Things that they took from you at the airport?

I am nervous...i wear bare minerals and it is powder make up can they take that? and lipstick is that considered bad??

Bare Minerals come in powder form. They are not liquids or gels, so you can carry on as many as will fit in your bag. Solid lipstick can be a hit or miss. It's not liquid, it's not gel, but I'd stick it in the baggie anyhooo.

YMMV

Educating yourself is key here. Powdered makeup and granola bars are perfectly permissable when flying within the US. I realize that others will say that I am ignorant since I fly weekly and 'don't understand', but many of my family members fly once a year and they are aware of the regulations.

Every airline website has something on the first page. Every time I call United it is on the recording. The airports have information posted in a variety of locations.

Read up on the rules at www.tsa.gov, www.catsa.ca, or www.baa.com. They will clearly list what is permissable, and what is not permissable. I would trust those websites more than a Disney related website - I even go so far as to say don't trust my word, or the word of any other frequent flyer. TSA won't care if NotUrsula or Bavaria or CarolA said that your xyz was ok, if it truly isn't ok.

The TSA website even has videos of what to expect at the screening checkpoint, as well as information for travellers with special needs, or families with children.

Then take a deep breath, and relax. Every week I see people fighting agents because they want to bring their bottle of water through, or they don't want to remove the kids from the stroller, or they don't want to fold the stroller. Make it easier on yourself and don't get worked up about the process - it truly is painless, and if you DO encounter the occassional rogue agent or misinformed agent, calmly ask for a supervisor. Clearing security is only 2-3 minutes of your trip, and can be a simple process if you educate yourself beforehand.

I hope that I haven't offended anyone, but this seems to be the 2nd most asked about topic on the Transportation Boards (behind Ding fares!) :)

What about prescription drugs Do they go in a quart bag too??
Can you bring tylenol ....?
Thanks
have a magical nite

Several people have mentioned how they were forced to dump something that would have been permitted if it were in a bag. Think about this - you have one item, what purpose does the plastic bag serve? Is it a magical property of the plastic?:confused3
The whole rationale, if there is one, for the bag is to LIMIT how much liguid/gel you have. It's just plain stupid to enforce the rule for one item!

What? Didn't you get the memo? Harry Potter whipped over on his broom and put a "magic" spell on QUART baggies. (Since it's a long flight on a broom and he had to get back to saving the world from Voldemort he didn't have time to put a spell on sandwich or snack size baggies):wizard: SO that baggie does 'protect' you.

(HEY, my theory makes as much sense as ANYTHING the TSA has said!)

By the way, today in Atlanta I saw a tub of stuff the TSA agents were pawing through (probably deciding what to take home) Hairspray, water bottles, shaving creme, toothpaste etc. Of course ALL those "dangerous" items were just piled up at the security checkpoint because we ALL know the terrorists would never DARE blow the TSA up. :rotfl2:

ok so just to be clear they are looking at the carry on things you can put whatever you want inside the baggage area to be put into the bottom of the plane?

For US travelers, there are actually 5 Federal agencies whose restrictions must be taken into account when deciding what one can and cannot pack when travelling by air. Some rules apply to carry-on baggage only, some rules apply to checked ("belly of the plane") baggage in addition to carry on baggage, and some apply to both types but only on flights that enter and leave US territory.

I'll break it down for you with links to the official lists:

If you are flying into the US from another country: for ALL baggage, regardless of where it is stowed, you must obey the limits set by the US Food and Drug Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the US Customs Service: (http://www.customs.ustreas.gov/xp/cgov/travel/clearing_goods/agri_prod_inus.xml). These rules are either meant to protect the US food supply by preventing the importation of agricultural diseases and pests, or to foil smugglers who are attempting to avoid paying US import taxes.

in addition:

If you are flying domestically within the US *or* flying internationally out of the US to another country, you need to obey the restrictions on substances and items in carry-on baggage that are set by the US Transportation Security Administration: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/index.shtm These rules are meant to foil persons who wish to deliberately carry weapons or improvised explosives aboard commercial aircraft in order to do harm.

and:

For checked baggage ("belly of the plane") on ALL flights that fly through US airspace, you ALSO need to obey FAA regulations regarding the carriage of substances that could cause accidental (or deliberate) damage to the aircraft or danger to passengers. This list is here: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#9 (You need to scroll down to the heading that says Explosive & Flammable Materials, Disabling Chemicals & Other Dangerous Items.)

Included in that last category are such items as matches, cigarette lighters, nail polish and/or remover, flammable paints, oxygen tanks, and aerosol cleaning products such as Lysol spray or aerosol spray starch. They are all flammable and could become incendiaries if a fire were to start in the cargo hold.

Sorry, I'm on distribution list B and we never get the really good memos. Actually, your theory makes more sense than Chertoff's *****s mystical theories.:cool1:
Whenever there is an open tub, I take the opportunity to dump my leftover beverage on the contents. Once had a TSAer chastise me . . . it was worth the "rubdown" to tell her it would make sure the drum contents didn't go home with anyone. :woohoo:

Just to be safe, why don't you put it in a quart size baggie? No big deal as those items are small enough to fit in there.

If you DARE to put non liquids in the baggie you MAY get the TSA jerk who wants to make an EXAMPLE out of you. He/She will proceed to YELL at you about what goes in the baggie......

(Of course my hand lotion has made it through the last four flights in my purse not in the plastic baggie. Sure they can "See" liquids:rotfl2: It's not really intentional I just never think about it until the purse is ON the belt!)

And what ever you do don't forget and leave that lip gloss in your purse:scared1: I've given up two expensive Aveada lip glosses now. And no they wouldn't let me remove that offensive item from my purse and place it into my quart size bag. They just took it away. What did Plato say,"Ultimate power corrupts".:rolleyes1

Wait a second, I have 2 very expensive lip glosses from MAC. Should I just put it in our checked luggage?? What about the carry on? Do they open and inspect it? Sorry, I haven't flown in a while.

Are you kidding me? That would be a nightmare. I would probably retort back that I always place my makeup in baggies so I don't ruin the insides of my purse just in case. So THERE!

Put it in your carryon!! Unless you absolutely have to have lip gloss touchups during flight...

and it has probably been asked but what about dvd players, playstation, cd players and gameboy games are they allowed. Just want every one to be clear

They took away a Cat5 Cable Crimper from me. There is nothing dangerous about these devices at all. They took it because they could not identify it.

You had the guy I had... He wanted to take away my numeric keypad for my laptop. That one went on FOREVER! He wanted it to "do something" It won't do ANYTHING unless it's connected to a laptop which of course he would not ALLOW me to touch. IDIOT kept saying "I never saw one of the these before" So after calling over his supervisor I was FINALLY allowed to take the thing with me. Walked in the FIRST giftshop past security and what do they sell? Yes, those keypads. I nearly bought one to SHOW the IDIOTS!

Yea. Some of these people that are heading up our Safety and Security are not the sharpest crayons in the box.
