These Kids Make Me Wish You Could Curse on the DISBoards (May '11 Trip) - DONE 9/14

Jon, I am hopelessly behind that I won't sit and try to quote and comment like I ususally do.

I'm in the same boat when it comes to the "How do you think..." group TR. Fortunately, there are plenty of comments on there, so my absence can be much less noticeable :)

No, I'm not packed yet...but we do leave four weeks from tomorrow. :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

You're basically out of time. Start packing NOW!

Lurking... which sounds really creepy... Sorry.

Nothing wrong with that. I was just wondering where everyone went :)

Up next - updates!

"What do you want?"

"BEER!"

"And where you gonna get it?"

"WORLD SHOWCASE!"

"Say what?"

"WORLD SHOWCASE!"

"What's that?"

"WORLD SHOWCASE!"

"That's right, World Showcase, fools! And just to show y'all how we livin', we gonna break it down like this: I say 'World', you say 'Showcase'. World!"

"SHOWCASE!"

"World!"

"SHOWCASE!"

"Awwww yeah...now we gonna set it off!"

I've thought for a while that the best job in the world is a rapper's "hype man". For those who don't know the term, it's basically just some guy that yells things like "pump it up, pump it up!" and "let me hear you scream, Miami!" between verses in a rap track. And gets paid for it. And presumably gets most of the benefits of being a 'celebrity', though the groupies are most likely second-tier.

But that's not my point. My point is that you should be sufficiently "pumped" for this update, because I know I am! World Showcase! C'mon! Beer! Wine! Imported Culture! Aging rockers! Now I say 'World', you say-

Um, nevermind. We got past that already, didn't we? Right. So off we go...to World Showcase!

Yes, we're heading back to WS in large part due to the alcohol, but it's not all about that. We really would love this place even if it were dry. Not as much, but there would still be feelings. Today, though, we have something else we need to do, and that's use up the rest of our Dining Plan snack credits on various candies from around the world. See, and you thought it couldn't get any better. So where to first?

Well, first, the kids want slushies at the "Cool Wash", which is significantly less cool, in more ways than one, now that it's seemingly a soda stand full-time. No more misting? Or did we just catch it at the wrong times?

We get the kids one, and just one, because the others we got them this week all ended up melting, forcing me to drink liquid slushie in order to avoid dumping it all over the stroller.

On the way to WS, I grab a few photos:

IMG_5394.jpg

IMG_5395.jpg

Hey, don't I see TWO slushies in the picture? What's that all about?

Well, I'll tell you what it's about - it's about relying too much on receipts to recall what you did on your WDW vacation, and dismissing the possibility that you may have thrown the other slushie receipt away. So forget most of what I said earlier...only now we still run the chance of having TWO melted slushies teetering on top of the stroller as I push it with one hand, the other hand holding a beer that I can't put into a cup holder because they're both occupied by melted slushies. See the problems the slushies cause? If the kids would just toughen up and learn how to survive on their own saliva, things would be much easier. Not to mention that Mommy and Daddy could be irresponsible parents and still have the convenience of using the cupholders.

So, where to first? Neither of us are in the mood for Mexican drinks, and we're skeptical that the candy selection in this pavilion will be on par with what we're looking for. We're thining more European here, and the next place that fits that bill is Norway. Not to dismiss our neighbors to the south entirely, I snap this great picture:

IMG_5396.jpg

And here's what Norway looks like:

IMG_5398.jpg

Of course, I have a soft spot for this pavilion since it reminds me of a certain football team that I so enjoy having my heart broken by year after year, but there's enough here to allow it to stand on its own without that. Such as "Stratos", a great chocolate bar that we'll enjoy when we get back to Pennsylvania.

Another silly thing about me is that I get a big kick out of words in other languages that are spelled very similar to their English equivalents. That said, of course I'm smiling at 'melkesjokolade'. I know, it's juvenile. But fun. As are most things juvenile.

After the purchase, Kristin gets a wine and I get another Carlsberg, which to those of you "not in the know", is NOT Norweigian, but rather Danish. I learned that, right here in my Trip Report!

I get a picture of the Lagoon, which makes the weather look much worse than it really was:

IMG_5399.jpg

Actually, it was sort of looking like rain today, which would be a break from the sweltering heat we've had the last 8 days. Emily takes refuge in the stroller:

IMG_5400.jpg

Should we ride the Maelstrom now? Nah, let's hit that later. But let's grab Fast Passes now.

