~~ They're leaving the nest, sew it's time for a trip - or two - or three...~~ D~'s bag ~9/22 ~~

I have to remember just how far I have come in such a short time - and not to compare myself to people who have probably been running for years.

THIS!!! It's so hard not to compare ourselves but we have to try. We all have our own stories and remember that we are in the very beginning of our book. Those faster runners are much further along in their stories. I think I read that somewhere but it must have resonated with me since I remembered it. :)

P.S. I think it's weird there were only 30 runners.

I can't wait to see what you make for yourself! Have a great day!

Thanks! Me too! LOL

I don't know what our chances will be for staying at Bay Lake during Thanksgiving week. I plan to have myself on the wait list as soon as possible, so right at the 7 month mark I'll be calling. We've had good luck in the past getting our waitlist requests but we will see.

Yes it was fun to go back and finish out a trip report...even thought it's been almost two years since the trip. I think we are all just so excited about this upcoming cruise we can hardly stand it any longer. As much as we love our Disney trips, we have just been on far fewer Disney cruises so it's a little more exciting. It's funny because the kids are really all about the thrill rides these days, but the cruise and the chance to play trivia games and do other activities is just as exciting for them.

Can't wait to hear about what you make for your upcoming trip. We all know it will be FABULOUS! :)

It would be awesome to stay there though - I hope you are able to.

It's always fun to go back and relive it - sometimes I go back and reread my old TRs, it's fun to see the girls so little - I am so thankful I had that time with them - many great memories! :lovestruc

You will have a great time on your next cruise!

I am excited about it for sure! Trust me, it's nothing extravagant, but it's new - so I am happy about that. ::yes::

i wanna know what you make!!!

Hehehe... You'll find out soon.

I'm curious about what you made for yourself, too. It sounds like you had a good day yesterday.
Look at it this way, you finished the race. I'm sure your time will get better in time.
Yesterday, my daughter and I went down to Stan Hywet hall and gardens to see Bloom. It was a display of glass flower sculptures in the gardens. We had fun walking around and taking pictures. It was really warm there. We also toured the house which is really nice.
Today I'm working.
Have a good day.
Liz

Yes - I am working on it.

Yes - I hope my times get better, I don't expect much through the winter, but hopefully next spring, I can really work on my pace a bit more.

That sounds wonderful! And beautiful!

I hope you have a great day Liz! It was good to see you!

Hey D! I just wanted to congratulate you on your races, I give you so much credit, as a non-runner. I also dream of one day running a race in Disney. So you are under 60 days!!! Thats so exciting! Is your friend taking care of all the FPs, or are you going to have a say in them as well?

Thank you... I just really thought this would never be a place I would be in life - so it's a great feeling!

I know!!!! I am beyond thrilled! Yes - Suzi is taking care of all the FPs - I did have a say, but quite honestly - we will have Bradey with us - and I am happy to go and do whatever he wants to do....If there's something I want to do - I am happy to break off and go too. It's been a relief to have Suzi planning this whole trip, since I have Alli's right behind it in January. ::yes::

Congratulations on improving your time in the race over the weekend -- you shaved a lot of time off! Yea!! Again -- so inspirational!

Thank you! I was so excited about that!

Congrats on running your second 5K! And on the time improvement. That is awesome! I look forward to the day my girls can stay home alone. They always want to. Em is 18 and I trust her but we just haven't tried it yet.
Can't wait to see your next sewing project.

Thanks!!! I was happy about such a big time improvement, I wasn't expecting it, esp after my crappy runs during the week... So it was pretty cool.

We have had to leave them home alone a couple of times... It's not something I enjoy doing... but Matt is here right now and he's an adult - so I don't worry as much. And we have really good (nosy) neighbors... No one gets in our out of our neighborhood without someone knowing it. ::yes::

I am excited to show it!

Stopping by to say:

RUN AWAY - Or keep running, I suppose. Good for you to do this. I just balk at the thought of running - the outside in me thinks running is too trendy and I was a sprinter, not a long runner, when I ran. The idea of running more than just down the hall exhausts me.

T-15 hours and counting until we're on the road back to FL! Wednesday = Caribbean Beach and a long overdue break from the world.

