These boards would be a lot more pleasant with a truce.

Hmmmm - You're definitely an idiot and probably aren't smart
enough to know I've just insulted you

Your hmmmm had four m's thereby calling us idiots who are too dumb to realize we've been dissed.

WELL

Hmmmmm...

or just

H.................

Thank you for your opinion, Peachgirl.

(was that at all insulting?)

And I think you're a very "special" person.

Was that?;)

I hope people don't start saying it in the middle of real debates.

Too late...

Darn, now I need to print your post so I can check the number of m's attached to the h to make sure I'm not being insulted...just another thing to hang on the monitor. Thanks a lot ;)

I thought the idea of this thread was to suggest that when things started to get out of hand, one should walk away with a non-commital comment. Not to simply enter any thread that is political and for no good reason make an inane post and leave.

Interesting how quickly this one went awry. The original suggestion was

and yet when someone made an honest post on a new thread about why they would vote for anyone but Bush ( have we not been assailed by posters to come out and admit we are for ABB?) several posters imediately jumped in to use some of the reponses suggested here.

The ABB poster made no personal nasty attacks against the candidate or anyone. She gave legitimate reasons for why she was not voting for Bush. So slipping in these answers serves little but to make sure the OP feels silly for trying to start what some might call a legintimate thread. It was mean in a middle school yard kind of way.

I seriously doubt if auntpolly had this in mind when she came up with such a good idea. Go back and read the ABB thread....and try to imagine standing around at a party and having someone make the statement the OP did....now picture the other guests responding the way some other posters did. Not a pretty picture is it?
I think it was completely appropriate without being negative. This happens all the time ... I do the same thing with co-workers. It would be impolite to just stand and stare at them without responding, so a polite "that's interesting" is a way to acknowledge their opinion without making a commitment about what you think about it.

I think you are reading way too much into this.

Yes, it is. That refers to me as a person. My comment referred to your opinions. Big difference. Not that I'm really insulted, btw. But there is a considerable difference.

I'm in. Everytime I look at political thread, I worry about America.

Actually, It makes me feel more secure about America! Open debate is one of the conerstones of our society. We grow as a nation this way. I would be scared if we weren't debating. I can not think of one major piece of major change in our history that did involve open, spirited debate. Now the internet makes it easier to get invovled in the debate. Terroists do not want us to debate. They want us to hide and not say anything or go to vote. It has been spirited, but good for all. I hold no grudges. If Kerry does win, I may be asking alot of his supporters why he is doing or saying certain things during his presidency.

However, I will cool off a little as well.

I don't think that is what clutter meant. Everybody loves a good exchange of ideas. But how is telling someone they are stupid for what they believe, or slinging mud at a candidate a good exchange of ideas? That stuff is just "uhmmmmm interesting."

Someone says something moronic and then 50 people jump in to say equally moronic things -- I've gotten myself in the middle of those and never feel good about myself afterwards. That's not constructive.

Ok. let me try again. Keeping in mind my post on this thread where I talked about using the word "special"....

I think your opinion is "special". There, I'm only referring to your opinon and not you. I'd tell you what my new definition of "special" is, but I'd get banned. :D

If you're running I might vote for you (but only if you're special:jester: )

Not if it included words which were included in the McGreevy post.;) obviously there are some ways to describe "special" but it probably depends on who you are!

The only up side is seeing a hmmmm...., where I'd normally read some outrageous right wing attitude, is much nicer.

I do agree that sometimes some of us do leave the issues and try to take sly personal digs. It certainly is frustrating!

Marcie! Oh my gosh you crack me up! :teeth: :hyper:

This is the first thread I've read on the DIS this evening. I wondered how things were going with the new catch phrases. And in actuality, as funny as Lanshark's/Marcie's post is, I think it's very true.

I honestly thought this thread was a joke this morning! :earseek: I really didn't think anyone would take it seriously and fling the catch phrases around during a debate, no matter how insulting the debates had become. Personally, and just my opinion, I'd rather respond or not respond to aggression, than be frustrated by passive aggressiveness. But, that's just me, and I might just be "special" in the head.  ;)

What is the point in arguing with someone's opinions? It's as if you think they'll change them, when they are probably as strongheaded as I am...which means they won't change...

Hmmmmm...intersting idea...thanks for sharing it!

If your special in the head, then so am I because I agree with you completely. This is a silly, sort of fun thing on this thread, but don't look for me to do this anywhere else.:D
