Things I just do not understand..

Speaking of that, how do you count the items anyway? Suppose you have 5 of one item that the cashier will scan once and just enter the quantity - does that count as one or five? I am never sure if I qualify for express because I don't know how many items are actually in my cart! Most people reach 12 pretty quickly if each item counts as one, even though several of them might be the same product.

An item is an item.

The primary point of the express line is to accommodate someone with only 1 or 2 items so they don't have to wait behind 2 people with a cart full of groceries. Then they said well 3 or 4 items won't stall the line too much .... then they had to draw an upper limit at some point to avoid abuse. That 10 item or 12 item limit is already the "high-end". There's no more "Well, I'm just a couple over 12".

One item is counted as one item. It doesn't matter if they are the same thing. If you have 5 cans of beans, that is 5 items.

In my grocery store it is phrased "approximately" 15 items. You can imagine how creative people get with "approximately"

A store near me has two Express lanes that request 35 or Fewer Items. 35!!!! That's usually more than I buy on a BIG shopping trip.

My son changed my iPad settings so that every time I typed the word "we" it was replaced with "me and 3 of my fellow pimps". Sadly, it took a while for me to figure that one out.
My friend did this to me at work; not so "racy" though. Every time I typed my name it would change it to "America the Beautiful".

I just by a six pack and a slim jim. . . I am welcome everywhere.

:confused3 I don't understand how so many DIS'ers apparently have people outside their immediate household who are familiar with their finances. I couldn't tell you anything specific about my family and close friends' incomes or spending habits, nor do I imagine they have any knowledge about mine - beyond what I've disclosed.

They're not familiar with it - they just offer unsolicited opinions. Many of our relatives are VERY comfortable and ask us to join them at one thing or another, or will ask us to come to some benefit or trunk show or whatever. Sometimes we just say it is out of our budget. Then the comments start, that we must be saving hand over fist, or that we should treat ourselves. Also, they have older kids so whatever we do they've been there before and will tell us what they think we should do -- unsolicited. So like when they found out we were taking our first family trip to WDW we got all sorts of advice on where to stay and what to eat and the fact that we HAD to use a certain line buster who was better than the official WDW line buster and really wasn't expensive, totally worth it (we didn't, btw). It's annoying.
