Things I just do not understand..

Why everyone else in my house can go to the bathroom in peace, yet as soon as I step foot in there and close the door, it's either, "mom???" or "*insert my name*" from my husband.

A corollary to this - why my kids will leave the very room DH is standing and walk all the way to me in my bedroom to ask me to get them a drink, fix their game, help with their pants, etc., etc.

People who comment about our vacations with obnoxious comments about how it must be nice to be able to afford to go to WDW etc so often, then post their 5 expensive handbags, new shoes, electronics etc on FB...

People, I am a tight-wad & shop no-name and Value Village so that we can afford nice vacations o_O

Ugh, I have a family member like this and it is irritating. We live frugally and spend our "extra" money on vacation, just because she chooses not to do the same is not my problem.

We actually get the opposite. We live comfortably but carefully and work hard to live within our means, pay off educational debt and save. I get flack from certain family members about not spending enough! Drives me bonkers.

I don't understand why people get so worked up over the small things like someone having 15 items in the 12 item only checkout.

It means people coming from your left who are already in the roundabout have right of way. And you need to yield to them.

I wish more drivers would pay attention to this. Despite posted yield signs at the entrance to traffic circles, some drivers on the primary road leading into them think THEY have the right of way.

I've been almost t-boned more times than I can count. I can typically tell when someone doesn't plan on stopping and barrels right through. Thank god I have good brakes...and a horn. ;)

Things I don't understand.

1) Why people in my area can't figure out the new round about that was just added in my area. Yes I know some on here get confused by them however I have lived in this area almost 30 years. My father has lived here almost 60 and there have been round abouts in the area (and much larger more confusing ones) for years. This new one is a very simple one lane one to stop a problem with people from one direction blowing through the intersection and hitting people (the round about is now making them turn so people should naturally slow down) however since it was added people can't seem to figure out how to enter and seem afraid of it, multiple large trucks have tried to speed through it and ended up going off the road (into a large ditch since they were still doing construction on the side) etc. this isn't a high tourist area so I don't all the people that are having issues are not from the area either.

2) People that make huge messes in the bathroom at work or the microwave at work without cleaning them up. This building is not open to the public so they are all employees or guests that work in similar offices of other companies and got approval to visit to be here. There are no children here except like twice a year when there are special family or take your kid to work days. There is no reason anyone that is in these locations should not understand and be capabile of cleaning up after themselves.

3) This one isn't as annoying as funny. When I was in college the best way to get someoen to come to your meeting/event was to offer free off campus food. We were all broke college students that were sick of the on campus food and couldn't generally afford more/better food. I don't understand why now that still works. If a meetings is called and if has free pizza twice as many people will show up for the free pizza and sit through the meeting as without. My work pays very well and everyone in this building can certaintly afford to buy food.

Okay. But this is what happens to me. There are two lanes in the roundabout. I want to go "straight" so will go off at the second exit. There is nobody in the outside lane, so I go into that. But there is a car in the inside lane that also wants to get off at the same exit I am trying to get off at. Before that exit, he moves into my lane, causing me to pull up quickly so I don't hit him and causing the car behind me to pull up quickly and honk. I can't really see his turn/lane-change signal because he is barely in front of me and to be honest I am focused on the car on my right which I am afraid is going to jump into the roundabout in front of me (because people don't really know what to do when they get to them). I just get confused.
Pro-tip: Don't imagine that you absolutely HAVE TO take the exit you want immediately. Go around again if it's not easy (or safe) to get out. It only adds a couple of extra seconds and you'll get a clear opportunity without feeling like you're in a death-match. :drive:

:confused3 I don't understand how so many DIS'ers apparently have people outside their immediate household who are familiar with their finances. I couldn't tell you anything specific about my family and close friends' incomes or spending habits, nor do I imagine they have any knowledge about mine - beyond what I've disclosed.

I don't get why we had a double round added to our traffic pattern. Accidents have greatly increased, and DH and I actually saw someone go the WRONG WAY around the second round while we were waiting to enter. The traffic "brainy people" keep saying the accidents will go down as folks understand the pattern. Hello? The rounds are directly off the interstate. If you're not from here you don't expect them, and they aren't your typical traffic circles.

In my case they don't really they just think they do. Well that and no basics that I couldn't hide without them not knowing where I'm employed.

My DH works at Target. I work for an engineering company.

The two sentences above are probably enough for most of you to already know I make more then my husband does. He has coworkers that are a a couple that both work at Target that comment on how he shouldn't talk about a vacation he takes as some people can't afford them (note he wasn't bragging another coworker that was a friend of his asked, he answered in the break room while annoying coworker happened to be there).

The thing is they assume its just because I got lucky and have a higher paying job. They don't remember that it wasn't just luck or even just our income. The main reaon we can afford so much more then them is we don't have three kids like them.

OK - then I'll go with "I don't understand why anybody would feel it's appropriate to express their jealousy, especially to the people they're jealous of." Doesn't anybody have any shame anymore?

LOL, all I can think about, reading the posts about roundabouts, is Chevy Chase in the movie European Vacation:
"Look kids...Big Ben! Parliament!"

I guess I am really dumb this morning - there's TONS of things I don't understand. Please somebody feel free to educate me:

1. What exactly is a "rash-guard"? I googled and they look like long sleeved, turtle-necks for swimming. What kind of rash do these things guard against??

2. Asked and answered - thanks. ::yes::

I don't understand the Greek yogurt craze. I was perfectly happy with yogurt the way it was, now it's hard to find.

I don't understand why so many forget their children (and pets) in hot cars. I just don't remember this being a thing when I was a kid.

On that same note, I also don't remember dressers falling on children being a thing either? Were our dressers that much heavier or were we all outside climbing trees?

I'm just a simple person but I really don't understand people who don't like the pickles in a hamburger and pick them out instead.

I keep them on, but I'm right on the fence. It's not the taste, or texture - because I like both on a hamburger. The problem is the taste & texture inconsistency between bites of the hamburger because they can't be evenly applied.

... but I'm one of those people that must cover every square mm of one piece of bread with peanut butter and every square mm of the other with jelly. Same thickness and perfect coverage - so take my opinion FWIW.

When I worked in fast food and I made myself a custom burger, I dipped the cheese slices in the pickle juice before putting it on the burger. That gave me consistent flavor.

I don't understand how anybody could enjoy wet cheese...

I don't get how other drivers could have so much trouble with roundabouts (called rotaries here in New England), when Boston drivers, who zealously guard their reputation as among the worst in the country, have no problem. We even survived the switchover from yielding to entering traffic to the more standard and sensible yield to people already in the rotary. (Aside: the reason for the earlier confusion is that at least in some areas, "yield to the left" isn't the common idiom. We say yield to traffic in the rotary. )

I don't get avatars in Internet forums. They just steal screen space from the text of the message, which after all is why we're here.
