They're Back! RE: LoveBugs!

The whole love bug hype is ridiculous. I spent weeks prior to my trip agonizing over the potential of seeing these bugs at WDW.......all that stress for nothing. I saw a few sets here and there, but they just floated on by like a feather in the wind. I even left all my white clothing at home because I was told they like light colors. I did research about this bug online, I brought bug spray, and I feel like I wasted time and effort all for nothing. Now a bug to be scared about is the PALMETTO BUG. OMG........can anything even be worse?? We certainly don't have anything even remotely close to that one here in Wisconsin!

Sorry, but I disagree. You were lucky. It is all about timing. This year, they haven't been bad at all. I've seen more around my house and on the highways, but not many around WDW. However, a couple of years ago, they were horrible in the parks. I went to Epcot one day with some friends. They were literally crawling all over us. The weather conditions play a big factor in how many you will see.

That being said, they don't hurt anything (except car paint). They are just annoying. I hate trying to mow the grass because the come up in swarms. I always feel like I'm going to breath them in.

Glad they aren't bad for visitors this year.

I don't think it is ridiculous. They are quite annoying when out in large quantities. My husband is not afraid of bugs but absolutely hated these. We encountered them heavily on our trip in May/June 2007.

I have not seen a Palmetto bug and don't care to. Did you actually see them?

We were at Epcot today and I didn't see a single Love Bug.

Just thought I'd jump in and say that we saw 2 on our first trip to the world and 1 last year. We saw them in the queue for BTMR and one in the bathroom in Tomorrowland. The one in the bathroom my dd saw while she was going and screamed and almost ran out of the stall with her pants down to her ankles :rotfl2: She hates bugs and those roaches are huge!(I'm sorry you can dress them up any way you like and call them fancy names but they are still roaches)

:rotfl2: Thanks for the laugh this morning. I being a 31 yr old adult would probably have handled the situation exactly like your daughter. I'm terrified :scared1:

Yes, I saw a single Palmetto bug after stepping off the Disney bus onto the sidewalk at POP. I thought it was a child's rubber toy at first. Then a man said that it was a Palmetto bug. It was by far the most disgusting thing I have ever seen! If you are scared of a little love bug.........watch out for this one!!!

We just got back and I wanted to give ya'all a little update. We didn't notice the love bugs very much at all during this past week just a few here and there, except on our last day. On Saturday, their presence was a tad bit more noticable in the TTC area and many more in Toon Town. Once we left the Toon Town area, we didn't really notice them very much throughout the rest of the park.

Just back as well and I agree they were not noticeable. Only one day did we see a larger amount of them and that was friday at the entrance to MK, and even then they were not in mass, just more than we had seen all week. They are just an annoyance, my youngest dd was fascinated by them and spent some time hunting them out lol

Just got back late yesterday as well from our 5/13 - 5/20 trip. Took in all parks and wen to DTD, SSR, BV, AKL. We saw virtually NONE!

The most was yesterday at DHS during Lights, Motors, Action! There were about a dozen or so. :confused3

So when do they actually get worse?

I'm arriving on Friday, and was there last year at exactly this time and they were EVERYWHERE at the resort (Pop Century). It was disgusting. They were all over me while I was at the pool, landing in my hair, in my drink, etc. GROSS! At the parks, the only place I saw them was at the Dumbo ride, and they were swarming everyone.

I'm glad to hear they aren't such a problem right now. Unless of course, they are timing their arrival just for me! LOL :lmao:

I just got back and they really were not too bad, I saw more at the landing for the Ferry at the MK then any where else.
This year I went a week earlier than I had last year and it really seemed to make a difference. Last year they were everywhere.

Maybe they are.... :scared1:

Perhaps your timing was unlucky last year. We were in WDW last year May 13 to 24, and hardly saw any in the parks, maybe a few dozen in that entire time, and none at the Poly.

so does this mean they are about done with their "love fest" or just getting started??

Who knows if they are done or just getting started? It was pretty uneventful this May for love bugs.

ok - i guess time will tell.

we were there the first week of June last year and it was the first time we had ever seen them - and we have been going to WDW at the same time for years.

we will be arriving on the 9th of June this year. Like everyone said - harmless - just kinda icky.

We just returned yesterday and hardly noticed them at all. The most we saw was yesterday AM at the Indy Cars (maybe 20) but not at all a nuisance.

I have to agree we just got back from being there 8 days..saw 2 the whole trip by SAB :thumbsup2

Come on :)... you all LOVE love bugs :):lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

For a good time just run through a swarm on a bike with your mouth open :happytv: :scared1: :scared1:
