They have now put DS6 on valium !!

It was ANOTHER awful night with him not sleeping at all. Not even an hour. I am soo tired and my little man is wiped out. BIG TIME. The valium is not working at all. I dont know what else to do, I have childrens again and i am waiting to hear back from them.

he fractured his leg and is in a spica cast, the entire broken leg, half his other leg and then his torso. It is a hip and body cast. He got the cast on MOnday and it was been awful.

My godson (3) broke his leg right before Christmas and was in one of those casts. The worst thing was trying to go to the bathroom. He spent a lot of quality time in front of the tv, and I bought him a remote control car for Christmas, but boy was he glad to get that thing off.

I was in a very similar cast after spinal surgery when I was 17. Hopefully he will adjust.

How much valium? Perhaps they need to try some other form of sedation. I'm so sorry!! I really hope this gets worked out quickly. Is he unconsolable or just fitfull and unable to sleep? Pain? Good luck!

I would think he needs pain meds more than sedation at this point. For some reason doctors do not seem to think pain control in children is important. From someone who severely broke her leg at 9 YO and spent 2 weeks feeling like someone was torturing me with a hot poker, trust me he needs more than children's tylenol or motrin. Please insist on adequate pain meds for your son.

I totally agree with the above post. Talk to him there are some interesting studies going on about how under medicated children are! Be his advocate make sure he is getting the relief he deserves. Heck it wasn't that long ago that the didn'y give infants ANY pain relief for painful proceedures and I mean painful. Ask him then call the doctor and demand.

they uped the valium to stop muscle spasms and calm but i am calling the doc again at 7pm and hoping they will do something else

The physician I work with (peds ortho) would prescribe Roxicet for pain, possibly valium for muscle spasms, and possibly benedryl for sleep. Please tell me your son's MD has prescribed a good narcotic pain reliever!

no they are only giving him the valium ( for the muscles and to relax him NOT WORKING!!) and tylenol with coedine

He needs something stronger for pain. Femur fractures are very painful
