These boards would be a lot more pleasant with a truce.

Or do we want them to be pleasant?:D I'm guilty. I've given some pretty snotty retorts to anti-Kerry statements that I thought were uncalled for. And I've enjoyed it :hyper: !!

Anybody out there game for a truce? I'll do it if anyone else will. From now on, when you see a really nasty, personal attack against a candidate, just say something like -- "hmmmmmm, interesting." That could be code for "what you just said really blows but I'm not going to contribute to the negativity."

I think this could be fun; or not..... :D

GAWD-I really want to do it. I'll try.
 It's.....not......going......to.......be......easy.
Forgive me if I fail.
practice, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm interesting!

too many m's? how about hmmmmmmmmm interesting!
nope, still too many m's.

Think maybe...."thanks for expressing your opinion"
would work?

I think maybe we need an election board like the other
thread suggests. Then you wouldn't have to even see
these posts unless you willingly went there.
Could I resist? Dunno

I want in too! I hate getting "blasted" when I disagree so your solution sounds promising.

I

I really like that!!! (maybe without the  .)

I'm not against debating -- intelligent people around the globe do it every day without being nasty -- and not being nasty is what I aim to do.

I've just been trying to avoid some of the more hostile threads! :D

Some people still really get on my nerves, though!

I'm in. Everytime I look at political thread, I worry about America.

Yeah-I was using the rolleyes as a sign of my lack of
confidence that I might be able to pull this off. I was on the
debate team in High School and college. What we do on these
boards is argue. LOL Good old fashioned soap box screamin
arguing. No debates here!

just don't click on 'em if they bother you

again, I'll say that debates don't bother me. Nastiness, personal attacks against fellow debaters, even personal attacks against the candidates -- they bother me. And I'm guilty. I've done it in the past. I just think it has done nothing more than reveal my ignorance and frustration. I'll just stick to the facts from now on, ma'm, just the facts.:)

I'll try.

Ok, I get the hmmmm....interesting part for when I read something rude.

What do I type in when I want to make a nasty, personal attack against a candidate?:teeth:

And don't tell me if I can't say something nice, not to say anything at all. Nice theory, but in practice it sucks.

How bout something like, "He's really neat!" Or, "He's a very 'special' person."

I've always played by that rule. Insults and ad hominem attacks from BOTH sides suck. Debates are much more civil without them.

I started this a week or two ago. I still read all the threads but haven't replied to many (if any) at all recently. Or if I have been tempted I write my reply and then hit the back button or close the window - Like I said before you guys don't see some of the really good stuff I write ;)

Ok, I couldn't do the he's really neat thing, but I suppose, if I make up my own personal definition for "special" it might work.;)

Anyone else have the irresistible urge to "channel" telephone on hold messages? "Thank you for your opinion. Your opinion is important to us. Please continue to argue." ;)