FPs in hand, I grab a few more pics before we move further east.

IMG_5402.jpg

Norway looks like a nice place to visit, though I don't know if I can really get that excited over the prospect of having to mow the roof as well as the lawn. The lawn is plenty for me, thank you. Hey, look - we managed to get another picture of the kids pretending to get along!

IMG_5403.jpg

They were actually pretty good today, so far. I think the break yesterday helped. So where to next? Well, logic (and the Epcot map) would say that from Norway you go to China, so that's where we're headed!

But first, a shot to demonstrate the crowd levels in this park today:

IMG_5409.jpg

Now, it WAS crowded for the Pixar stuff earlier, so either everyone moved on, or this park just spreads out the masses in a way none of the others can.

Did I mention earlier that I miss the acrobats in front of China. Because I do.

I didn't get any pics in China, at least none that were good enough to include here. I did get a beer, though. And Kristin got a wine. The CM wouldn't sell be both at the same time without seeing the other person's ID, but fortunately, Kristin was only a few yards away at the time. It's interesting to see how some CMs enforce policies much more than others. I attribute it to "new CMs" who don't want to mess up.

The Tsing Tao is a nice beer in the heat, as are most of the WS beers. Kristin got a plum wine, which was good as well.

It apparently went down a lot easier than the beer, too, because after China, we moved on over to Germany, where Kristin got another wine. Live it up, love! It's our last day at Epcot! I still had my Chinese beer, so I settled for some train pics instead:

IMG_5410.jpg

Cool, check out the Lotso and Buzz mini-topiaries! And here are some more:

IMG_5411.jpg

Another shot of the Rapunzel tower:

IMG_5412.jpg

And this one! Nix besser! Sehr gut!

IMG_5413.jpg

If you want to hear a funny (though somewhat offensive) song, check out the Axis of Awesome's "Language of Love". Those guys are hilarious. Back to the train pics:

IMG_5414.jpg

Alright, I got enough. So what's next? Oh yeah - it's almost dinner time. And dinner is at my favorite place in all of WDW. And my favorite place in all of WDW is this place:

IMG_5415.jpg

But more on that tomorrow :)

"Not as much but there would still be feelings.". :lmao: :rotfl2:

You crack me up. I feel the same way. Love WS and the adult beverages are one of its better features. :upsidedow

That China CM must have thought you looked like trouble. ;)

Biergarten is your favorite? I am intrigued. I have never been. Truth be told the menu doesn't sound appealing to me and I'm not a big buffet fan generally. But I recently saw a great shot of the interior and thought it looked beautiful. And fun.

OK...I am properly pumped after our trip to WS and ready to start my day. :thumbsup2

Okay, now that I'm officially out of lurkdom, I'll comment on this installment as well :). The one place in WDW that my entire family loves is Biergarten. My middle son is, like Dylan, a kid who doesn't eat. Just doesn't like to eat - which I can't figure out because I love food. Anyway, he actually eats at the Biergarten. Doesn't seem like the most kid-friendly food, but what can I say - he loves it.

We're taking a surprise trip at the end of September and we'll be there over his birthday. I casually asked him the other day if he could go anywhere for dinner on his birthday, where would it be and he answered "Biergarten". So, that's one dream I can make come true :thumbsup2

Looking forward to your next installment :goodvibes

I'm still reading along... and looking forward to the Biergarten review. I'm kind of tempted to try it someday, but so far I was never willing to pay so much money for something I can get everyday at home (the food) or when visiting friends (the entertainment)... But we will try the German offerings of the F&W Festival.

Lurker here coming out of lurkdom. I started reading your TR a few days ago and am now caught up. You are hysterical--I have laughed out loud several times reading your posts.

My kids fight a good amount as well, and the fights are invariably started by my 5 year old, so I feel your pain on that one.

Cheers!

I'm starting to get worried about the number of Fastpasses you have. Unless I've added wrong, I think you have 2 from Soarin', 2 from TT, and 1 from Maelstrom and you're heading to dinner. I hope you have time to use all those Fastpasses. It would be fun to run around the park and ride all those rides in a row. :rotfl:

Everything is better with beer, if you ask me. Well, most things, at least. I'm sure Advanced Calculus would be an exception. Oh, and writing trip reports can become a problem with too much beer.

