They won't fix my daughter's Iphone just yet!!

I think most cell phones are crap. Apple, Samsung etc. I had an Android from Cricket. I went to take it off the charger one morning and it was dead not quite 18 mos old. Took it to store and they said that there was an internal error and I lost everything. I was so mad. They wanted $200 for a new phone. I went home and got my daughter’s original phone and put a SIM card in it and it is still working. All cell companies work the same. Every 2 yrs you need a new phone.

People weren’t buying phones every two years because they were built badly. They were buying them that often because the technology was changing that fast. Now that it’s reached it’s peak people are holding onto their phones longer than ever. I know more people with 3, 4, 5 year old phones than those that have new ones.

I have to agree with you there. My issue with Apple is more about the way they operate and the fact that I live far from an Apple Store. We have had a number of problems with my girls' phones, but they're teenagers so I can't really compare their usage to what DH and I do with our Samsungs. We're old and predate that sort of technology, ha ha. But we have had multiple issues with Apple IDs, iCloud, and the girls' phones and other Apple devices getting crossed (4 daughters with Apple devices). And I HATE iTunes. But the phones themselves are superior in many ways to our S7/S8s. My s7 is probably about to get replaced because the battery is getting sluggish, I've used up most of my internal storage and I'm too lazy to figure out what to delete (I have most of my pictures on a memory card so it's files that's clogging the works). It's older and has been through multiple system updates, which I dislike because it always messes up my phone and changes the things I'm used to.

I’m the “iPhone guru” in my family and understand iCloud pretty well and sometimes still manage to screw things up sometimes. Apple tends to name things the same for two different functions but within different settings which adds to the confusion. I never have an issue setting up mine, DH’s or the younger kids but my oldest DD’s is always a long, drama filled process that takes days to figure out. I think part of the problem there is that she doesn’t want to give it up long enough for me to figure it out in one go. And iTunes makes me ragey. Each update is worse than the last and breaks the whole thing. I’m jealous of the Mac people who don’t have to deal with it anymore.

Most Best Buys now have an Apple specialist in the store. We had an appointment yesterday for a broken Iphone screen. We have insurance on it and they replaced the screen while we waited.

They are following policy on warranty. If you want replaced you have to pay. Don’t get mad at them for not doing it free when it’s still fine.

I think the 86% is garbage. Up until two weeks ago, I had an Iphone 8 that was 2 years old and it was showing 86%, but I was having to charge it about 3 times a day- sometimes 4 if I used it much. It would be at 100% when I left for work- and it would drop to 80% within an hour even if I didn't use it at all . No way the battery health was 86%. I think they make it where it still shows health above 80% even if it is way below that so they don't have to replace them.

I gave up on it and got an iphone 11 pro--- here we are 8 hours after I left for work and it is still at 90%. My old phone would be completely dead by now.

I think Apple does something to make your battery life seem worse for 1-2 months after a new iPhone version has been released. I have noticed this trend now for 3 cycles and sometime between November and December my battery life improves drastically (the % health number doesnt change). I believe they do this to get people that are on the bubble to just move up a generation.

In early October I would drop to 40% power by noon with very light usage BUT my phone also charged way faster than usual. I never let my phone auto off due to battery power, usually recharge at the 50% range. So maybe this low battery indicator wasnt actually my true battery power. This resolved itself in about a week. I had never seen this trend happen before.

And how do you suppose they do this? Are you suggesting Apple can control your phone without your knowledge? There was a throttling issue a couple years back. They were called on it, reversed the situation and started the battery upgrade program. Sometimes something is draining the battery like an app or extra use and sometimes you lose the battery lottery. Once your phone gets to a certain age the battery just isn’t going to hold up anymore. You do NOT need to replace your phone, You can have the battery replaced.

As far as Apple trying to push people to the next phone, again, not true. The current iOS goes back six generations (a total of 14 phones supported) and they have released a separate iOS for phones that don’t. Not a lot of phone manufacturers support their phones long past 6 years. If they were trying to push an upgrade they’d stop at 2-3 years.

They admitted to the throttling which I mentioned. That was via a software update and it was to extend the life of the battery not inhibit it. It may have slowed the phone itself down but it would have actually helped with battery life. In any case it would have made your phone last longer not push you to an upgrade. If Apple was able to remotely control phones, kill their batteries and then make them better on a cycle you can bet we’d all find out about it sooner rather than later. Same as we did with the throttling.