Hehehe... Thanks! I am not sure how much a long distance runner I want to be? I do think my ultimate goal right now is a half marathon... I don't really have much of a desire to do a full marathon. We'll see? Maybe I'll feel differently after I do my half?

Eeeep!!!! Soooo, sooooo, sooooo excited for you!!!! Have an amazing trip!

Hi Remember me??? Sorry....I have no excuse...just haven't DISed lately.

But I'm all caught up again. I'm exhausted... Playing nurse is definitely not for me. But hubby is on the mend :crutches:
So....AK outfit....I like the classic animal print Mickey head (like my shirt in my profile pic...I made it myself)
But I love the Lion King idea too. It's one of my favorite movies, so an outfit would be fun!

So proud of you with all your races. You are doing awesome!

Hi there... Nope, don't remember you at all. ::yes:: Hehehe....

I know... I didn't want to mention anything here, as I wasn't sure if you wanted this info shared? If you'd like me to talk about it - I would be happy to do so. You are probably the best nurse ever - and I'd be happy to have you... So Bill is very lucky. How is he doing?

I do like that shirt... I am just stumped... I will probably end up doing a yeti bag??? ? I am just not sure yet? And I am running out of time.

Thank you!

Congrats on your first AND second 5k!!! You really are an inspiration. If you are looking for free yoga videos, check out you tube. There is so much on there. Also HASfit has some great free work outs.

Thanks!!!! Oooh - excellent idea!!! I love youtube! I will look there! Thanks so much for the idea!

Even with all the mishaps, we all had a good time. Jim and Karen are talking about coming back in a couple of years and bringing their grandgirls, so it must not have been too hard on them!

Melissa's purse was found and returned to guest services with everything except the one credit card. Luckily it was not the one they were using for the trip - and it was cancelled immediately.

I have no idea what is going on with the sellers. They are in Great Britain, and sent an email to our agent that they were having the papers notarized the next day and sending the contract (along with 2 more they are selling) by Fed EX - that was 2 weeks ago though, so who knows what is going on? Our agent has been trying to contact them, although I don't know how successful they have been.

Oh, btw - my coworkers are a bunch of comedians - first my computer was programmed to play "it's a Small World" when I turned it on this morning, and they printed off the picture of Charlie and me in our costumes from the party and posted it on the bulletin board in the lunch room.

Go sew something fabulous! you deserve it.

Sorry your quote got messed up Tess.... Hopefully The Dis notifies you that I quoted your message?

I am glad that overall you had a good trip... despite all of the mishaps.

Hopefully the sellers get their act together - there is still hope that the transaction will go smoothly...

Hehehe... I love awesome co-workers! :woohoo:

Thanks!!! I am working on it! ::yes::

THIS!!! It's so hard not to compare ourselves but we have to try. We all have our own stories and remember that we are in the very beginning of our book. Those faster runners are much further along in their stories. I think I read that somewhere but it must have resonated with me since I remembered it.

P.S. I think it's weird there were only 30 runners.

You are so right! I have to constantly remind myself of this. Thank you!

Oh good - I was wondering if that was weird. For it being at the Mall of America like that - I really expected it to be a big race, and it definitely wasn't. Which is sad, since it was for such a great cause. My first race, in a small town, was much bigger. :scratchin

******************************************************************************************

I had a great day yesterday, but sadly - it was a Monday and I skipped my workout... Which is BAD! I just got caught up in my day and it didn't get done. :( Oh well... I guess having a few rest days in a row won't kill me. Back at it today. ::yes::

After V's appointment, I came home and went straight to work in my sewing room - working on something for myself. I made an awesome dent in it - but I didn't finish. I hope to soon... Maybe tonight, if I can get up there after dinner? Otherwise tomorrow for sure. I am excited about it and it's been so long since I've shared a sewing project here, I can't wait to do so. :thumbsup2

We had leftovers for dinner and hung out all night.

Today is a Target day... So, I will work out right away this morning and I'll also run tonight - not sure if it will be before dinner or after... I am hoping it's before - it just works out easier. :scratchin

I hope you all have a wonderful day!!! Prayers and good thoughts to all of you! :grouphug:

D~

Wow... It's odd that I don't have any replies to do this morning. You all must have had a busy Tuesday? LOL

I worked at Target all day... It was an OK day.