We flew out to Minnesota to see the Vikings play each of the last two years. When we heard there was a possibility that they would play this season in U of M's dry stadium, we both said, "forget that!"

Some people might call this a "problem". And I'm not sure I can argue, but I happen to like this particular problem ;)

That China CM must have thought you looked like trouble. ;)

And she was right!

I love German food. I love extra large beers, especially German ones. I love polka. So, basically, it's a "can't lose" proposition for me.

Wow, I outed a lot of lurkers with that whiny little post, didn't I? :upsidedow

We would NEVER be able to pull off a surprise trip, but if anyone took me on one, a stop at the Biergarten would be the icing on the cake. Go for it!

This is why we've never eaten at the America pavilion :) I'd love to and hope to get to Germany proper one day, but that's probably off in the distance. For now, we have to settle for the Florida version!

Thanks! I try. I don't always succeed, but I try anyway :)

Emily is clearly the instigator most of the time, but Dylan is not without guilt. The big problem is neither one is willing to be the one to end it!

We did use the first from TT, but we still have the others and the 2 sets for Soarin'. How will we find the time to use them? Will we find the time to use them? I'm hoping to put out more updates tomorrow (dead tired tonight, and have to watch the Big Brother eviction), so you should find out then!

I have seen several pictures now of your kids together where they are actually getting along.

Great pictures as you tour/drink through WS.

I'm curious to see how your meal was at Biergarten. We were extremely disappointed with our meal there in September and it was always a favorite.

:wave2: Yet another lurker accounted for. Your TR has been hilarious! I am a little worried that several imports+German buffet+pocketful 'o fastpasses might spell trouble in the next post

It must have been the slushies! All that sugary goodness!

:thumbsup2 for beer and beirgarten! I do love the entertainment there. Fun place to chow down!

Ok, I have to tell you that I LOVE your writing style! I usually get bored reading TRs, especially long ones (10 days). But you and Kristen sound like the same kind of parents we are. Your style is awesome, and you have kept me entertained for 3 nights now reading your TR! Thanks for sharing, even though it may take a while for updates!

I am loving your report! It is hilarious and very entertaining:thumbsup2

Thanks! I hope I can keep it up for the rest of the report. We're getting close to the end...

I have seen several pictures now of your kids together where they are actually getting along.

They do sometimes at home, too! They actually got much better as the trip went on. I think they finally started to realize that we were basically going t do whatever Mom and Dad wanted to do, so they should just accept it and try to enjoy themselves :)

Not to worry - we're professionals! I rode TT post-Biergarten a few years back, and it was a blast! More on that in a bit.

It must have been the slushies! All that sugary goodness!

Hmmm...you may be on to something ;)

Thank you!! I try to be quicker getting updates out, though it hasn't been working out that way lately. I was better in the beginning :)

I'll try to get an update out today or tonight, especially since I don't know if we'll have power tomorrow due to the storm. We're pretty far inland (one whole state inland, to be exact, though we're on the far eastern side of PA), but we're supposed to get hit all the same.

Talk to you soon!

What was disappointing about it?

The food! The beer was good, entertainment great and the service was about what you expect Disney. Oh and the desserts were very good; but the main food -- schnitzel (which was chicken and NOT veal) was dry, the pork was dry, etc.

Oh...and just so you know....26 days until we are at DW. :goodvibes

I have mixed feelings about this one. The kids love him. He IS soft and cuddly. But he WAS a grade A piece of trash in "Toy Story 3", and it's hard to get past that. He even had a chance to redeem himself, but blew it. He's apparently all love and, well, hugs, now, so I guess I have to give him the benefit of the doubt. The camera does love himn.
We decided on another thread on Dis somewhere that it was only the one in the movie was evil and that he was only evil because he had had a bad past being abandoned by the little girl he loves so much and all that. All the other Lotso's are good :)

They were fun, which makes me feel even more guilty that I forgot their names. I could always look it up, but I think I should suffer for this one.
Old Man =Carl
Boy= Russell

Love your pics with the guys from Up! I love that movie. I was disappointed that the regular meet and greet with them was changed just before our trip last year and we missed the Pixar weekend for this trip.

We love the Biergarten too! We went there on our recent trip and my Dad had a nice chat with the waitress about being stationed there a couple times while he was in the Army (the last time was when I was a baby - we were there from when I was about 6 months old until about 2) Can't wait to hear about your meal there.
