Thick hair..

Mine is very thick straight hair. It is extremely heavy as well, so it does not hold a style, no matter how much hairspray, gel or whatever I put in it. Needless to say it is ponytales for me. I used to keep it all one length to my butt, but the headaches got way to bad. Now, it is usually right under my shoulders, layered and thinned till you can't thin no more. Everytime I have it cut, they have to sweep up what looks like 7 people had cuts.

I've got very thick very curly hair. I keep it either really long or really short. no middle. its just too much of a hassle. I also dye it a lot, so I use a lot of a moisturizing conditioner.

I have straight thick hair as well. I usually wear it up in a pony tail or half pony tail every day. It is just a little below my shoulders. The summers are terrible if it is humid outside my hair falls right away if I try and style it (regardless of how much product is in it). I'm not a huge fan of using hairsprays, gels, and other product in my hair becasue it gets so gross looking after applying it all...plus they never work.

I let me hair dresser put some longer layers in it and I'm sorry now that I let her do it. When I wear my hair down it looks just terrible because I don't bother to waste my time trying to dry it out and flip it only to have it fall the second I walk outside. Once my hair is a little longer I'm going to have her go back to cutting it all the same length.

I have found that keeping it shorter makes it much more manageable and it doesn't take ages to let it dry like it does if it is longer. I have found that the goody brand stay put pony tail holders work really well for thick hair. They don't tend to stretch out like so many other binders do after awhile.

It's good to know I'm not the only one out there with hair like this..lol. But I'm gonna try some of your ideas..I guess you just live and you learn, see what I like best. I have done the layer thing before, and unless I perfectly blow dry and straighten it, my hair just flips out and goes in every which direction.. :confused3. Guess I should just feel lucky that I even hair to complain about, huh? lol.

I have thick hair that's about 4-5 inches past my shoulders. I have long layers and my stylist also thins it out with a razor. If I let my hair get long without the layers, I just look like a big triangle head.

Very thick, coarse hair here too...

It's so hard to find a stylist who has a clue how to cut this type of hair.

I just recently got my hair cut much shorter than it has been in years...just above my shoulders in what the stylist called a "layered flip". I like it and I easily save 20 minutes off my blow dry time.

With thick hair, you really need layers (if you don't have them, that's when you get the poof and "triangle head"). Personally, I have found very few stylists who really know how to thin hair properly so I no longer allow anyone to do that.

For the frizz, Redkens Glass is FABULOUS! There are some cheaper versions (Garnier's Fructis line has one) but not all of them are as good. After blow drying my hair, I use some of this and it keeps the frizz to a minimum! Best stuff I've ever found (especially since I hate having lots of "product" in my hair).

Mine is super thick, too.

I always ask for my hairdresser to thin it out whichever way makes the hairstyle look best. Sometimes, I know what I want and sometimes I don't. That's when I tell him to do what he does best. I change my mind on how I want my hair often, so I might have several styles in a single year.

I think of the the most important things with thick, wavy hair is that you do have it cut and styled regularly. Styling is key. If you tell them to cut it, they are going to do just that. Cut it and leave it as is. If you have a style in mind or ask them to style it so that it flatters your facial shape and age, they will usually think it out while doing so. Depdning on how my hair is cut, they will use a razor or jagged scissors, for example, to get thin it out and get some texture.

I share you frustration!! I have horribly thick hair. I keep mine just above the shoulders and layered. I also have mine thinned out with either a razor or the jagged textury scissors. And as several others said I do NOT wash my hair every day. I wash it every other day or sometimes every third day.
