I can't swallow my pills, so I alway have to chew them up. The thought of swallowing a pill scares me to death :scared: :scared: :scared:

Anyways since I have to chew all my pills up, I am used to the nasty taste. And I can tell you I have tasted some really nasty pills, threw the years :p I also will put the pill in a spoon full of Organic Sugar and that really helps :cloud9: Sugar really helps to take the nasty taste out of most pills :goodvibes

Now because of my sinus infection, I was having an even harder time sleeping. I allready have a hard time sleeping as it is. So I went to see the doctor, because I could not sleep. She put me on something that will get rid of my sinus infection. She also put me on stuff that will clear me up and one of them are these pills and the other is this Spray.

Anyways the pills that will clear me up are really nasty and big. It's hard to chew them up even when I take it with a spoon full of Sugar. But I also have to take these really big pills that are very nasty and these are the pills that will get rid of my sinus infection.

Last time the doctor put me in this pink medicane for children, because I could not swallow a pill. The pink medicine is something you drink and it taste kinda good. This time the doctor did say that she would put me on the pink medicine if I wanted that, but she thought that I might need something more strong. I wish I had taken the pink medicine, because I am sure that would have been good enough. With me I don't really need anything that strong and a child's medicane would have been fine.

Anyways these pills that will get rid of my sinus infection taste so nasty and they are so big. Even when I put them in a spoon full of Organic Sugar I still feel like I am going to throw up. But they will get rid of my sinus infection, so that is good

I will be glad when I am done taking these pills ;) When I take them I just think about the Sugar that taste so nice :goodvibes I will also start to think happy thought when I take these pills :goodvibes I can think of little Suzy and Perla kissing me and I can think of me giving my adorable little stuffed animal bunny a hug and that can take my mind off the awful taste of the pill  :goodvibes :cloud9:

My little stuffed animal bunny is my friend  Sometimes if I can't go to sleep, my little bunny helps me to go to sleep :cloud9: My little bunny can calm my nerves and that helps me to go to sleep  :cloud9: I Love my little bunny  :cloud9:  :cloud9:

Try putting the pills in applesauce or pudding. It helps the medicine go down. :thumbsup2

You should be careful about chewing up your pills. Some pills can cause serious internal damage if they are chewed up instead of swallowed. Normally they have warnings on the prescription bottles about it.

You need to check with your pharmacy right away. Some medication can not be crushed or it renders it useless or can hurt your stomach or throat AND it can really affect how quickly or where it is absorbed into your system!!!!!!

It is not as simple as you think it is meds are in the form they are in for very REAL reasons. CALL and check.

I always tell the doctor that I have to chew my pills. So if there was a problem the doctor would let me know about it, when I told him/her that I have to chew my pills.

you should try swallowing some little pills, I to used to think I was going to choke on pills, but when I got sick once, I had to shallow some pills and I realized it wasnt so bad.

Those antibiotics are awful even if you swallow them, they taste gross.and the taste doesnt go away for awhile.
I do love the chewable dramamine though.

You might want to talk to your dr about giving you liquid medicine. It's based on weight so an adult might have to take a few teaspoons. I don't think it's a good idea to chew pills that aren't actually chewable. I believe they're designed to slowly disolve in your stomach and by chewing them you're releasing too much medicine into your system at once.

I learned how to swallow a pill around age 12. My mom stuck it in some cranberry sauce and it went right down. You might want to try something like that or at the very least cut the pills in 1/2 and then swallow each 1/2.

BINGO

I just called my wife who is a registered Pharmacist and asked her about chewing vs swallowing. She said that some meds like sustained release shouldn't be chewed because of their coatings (?) that are on them. She also said the same thing about how some meds when chewed can harm the esophagus.

Ugggg. Calgon take me away.

I would still call the pharmacy! Pharmacists know the formulation of the pills Doctors do not , and believe me on that. They are trained differently and most Dr's do not remember if they ever knew the formulation of pills and if your pharmacy isn't aware of what you are doing they may be using a different brand or form of the medication your DR. ordered. The pharmacist is the specialist the Dr. is the generalist. Please check or you could be taking 10 days of pills and not be getting any benefits. As a nurse I know there are many, many meds that can not be broken, crushed, or even made into liquids.

FYI....I would go to the pharmacy and ask. You'd be AMAZED at the amount or lack there of that DR's have on some medications. Wife has told me no specific stories (HIPAA) but generally said how many times she calls back the DR.'s office because they will prescribe meds that have bad interactions.

Like the others said, you do need to be careful when you chew pills. You should call the pharmacist and check. :) I hope you feel better soon.

I must say your bunny is adorable! :)

When I was little I couldn't swallow pills either so me and my mom made a game out of it. Since she had to take alot of medication everyday we would have a race. She would give me my pill and she would get one of hers and then we would see who could swallow theirs the fastest.
It took a few tries but I eventually "won" a few times and since then no problems.

OK, I'll bite because you know this is what he was after.

Singing:
A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down .....

Now, I've got that darn song stuck in my head.

:crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2:

I was the same way until I was well into my teens. BLECH! My son's pediatrician once told me that he knew a few adults who couldn't swallow pills.

I'm glad I learned. Have you tried to practice with Tic Tacs or Mini M&Ms?

No offense, but I was wondering is this the real you? Meaning are you a grown man who talk in baby talk for the heck of it, or is their something wrong with you mentally?

Really I mean no offense by asking this, but I just find it strange for a man in this day and age to speak like a little kid unless some type of sick fetish is involved

That said, IF there's a mental problem please accept my apologies as I do not make light of disabilities:hippie:

I've asked that before, and never gotten a real answer. I think it's someone who acts like they have a handicap.

FlowersChild, my sister is 14 and she still can't swallow pills either. She's on medication for anxiety, and one of the things that triggers her panic attacks is thinking she's going to throw up. Swallowing pills makes her feel like she's going to throw up so...there you go. Her doctor gave her pills that can be crushed, and she puts them in her applesauce.

Agreed. One of my prescriptions MUST be swallowed whole or it would do serious damage to my throat.