Then I came home and worked on my own bag for the trip in November... I am pretty happy with how it turned out! Ok... I didn't want a upb... Lots of work goes into those and I didn't want to spend a lot of time on a bag I was only planning to carry for one evening and who knows if i will ever make it to another mvmcp? So, I drafted another bag pattern... I wanted this to be very basic. Same approx size as the upb... I still wanted the front slip in pocket for my phone, but I don't really use my interior pockets that often, so I left those out. All in all, I think it will be a good bag to carry for one night... Not sure id enjoy carrying it for a real park day though, I don't feel like it's as durable as the UPB is... I just really wanted something festive that would showcase my hand appliques. :lovestruc I think I've accomplished that.

I am just so happy I finished this bag, so at least now I have something new to carry for the trip. ::yes:: I am still hoping to make myself a bag for Ak - I think I have a theme in mind, but I haven't 100% decided on it yet.

Then... I went for a run last night - I was expecting it to be an awful run after my 5k on Saturday - but it was a good run, and it felt really good to be out there. I feel like I've been eating really crappy lately, and I am starting to get down on myself for it. In all reality - I am not eating that bad, I just have high expectations of myself. I need to concentrate harder on this and be a little more dedicated than I am.

Allison's Disney trip

So.... I am starting to get really anxious about Allison's trip... I don't have airfare for this yet, and it doesn't seem to be coming down/moving at all. :( So, I did a broader search this morning and it looks like, if we leave 2 days later and come home 2 days later, I could fly almost within our budget amount. I don't know what to do, because if I do this - she misses 5 days of school - so really, then we could change our dates to any dates, because it makes no difference. She is a good student, and I am sure it would be OK - but I am just trying to minimize her school loss here. I am really struggling with what to do. Any insight? Should I just bite the bullet and pay the extra $100+ in airfare to fly on the dates we intended (she only misses 3 days of school now).... Or do I save the $100 and change our dates? In the grand scheme of things - $100 is not a lot of $$, but in this budget, it is huge. I'd love some help ironing this out.

UGH - and I just found out that this is finals week too! Grrr!!!!

Today... I will be lifting shortly. Then I have to run the girls to school - run to the mall for an exchange... Then run home to work. I hope to be back before lunch time.

I hope you all have a great day! Prayers and good thoughts go out to all of you! :grouphug:

LOVE the new bag...so cute! Great job!

Regarding Allison's Disney trip: I know it's $100, but the school thing just might be easier on her if she isn't missing as much of it. This is coming from a mom who pulls her kids out of school all the time for Disney trips! Mine are 10th, 7th and 6th grade this year and the 10th grader is NOT the best of students. Well let me put it this way, he has the potential to do very well, he's very smart not struggling, but he chooses many times NOT to do some of the work. When he applies himself and HAS to get things done, he does so quite easily. Anyway we planned our upcoming cruise the week that we did because they will ONLY miss 3.5 days of school instead of five and that's how I seem to justify it to myself. However I've planned trips before around the fact that they would only miss 3 days of school and then bad weather has made them change the schedule and they have missed more days. We've still gone on the trips. However if she is a good student and the school is willing to work with you, then I also see no problem moving the dates, but like you said you planned it for this week BECAUSE of it working better with school. How is Allison on missing more days?

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Hey D. What a beautiful bag!!! It's absolutely perfect!! Congrats on your 5k also!!

As far as Allison's trip goes I guess there are two ways of looking at it. First, it's finals week and five days is a lot to miss during finals week, however, perhaps she can arrange to take them before you leave. At my son's HS, they only schedule three exams per day. They are done by 1 pm. On the other hand, she's a good student, it's her last year and your time with her is precious. Maybe getting her opinion on the whole thing may help you make your decision. I'm no help what so ever! I know it will work out!!

Have a great day!!

Your park bag is adorable. Now I need to see the whole ensemble. ;)

Adding extra days just to avoid paying higher airfare would result in more overall expense, wouldn't it?

