:cool1: Just curious have you had things taken from your luggage, carry-on at the airport, if so what was it..:scared1:

Most of what you see being taken away now are liquids; bottled water, etc. Back right after 9/11, they made me break the nail file off of my nail clippers and took DW's tweezers away. Both of those items would be OK now, however. They did let some kid on the same flight carrying a full-size skateboard, which would be much more dangerous than a nail file or tweezers, IMO. The TSA's brilliance has been on display since the very beginning.

October 2006: Delicious Disney Peanut Butter Fudge at MCO :(

Back in January, we were returning to Providence from Tampa. My ex-dh's dd was flying home with us since he was staying on in Florida. Evidently she didn't realize what she could, and couldn't, have in her carryon bag. As I waited for her and my dd to go through security, I saw there was some kind of commotion with them. Ex-dh's dd had a full sized bottle of pricey hair conditioner in her bag...about 12 ozs!!! SHe was more than a little miffed that she had to leave it behind!!! As well as a little embarrassed.

The saddest thing I saw was at MDW on the Sunday after the liquids scare in August. A bride had to dump the top of her wedding cake she was trying to fly home with. She was in tears. They did allow her to take the cake topper after she washed it off...but the cake ended up in the trash can.

In about 1996, I had to drop a keychain thing of pepper spray in the "safe" bin... I honestly had forgotten I had it until I came up to security.

:confused3 I was in college, a bf had bought it for me after a bunch of security incidents at my college, and I had never used it. Just got used to having it on my key chain. Definitely didn't miss it after it went in the bin.

So they are really being strict about what you are taking and the sizes still?

Yes, they are. It's the quart size zip-loc clear baggie, with 3 oz sizes put inside it, and not crammed in. They should fit comfortably. Each passenger gets to have one baggie with them.

And what ever you do don't forget and leave that lip gloss in your purse:scared1: I've given up two expensive Aveada lip glosses now. And no they wouldn't let me remove that offensive item from my purse and place it into my quart size bag. They just took it away. What did Plato say,"Ultimate power corrupts".:rolleyes1

Always ALWAYS always politely ask to speak with a supervisor. Fudge, wedding cake, peanut butter are neither liquids nor gels. Do not allow the TSA agent to take the item from you without going up the chain of command.

I wear a security badge that allows me to bypass security lines and utilize direct access doors into the sterile area. Some days I fly, some days I don't. When I do fly, I make sure to pass through security like everyone else. I have had a tube of lip gloss outside of the quartsize baggie by accident and apologized before placing it in the baggie. I try my best to make certain I have no loose gloss (a highly technical security term) but on the off chance I do, I will generally place my quart size baggie on top of my purse so the x-ray attendant might not necessarily notice what is and isn't inside the baggie. Just a hint! :)

During our last trip my friend (not thinking) packed a snowglobe in a carry on to hopefully keep it from breaking. She wasn't allowed to take it on of course. However, the same friend had a cup of milk for her son (12 oz) in the side pocket of the same bag and they didn't even notice it. Go figure.

Oh that is just cruel- I had a sample size of eye cream in my makeup bag and the TSA guy just dropped it into my quart bag- I

the best advice is to educate yourself as to what is approved. Go to www.tsa.gov or www.catsa.ca or www.baa.com or whatever governing body applies for your country of origin. Read the rules.

They are relatively straightforward, yet daily we see questions here that are covered on those websites.

As ExPirateShopGirl says, if you do have an issue about an approved item being denied, politely ask for a supervisor.

I've flown over 100,000 miles since the liquid ban came into place, to all sorts of countries, and have had one item confiscated - a fruit bar which was most likely over a year old, and which had hidden itself into the bottom of my laptop case. And that was removed for being fruit, not liquid/gel.

Hmmm.....You all have me scared. Can I not take a box of granola bars? I was going to pack some of those small bags of goldfish and a box or two of granola bars. I didn't know there was any sort of ban on food, except perhaps fruit into California.

Food is OK now. The wedding cake top happened the SUNDAY at MDW right after the scare in London in August. We just happened to be flying back from Chicago to Detroit and witnessed that incident. Things have changed since then.

as I stated above, I fly internationally. There are regulations concerning the importation of food products when flying internationally.

go to www.tsa.gov to see what the regulations are for American travellers flying within America - food is not listed

They took my shampoo in Atlanta.
My lighter in Cleveland.
My hairspray in Ft. Myers

But they ALL LET me board with pocket knife and 2 pairs of tweezers.
I forgot the pocket knife was in a pocket in my purse. I knew I had the
tweezers and hoped they would get through security.

That stinks for you. I have never had anything confiscated but my mom did. She forgot she had a small tube of hand lotion in her purse. However, the security person asked her if she had a quart size baggie to put it in, which Mom did not, so they threw it away. At least she was given the opportunity.

I had a tiny pair of scissors (it was in my little travel sewing kit) taken from me at MCO, a few years ago. I flew with them about five times, after 9/11, but I guess I got a really strict TSA agent that day.

This past trip, in November, I forgot I had a tube of Blistex in my pants pocket. I didn't tell anyone and went through. Coming home, I forgot it was in my small backpack, along with my small bottle of Purell. The TSA agent was super nice and told us if we didn't have a baggie to put them in, where to purchase one. My DH had a couple snack size baggies in his pocket. I was allowed to use one of them.

TSA now allows scissors with blades 3 inches or less; CATSA does NOT allow any form of scissor
