DH and I leave tomorrow for a faculty led art trip in Rome - we have one day in Florence and a side trip to Pompeii (DH retired social studies teacher). I know I should be more excited, but all I'm thinking about is our May trip for F & G! Here I am on the Disboards reading threads. Any help out there?

:grouphug: Glad to know I am in good company. We are going to Disney in April. We are planning a summer vacation to Canada and all I keep thinking is... I really want to go back to Disney!!! But I think once we arrive at our non-Disney locations it really won't be that bad ;)

You're from New England. You could be like me and just desperate for some of that Florida warmth and sunshine!!
Enjoy your vacation!

Yep, you are definitely not alone. We have our May trip to WDW already planned (we are now just counting down until we go :yay:), and then in October we are going to Williamsburg Virginia with my parents, then in January we are going back to Disney for my DH's birthday. I am not even thinking about the Williamsburg trip even though I and DH have been there many times and we really do enjoy going (we are going to show the girls that there are more to vacations than just Disney), but for some very odd reason I can't get the Disney trips out of my head.....Hi my name is PoohsFan1 and I am a serious Disneyaholic and very proud of it! :goodvibes

Being from Minnesota I can understand your desire for the warmth and flowers of F&G. I also am addicted to Disney BUT if I could go back to Florence I would trade a F&G visit anytime. Of all the cities I visited in Italy Florence was my favorite because of the amazing and priceless art and architecture. I couldn't believe it. If you have not been there before you will be blown away. Have a marvelous time.

I agree with you. My dd and I went to Italy in July 2007 after buying into DVC in Jan. same year. We even had our first DVC trip planned in mid Aug. same year. ALTHOUGH ITALY WAS NEAT.... after having spent all that moola for a 10 day trip.... I would have rather ADDED ON DVC POINTS instead. :rotfl2: If I go back to Italy...I would probably ONLY go to Florence. I agree with pp.... FLORENCE was amazing and we didn't spend enough time there.

I love Disney and DVC but Italy in the flesh , not Epcot's Italy, but the real Italy! Wow, how lucky you are! Surely you can muster up some enthusiasm, come on give it a try, I bet you'll get something much better than Tutto Italia when you get to Florence! and you know, F & W comes around every year.

I am like you... we went to Disney in Jan. and are hoping to go for a quick trip in Oct. FINGERS CROSSED, and we too have a trip to Busch Gardens planned this summer along with a gulf beach trip/visiting family... but all that I really LOVE doing is planning the Disney trips. I am on here far more than I need to be. I really need to be working on our summer trips. :lmao: We live 1 1/2 hours from Hershey Park, about that from King's Dominion, 3 or so hours from Busch Gardens and ONLY our dd has been to Busch Gardens and that was when she was a baby/toddler, but she has been to Disney 18 times. :rolleyes1 Our kids are 20, 17 and 12 now. :scared1:

OP, as you can see by the responses you are in good company. Who else would understand?:rotfl: That being said, I would love to go to anywhere overseas as I've never been. So, enjoy for all of us!:flower3:

Well, we cannot go to WDW this year at all because we're going on one of the DCL Med cruises in August...while I am soooo looking forward to another DCL and our 3 stops in Italy (which I KNOW will be FABULOUS) I am still having a hard time dealing with the fact that I don't know when we'll be back to FL and this month is one year since our last trip down there!!! On our trip this summer we are spending 4 nights in Paris and have planned 1 night / 2 days at Disneyland Paris to start the trip out and to get some more "Disney fix" but I am afraid it just won't be the same!! And I miss my Owners Locker!!!:guilty: To complicate things we are planning to go to Hawaii and DL in 2012!! So I understand... I am DESPERATELY trying to figure out a way to get to FL sometime in the next year!! It may be that we will have to buy those crazy expensive Premium bi-coastal whatever they're called AP's to do it....I just can't stand the idea of waiting until 2013 to go back to WDW but we have to get thru this trip to Europe first before I can figure it out!!!!!!:scared1:

We miss WDW when its too long between trips too, but I would take that itinerary in a heartbeat! :thumbsup2

I know, right?! :rotfl: I know this trip is going to be awesome it's just that we'd gotten used to going down to WDW 2 or 3 times a year with the AP's...now with no end in sight it just feels so SAD or something!! :rolleyes1

Thanks for all the understanding and words of encouragement too. I did spend some time with the guide books. Do you know Rick Steves actually tells you how to say "I eat only insects" in Italian? :lmao: I for one won't be eating any insects, but sampling pasta and wine.

And I know the art of the Vatican and Sistine chapel plus the Uffizi will be wonderful.

It'll be a good trip and DH and I will be back in Disney in May and November -- living part of the dream of F & G and F & W in each year.

AnalAnnie: I'd love to do the cruise with Disney, and see DLP. You have great travel plans.

I don't have his book on Italy yet but I DO have his Paris book on my Kindle...he tells you EXACTLY how to find the best (biggest) bathroom with the shortest lines at the Eiffel Tower so I don't doubt you for a minute!! Have a GREAT time!!!

Have you ever been to Pompeii before? I love WDW, but Pompeii was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

Oh yeah we enjoyed Pompeii too. Looking back...there were many things we liked about Italy but we went with a high school tour group....it was a whirl wind. UP VERY late each night, up VERY early the next morning. We had to be on a schedule for everything. That got old fast. I think if I ever went back to Italy..it would NOT be with a high school tour group. :lmao: Plus we did the GRAND TOUR so we were moving all the time. We stayed in 5 hotels..it was exhausting. I loved St. Francis of Assisi too. :) My least fave was probably Venice and parts of ROME.

Ya, I did one of those tours before, not a school group but a 15 day whirlwind tour. Not the best way to see Europe, but it gives you a nice sampling. Early in my career, I got the opportunity to go to Naples for a week and do some work on the NATO base. Well, I had a free day so I took a USO tour to Pompeii and climbed Mt. Vesuvius. The ruins of Pompeii make the Roman ruins look like nothing. I mean Pompeii is a completely preserved city, and when I was there (1997) they said only about a third of it had been excavated.

Yeah, there is something wrong with you! :) I love WDW as much as anyone, but there is a great big wondeful world out there beyond it. Try to enjoy it, you might regret it if you don't let yourself appreciate it.