I LOVE your Donald Christmas bag!! You will have to make sure to go and meet with Donald during the party if you have time. Last year he met along with Scrooge McDuck and Daisy so the line was a bit long. I wanted to see the 7 Dwarfs first so I got in their line about 5:30 and was about 5th in line. They came out 15 minutes early so I was able to get in line for Donald/Scrooge/Daisy at just a little past 7 pm. I think I waited about 40 minutes but it was worth it to see Scrooge!

I wish you luck with the airfare for Allison's trip.

Regarding missing school...I think I would get Allison's opinion on that. My girls generally don't like to miss school because of makeup work and assignments and all of that...but our school district in Georgia also had an exemption policy for finals and so if they missed too many days of school they couldn't exempt their finals. So I would check with her and see how she feels about that. If it was me, I would probably just pay the extra to get the dates I wanted...if you add on extra days that also means more cost for lodging and food, right? So there's another hit to the budget.

I love your bag! It's so cute! You are so creative and have such cute ideas.

I do like the new bag a lot! Donald is perfection!

What is so different between this and the UPB?

I love the new bag. It will be perfect.

So, if you leave later, that will push Allison into missing part of finals week? If it were me, I probably would pay the highter airfare. Then, I would see if there were any clothes I could take to a consignment shop like Plato's Closet (juniors, fitness clothing, shoes). See if there are any books in the house to sell to used book stores (our store usually tends to buy Young Adult novels, childrens book (in sets) or the latest craze in diet/cookbooks). Figure out some ways to get that extra money to put in budget.

Ask Allison which she would prefer.

Hope you have another great day.

I absolutely LOVE the bag, its so cute and festive. The peppermints on the outside and the full inside are awesome. And donald looks great in his christmas gear! You bags always turn out so beautiful.:goodvibes

Regarding Allison's trip, if it wasn't finals week, I would suggest to not worry about missing school. By that time when I was a senior last year, I wasn't as stressed about school, since I had already gotten acceptances into colleges. Since it is her trip, maybe ask her opinion on the situation and see what she's comfortable with. Maybe she could take the exams right before she leaves, so she doesn't miss any and you can stay within your budget. I just suggest to do whatever choice is the best for everybody. Best of luck :lovestruc

Your bag for your Disney trip in November looks great :)

We came home on Monday. Our flight from New York was going to leave 9.55PM but it was delayed 30 minutes. So we didn't take off until 10.30PM The flight was 6 hours and 30 minutes. I tried to sleep on the plane but it was not easy. I think I got 2 hours of sleep on that plane. We landed 11.30AM local time in Oslo, Norway. We then had 3 hours until our flight to Tromsø. The fligt from Oslo to Tromsø is 1 hour and 55 minutes and a slept the whole trip.
When we came home I had to go to the grocery store to buy breakfast for the next day. All other shopping could wait until Tuesday. I managed to stay awake until 10.30PM I then went to bed and woke up at 9AM because I needed to go to the bathroom. I woke up with a terrible head ache. So I went back to bed as soon as I could. I then woke up again at 11.AM to take my medicine. I still had a head ache but it was better. So I figured that it would get even better if I slept some more. So I ended up getting out of bed at 1.30PM.

Today I had therapy riding at noon. So I had to get up at 10.30AM. I think the best would have been to sleep a little longer and then get back to my normal rhythm later this week. Tomorrow I have an appointment about my new car at 12.30PM. The rest of the week I have no appointments. I was surprised that I didn't have much of a head ache today when I got up. I expected to have a head ache today as well because when I came home from Florida 2 1\2 years ago I didn't get much sleep on the plan and I didn't sleep in the first day back home and I ended up having a terrible head ache for a whole week.
I'm so glad it went better with the Jet lag this time.

I just really wanted something festive that would showcase my hand appliques. :lovestruc I think I've accomplished that

Definitely! I think it's perfect for MVMCP! Donald is adorable and I also love the lining. :)

UGH - and I just found out that this is finals week too! Grrr!!!!

Finals week might be a great time for her to miss since there's no actual learning going on. It would just depend on teachers letting her take the tests before your trip.

I'm so glad you had a good run. :thumbsup2

Thanks! It was fun to make something for myself. :thumbsup2

I agree completely... Allison doesn't mind - this is her senior year, so it's basically an "easy" year for her - her entire schedule is electives, except for 3 classes. I'll explain a little more below - I am not sure I explained it correctly yesterday, and judging by a few responses, I need to clarify. LOL

Thank you - you too. :)

Hey D. What a beautiful bag!!! It's absolutely perfect!! Congrats on your 5k also!!

