'm an Arkansas gal too!
You can get pretty good sunscreen at Dollar Tree down here. They had some of the Coppertone colored foam for kids. They also have some really good after sun lotion.

I see your sig says next trip in June (when)?

We're staying @ the POP on June 18th-26th.

If I remember correctly, they are in the area with socks, hangers, shower caps, and that kind of stuff. I think maybe across the aisle from the shower puffs (or whatever those things are called) - at least that is where our Dollar Tree has them.

Yardbird, be careful of the Disney night lights. My DMIL gave my DS a Mikey one just like the ones at $Tree, and it plugs in upside down. I guess because of the larger prong on one side of the plug. I don't know where she bought it, but it looks just like the ones at $Tree.

I went to Deals, the dollar store in Findlay, OH. They had a lot, but not what I was looking for. They had a few Disney things like Nemo gift bags and Atlantis balloons...but they had NOTHING I wanted. Oh well...tomorrow, I'm hittin' the dollar store!!! Viva cheapskates and Dollar Establishments!!!

I am also on Long Island and not sure where to find one. Is Family Dollar part of the same chain? I have never been but it sounds like Dollar Tree has great stuff, better than the generic dollar stores I have been to around here. :confused3

I read this post and got many of the things listed as well as some other things...

They have older style picture albums that have the plastic the peels back. They make great sticker books (those are what I used as a kid). You peel the plastic back and put your stickers on the sticky area (keeps the stickers from permamently sticking too) and then put the plastic over them. I'm sure those of you in my generation remember doing this.

Soccer Ball window shades that are like window clings rather than the roll up/suction cup kinds. We've never had much luck with those so these were pretty cool. They were brand name (Munchkin) too.

They had the giant swirly lollipops with Mickey Mouse on them that they sell in the parks for a lot more than a dollar!

Those old fashioned "Magna-Doodles" where you write on the plastic and when you lift the plastic the writing disappears...I got a My Little Pony and Sesame Street.

I think everything else I got has already been mentioned but I got a ton of great summer stuff too. BIL is coming home from Iraq and will be visiting around 4th of July time so we are having a big party and they had a ton of great Americana items. American flag tiki candles, ceramic planters, flags, plates, cups etc. I also got a bunch of hibiscus/tropical looking stuff for the summer as well.

I made out like a bandit today.

area and I went to the other 'cuz DH was going over to BedBath&Beyond and I found a shower organizer...exactly what I wanted in the over-the-door shoe organizer...clear, 12 pockets, different-sizes for all kinds of razors, toothpastes, cleansers, make-up (mine :) )

But now, must go bk, thought DM had one and she doesn't and would LOVE to have one. BTW, got some suction cups (3pk) bigger ones and tried them out @ hm, they work fabulous. Why didn't I think of that one on my own...oh well, that's what I have you guys for, right?

Thanks for the great ideas and keep 'em comin!

Here is the website for locating dollar trees .........[http://www.dollartree.com/site/fr_locator.cfm[/URL]
They do not have on line buying :confused3
I hope the link works.. if not just go to dollartree.com
and I am sure if you google you may find other dollar stores.
Hope this helps.

I live in North/Central NJ, and couldn't find one either. But they just opened one a few weeks ago in the WalMart shopping center on Rte. 1 in Linden, right by Linden airport. I guess it would be good for Staten Islanders, but not Long Islanders though...

That is the most fabulous idea I have heard in a long time!! All that junk drives me nuts and with three kids I have plenty. With an entry area that seems to shrink every winter, you can bet next year I will be doing this!!
Off topic, I know. But I use the shoe organizers (the kind with the pockets) for: band aids; small tubes of misc creams, ointments, etc.; hair brushes; ponty tail holders & berrets; pencils, pens, etc; chapstick. All those odd things that end up in drawers all over the house - the kids can get to the stuff on the bottom and I put stuff I don't want them to reach on top (lighters for the bbg grill). Every few months I sort through and clean it out.
I use the cubby organizer for scarves, mittens, etc - and in the summer switch it over to swimsuits, sunglasses, etc.

We go to a $$ store down in Kissimee and they also have Disney type gift bags - then my DSs would go through and pick stuff out for their friends back home.
We've also always had bad luck with their glo sticks. I like buying their little fans - especially since the kids seem to like destroying or losing them so quickly.
I've found some really "interesting" food items at the $$ stores - just have to buy them and check it out. :)

Tripplanner
I'm from east end of Long Island I've found two family dollars, one in Patchoge village and another on Sunrise highway at the Sunvet Mall I think thats still Patchogue or Sayville.

Haven't seen a dollar tree.

I'm not as far east as you but they just opened up one in I think what is considered Commack on the corner of Larkfield Rd. and Jericho Turnpike in the TJ Maxx shopping center across from the Huntington Square Mall. It's brand new and I havent checked it out yet. Let me know what you are looking for (PM me) and I can let you know if they have the stuff before you make a trek out here. HTH

My grandma used to take us to the Smokey Mts ever year as kids and she'd spray the toilets and SHEETS  WITH LYSOL!!! So at my wedding in Eureeka Springs, AK we stopped by her hotel and she was busy CLEANING THE BATHROOM!!! :rotfl2: I love her to death and I obviously do not have her genes
btw this was the same grandma that introduced me to the Mickey Ice Cream bars.... :mickeybar
so she is not all that LOONEY
