Speaking of that, how do you count the items anyway? Suppose you have 5 of one item that the cashier will scan once and just enter the quantity - does that count as one or five? I am never sure if I qualify for express because I don't know how many items are actually in my cart! Most people reach 12 pretty quickly if each item counts as one, even though several of them might be the same product.
An item is an item.
The primary point of the express line is to accommodate someone with only 1 or 2 items so they don't have to wait behind 2 people with a cart full of groceries. Then they said well 3 or 4 items won't stall the line too much .... then they had to draw an upper limit at some point to avoid abuse. That 10 item or 12 item limit is already the "high-end". There's no more "Well, I'm just a couple over 12".



I don't understand how so many DIS'ers apparently have people outside their immediate household who are familiar with their finances. I couldn't tell you anything specific about my family and close friends' incomes or spending habits, nor do I imagine they have any knowledge about mine - beyond what I've disclosed.