Thanks so much Niki!!!

I will elaborate below about Allison's trip... I am not sure I explained the situation correctly yesterday. But essentially, Allison is OK with whatever we do. LOL

Your park bag is adorable. Now I need to see the whole ensemble.

Adding extra days just to avoid paying higher airfare would result in more overall expense, wouldn't it?

Hahaha... I am getting there - I am still waiting for a few more pieces to arrive. ::yes::

Possibly - LOL - way to keep me to my budget Sue... In this case - it was more of switching our dates, rather than adding more. I'll try to explain better below - it's difficult when I am not actually giving out dates. LOL

Thanks!!! Oh I will try - believe me. Hopefully it's in our plans somewhere to do that. I"ll probably just be walking around in awe all night and distracted by every shiny light I see. :scratchin

Thanks - hopefully something happens soon, I am starting to get nervous - I usually always have airfare by now.

Regarding missing school...I think I would get Allison's opinion on that. My girls generally don't like to miss school because of makeup work and assignments and all of that...but our school district in Georgia also had an exemption policy for finals and so if they missed too many days of school they couldn't exempt their finals. I love your bag! It's so cute! You are so creative and have such cute ideas.

I'll explain a little bit better below... I think what I wrote yesterday was a bit confusing?

Thank you - I am generally happy with how it turned out.

I do like the new bag a lot! Donald is perfection!

What is so different between this and the UPB?

Thanks Mo....

Well - there is a huge difference. This one is just a hair smaller... The pockets on the outside are totally different... The UPB has a zippered outside pocket, plus a quilted slip in pocket right behind it... This bag has only the quilted slip in pocket. Resulting in a lighter (and IMO) a less durable bag. The strap attachment is also very different... The straps are attached to the back of the bag, rather than the sides. Then the interior with out the pockets. The end result - which you can compare for yourself - is a nice bag, don't get me wrong, but I think the difference in quality is huge, and I am not sure it could withstand the stress of being an actual park bag... I dunno about you - but my park bags are USED, and used to death - there are sometimes I wonder if they will survive more than one trip (and they have...) - but I tend to carry a lot of stuff, I bump into everything, it sits on the ground and hangs from my chair... I am just not sure this bag would stand up to that? I dunno? I guess I am going to find out. LOL

Figure out some ways to get that extra money to put in budget.

Ask Allison which she would prefer.

Hope you have another great day.

THanks Shannon!

Nope... I think I explained the situation wrong yesterday... It's our CURRENT trip that's during finals week. Sigh. I'll try to explain the situation better below. :thumbsup2

Allison doesn't care either way. LOL She just wants to go the FL in January. LOL

Thanks - you too!

I absolutely LOVE the bag, its so cute and festive. The peppermints on the outside and the full inside are awesome. And donald looks great in his christmas gear! You bags always turn out so beautiful.

Best of luck :lovestruc

Thanks!!! I am happy with how it turned out... Now to get the rest of my outfit together. ::yes::

I appreciate this... Allison is in about the same place... She is working on her college acceptance stuff - maybe not where I want to see her go - but that's another subject all together.

Hehehe... Trying to do what's best for everyone - it's just hard to figure that out. LOL

Thanks Lillian!

SO happy to hear that you made it home and your jet lag isn't as bad this time as it was last time. That's great to hear. I hope you are getting settled nicely and it feels good to be home. I can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip!

Annnd... You have lots of exciting things coming up with your new car and your new chair - it's bound to be an exciting time! :woohoo:

I love your new bag. It's really cute. I'd ask Allison what she prefers.
Liz

Thanks Liz!

Yes, we are trying to figure that out. Allison doesn't much care either way... I am going to try to explain the situation better below.

Love the new bag.

Thank you!

Definitely! I think it's perfect for MVMCP! Donald is adorable and I also love the lining.
Finals week might be a great time for her to miss since there's no actual learning going on. It would just depend on teachers lettinghetake the tests before your trip.

I'm so glad you had a good run.

