The beautiful open field is now nothing but dug up dirt.

The pond that once had geese and ducks swimming in it is gone. Drained.

Some ****** decided to buy the 84 acres that my kids used to play in, and an area where my dog loved to run in and put in a retirement community.

It used to be a farm many, many years ago!

Where will all the Foxes and deer and other wildlife go now?

I hate it....i just hate it!

I'm sorry to hear this. I can understand your anger as this seems to be common practice these days. The contractors here just keep tearing down the woods to make new subdivisions and then people wonder why they deer, foxes, turkey and other wildlife are standing in their backyards. Everybody seems to forget they(the wildlife) were there first.

I would HATE it, too Blondie!!! I joined the Sierra Club a few years ago for some peace of mind!

I felt the same way when my youngest brother decided to build near the swamp behind our house. It was so sad seeing nature all dug up! It still pains me. I will never truly enjoy his home.:(

aww, that has happened around my neighboohood. There was this really nice canyon with a cool bike trail that went down to this old baseball field, where me and my brothers use to go to play at when we were younger. But they cut down all the trees, built a street that is about 2 blocks long and put up some trailors (to this day i STILL don't know what is going on there).

It is soo sad to see places that hold great memories, gone so quickly.

I totally understand your anger. I hate nature being used up and destroyed that way.

We used to play in this big sand pit, then they put a house over it and elft an area the size of a sandbox to play in

That happened in my backyard last winter. They cut down the great Blue Spruce, filled in the creek where mallard ducks welcomed the sprning year after year. Left behind an empty lot that will not be developed, just empty.

I'm sorry Blondie. :( I know how awful it feels. :(

That's too bad. You can't drain ponds and wetlands around here for development without jumping thru all kinds of local, state and federal hoops for years on end. And I still see wooded areas beign totally stripped for housing subdivisions and then they plant some small new trees around the houses  Just doesn't make sense. It's too bad they couldn't have left the pond and maybe made a nice smaller retirement home in a natural setting. Old folks have to live somewhere too!

That's why I've always tried to find a nice neighborhood in an area already developed. As soon as there are some trees around, boom. They cut them down and put up apartment buildings.

I remember the "back field".

When I was little, the back field was a magical place.
In the summer we would hike through the "woods", pick wildberries, and play Peter Pan pretending it was never never land. For hours every day we'd escape into the cool of the trees. With our bagged lunches and warm cans of coke, we thought we were living the high life.

In the winter we'd slide down "devils hill". At the bottom there was a big pond. If it was frozen we'd slide all the way across. If it was thawed, we'd get soaking wet. It was the best.

I remember running out to play and yelling to Mom; "see ya later, we're going to the back field!" almost every day from the time I was 6 years old.

One day when I was 12, we saw trucks and bull dozers heading to the back field. They put up a sign: future home of Snug Harbor Court Apartments. We cried. By that fall, the back field was gone and we cried some more. We lived in the city and that was the last untouched parcel of land for 20 miles. There was no other place to play.

Ah, progress!

Oh don't worry, on the other half of the 84 acres is a new "luxury apartment" complex in the planning.

:( I remeber fields were I played when I was young but there are houses all over them now.I think this is happening everywhere,world-wide.The kids just want a safe place to lay and every place that we thought was fun and safe is gone and new housing estates in their place. Its sad.:(

I always hate to see changes like this. The nice little farm town I used to live in is now gone, and replaced by subdivision after subdivision filled with yuppies and young couples starting their new lives. Keep in mind, I still live in this town, but what it was was is long gone and will never return.

Sometimes I get bitter about it, but I try and keep it in perspective. All these fields that we remember playing in as children belong to someone. Someone has to pay the taxes on it and they have the right to do with it as they please. While it saddens me to see the changes, I believe the only solution would be to buy it myself so I can make the decisions, or lobby the local municipality to purchase it as park/conservation/whatever land.

We see this happening here too. A field my DS used to play in is now filled with about 60 homes. These homes overlook a shopping center  and aren't cheap! It seems nobody wants to look at an empty space without thinking of making money on it:(

That's exactly what happened, the man that owned the farm died, and his grown children would've rather had the millions they made off the land sale (I probably would've done the same thing) then to make it a working farm again. Can't blame them. Farming is a hard occupation.

I'm sure the land we live on was once someone's playground as well.....and that sombody was probably saddened that a builder bought the land to build new homes, our new home being one of them.

But I can still complain if I want to!:p

I always say that if I were to win one of those BIG lottery pots I'd buy all the land I could and keep it UNdeveloped!!!:D