Thanks! It was fun to finally make something for myself. ::yes::

I was kind of thinking that too... I'll try to explain better below though.

Thanks!!! Hoping for another good one this afternoon. ::yes::

Yesterday was a good day...

I lifted right away in the morning - it was good to have it out of the way, because I really wasn't feeling it at all. Because Monday was a little weird with V's appointment - I didn't get to work out, so my workout schedule is a little awkward this week. But it seems to be fine - so I am going with it. ::yes::

Then I ran to the mall to do an exchange... I picked BFF up on the way and dropped her off on the way home.

And I worked for the remainder of the day - accomplishing exactly what I needed to - and not a thing more. LOL

Today.... I will be here working all day, after I work out this morning, of course.

OK - trying for a better explanation of Allison's trip situation.

Currently, we are booked for 8 nights/9 days. We have an excellent sale room rate of $79/night. :woohoo: Allison will miss 3 days of school, which IS finals week. Airfare for our dates is pretty high right now - not horrible, just not what I'd like to pay.

I was thinking - if we moved our trip a few days on either side of our current dates, we'd still stay down in Disney for the same amount of time, but we'd get the cheaper airfare. But that would change Allison from missing 3 days to potentially 5 or more - still during finals week.

If she was potentially missing 5 school days - that means it wouldn't matter WHEN we went, because she would miss 5 days no matter what. So, I was considering moving her trip dates completely, but I pretty much nixed that idea - because we'd definitely LOSE our sale rates at the resort - and that would throw our budget totally off.

Sigh. Then we have the whole finals week issue.

I asked her to go to her counselor yesterday and ask her what we do in this situation. Her counselor sent her to the principal. I guess... because her class load is very easy this year - they will let her go during finals week. She cannot take her finals before we leave, she has to wait until after we get back. :( Which is frustrating - I know she will have issues having a good time, with finals hanging over her head. But, as far as I can tell - we don't have any other option.

I can see - however - this may be a HUGE issue next year with V's trip, considering she struggles in school. Thankfully her trip is not scheduled during finals week.

So, it looks like - at the moment... I am staying with our original dates and praying for a drop in airfare - even just a little would help out a lot. ::yes::

On a side note... The November trip is closing in on us quickly and I am beyond excited about this - it won't be long now and I'll begin packing!!! :woohoo: I already have most of my clothes set aside, I just need to examine Suzi's plans again, and decide which theme I am wearing to which parks on which days. :thumbsup2 I had a few accessories ship out this week - so once those get here, I can start assembling my outfits for pictures. ::yes::

I hope you all have a wonderful day - prayers and pixie dust to all! :grouphug:

That is a really good room rate. And for her to be at Disney for nine days and only miss three days of school is amazing. We had to buy airfare at a higher price than I like in order to bring our grandchildren to Disney last February. It was the only way to get them there, and that was what counted. :)

Make sure you get an outfit to match your resort. Since you only know that it is DVC then you will have to make nine outfits, but you can handle it, right? :upsidedow

:dogdance: :jumping1: So excited for you guys! :thumbsup2

That's a fabulous room rate! It's great that they'll let Allison take her finals after the trip....hopefully she won't worry about them while you're at Disney. And look at it this way -- she'll be nice and relaxed after a great Disney trip when she does take them! :-) I hope you're able to find cheaper airfare. I need to find airfare for my daughter for Thanksgiving...but I can't do that until we decide if we're going home for Thanksgiving or not.....

First of all the rate you got for the room is awesome, so I wouldn't want to give that up either. As for the finals, since she is a good student, and she is a senior, maybe that will help with the stress. She can always study at the airport and during both plane rides. I know I wouldn't want to be stressing out about tests when I am actually at Disney. And I know this is a bad example... like I said before... to tell you the honest truth...by that time during senior year, it's ok to slack off just a bit. I know from personal experience;) Especially if you applied to schools Early action. The first part of the year is the most important! I'm not saying that slacking is the best option..just maybe to not stress as much then if she was a junior! ::yes::

So, it looks like - at the moment... I am staying with our original dates and praying for a drop in airfare - even just a little would help out a lot. ::yes::

I'll be crossing my fingers for you that they go down!

I can't wait to see your outfits!! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes
