There's No Place Like Home......

Hahaha, Sci Fi seems to really be one of those Love It or Hate It places. Pretty much everybody loves the theme. No doubt about that. But I have heard than many don't care for the food. I can't comment on either since I've never actually been. But it's kind of sweet that everyone loves it (even if you are outnumbered) since it clearly provides a tradition which is always a good thing for a family to have.

I have heard that the shakes are unquestionably superb though. And wow, it sure does sound like Uncle ______ was awesome!!! I love CM's that go that extra mile.

That photo at the end is super awesome!!!! I love that the two in the back joined in like that. Love it!!

I found your trip report and I am all caught up. Now, I want to back track and read your past reports :)

It has been a rainy yucky weekend for me, but I did manage to catch up on your two previous trip reports. I had to know the story behind you being locked in a bathroom!

I do have one question that has nothing to do with Disney. I saw that you have a Maine Coon cat. I have a fifteen year old Ragdoll and I've been eyeing the Maine Coon as my next fur baby. I won't be getting another cat while mine is living, but honestly he's getting older and I know he won't be around forever. He is like a puppy. He follows me all over the house, even sleeps on the side of the bathtub while I take a bath! He plays fetch and greets our guests at the door. He is my alarm clock! I just wondered if the Maine Coon cats share any of these traits?

yeah it's really not bad at all , I just have so many places on my bucket list.....

Oh the shakes are wonderful!! Yes he was truly one of those CM's.....kept the Disney magic going for sure. Which unfortunately is becoming more and more rare as of late I am afraid.

Ha! :thumbsup2

wow that must have been some rain lol! Thank you so much for taking an interest in my crazy TR's!! :goodvibes

Oh my goodness yes Maine Coons make wonderful fur babies!!! He is seriously the best cat in the world and we love him so very much. We did not even know that he was a Maine Coon at the time and had just picked out the fluffiest orange kitten in the pack of kittens lol! They are often referred to as "gentle giants" because of their large size and sweet personalities. They also seem to pick out one person to be their "master" and in this case it was our son. They have been inseparable since! He follows Cory around like a doggie and sleeps on his pillow with him every night. He plays fetch too! When Cory is away at a friend's house overnight Milo will walk around the house crying and looking for him. They are such sweet cats. And they have such a little meow that it seems weird to have such a small voice for such a large breed....and they do get big!!! The only issue with have with him is because of his coat he does have a hard time with hairballs and we regularly have to give him laxatone to help with that situation. We also take him to the groomer in the warmer months to get his "lion cut" because he gets hot here in Texas (even though he is an indoor cat lol) and it helps to keep his hair from getting knotted up too. Also we have a 6 month old tabby cat that we got in the summer so that our Maine Coon would have a companion while we are gone and he always seems to annoy Milo and jump on him (being a normal hyper kitten) and Milo could seriously mess this kitten up if he wanted to but he just let's him do whatever and will lay there, or if he gets fed up he will run away, but never ever has he attacked or hit the kitten, even if the kitten is stalking him as prey lol. Sorry I know I am just babbling about cats now lol! I am sorry to hear about you fur baby getting older and it sounds like you love him very much! If the time does ever come for you to get another cat I would highly recommend getting a Maine Coon. :goodvibes

What bad luck with your Magic Bands and credits! You certainly seemed to roll with it better than most guests. :goodvibes

I think it's very likely that your kids will give the Tower of Terror another chance. My sister rode it for the first time when she was eight and had a HORRIBLE time. It may not have helped that my mom didn't have a good grip on her purse and it kept flying up and hitting Anika with every drop. :rolleyes1 Anika was furious with us and was firm that she would NEVER ride it again.

Fast forward two years later...

We were spending the evening at Hollywood Studios and enjoying a quick dinner after Fantasmic. Anika turned to me and said, "You know, Jen, I've been thinking... I think I need to give the Tower of Terror another chance." What? Seriously?! I didn't give her a chance to change her mind and we went straight onto the ride after dinner (no motion sickness issues here) - and she LOVED it. It's now one of her favorite rides in all of Disney World!

It's amazing what some time and a few years will do. :thumbsup2

Thank you for this! You weren't babbling, just answering my questions! My kitty is also a one "master" kind of cat. He tolerates my husband and my daughter, but adores me :goodvibes Ragdolls are really good about not matting, but they shed like crazy! I've never had to have his hair cut. I found a kitten inside the parts department at my work several months ago and carried her home. I thought that my cat would enjoy some company during the day while we're at work, but he hated her! She ended up at my mom's house!

I'm back from Disneyland and catching up. OMG more bad look at the gates! You seemed very calm about it though.. I love Sci Fi all that food looks yummy

Your meal at Sci Fi looks like it was so much fun. Love that you had such a great CM waiting on you.

I could never have a milkshake before dinner and eat all that pasta, as delicious as it looks.

Great picture of you and your family in the car. Your kids are super cute.

I have had the same thing happen at the HS gates. They finally gave up and let everyone in. Weird. :confused3 I've never had that happen at any other of the parks.

Fun updates!

Oh I hope you had so much fun at Disneyland!!! Yes we were having quite a time with luck lol. Sci Fi is pretty darn good I will admit!

yes he was AMAZING

lol true. I don't think that would even be acceptable anywhere BUT Disney!
Great picture of you and your family in the car. Your kids are super cute.
Awww thank you so much!!:goodvibes

that is so weird. it was a first for us but I have read about it before here on the DIS so apparently it's not too uncommon:sad2:
Fun updates!

Aww no worries! Glad I could give some insight. I will never pass up an opportunity to talk about our cats lol. We love them so much!!

See I love hearing things like that! Thank you for sharing your story with me and giving me hope that I have not completely ruined my kids of the awesomeness of ToT! And YAY for you sister getting up the courage to give it another shot and loving it!!! :goodvibes

More Frozen Summer Fun….and FAKE SNOW IN SEPT?!
Sorry for the lack of updates everyone! Things have been a bit hectic around here lately and I could not find the time to get back into writing and updating. Anyways so when I left off we had just finished dinner at Sci Fi and were headed towards the park exit. But we were not quite leaving yet. We had something new to experience first! On our way I took a moment to say hi to Gertie!

We continued ahead until we found a spot in front of the hat.

Well not directly in front of the hat lol! But what we were here for we did not need to be right up front for. Nope. In fact I would say the further back you are the better! We were about to experience Frozen Summer Fun in the form of fireworks at Hollywood Studios (MGM)! This was something new for us. A new firework show in a park that we had yet to see fireworks in….and it was FROZEN!!

While we waited for the preshow to end the kids spent the time playing games while DH and I enjoyed the band playing great songs from the 80's and 90's. Then it was time!

Cue the fireworks!!!

They had everything synced up to songs from Frozen and I have to say it was a pretty amazing show!

Yeah it was pretty spectacular. Especially to see it in this park.

After the show was over they sent out the fake snow and I was like "oh it's like Disney at Christmas again!!!!!"

I'm a sucker for fake snow at Disney……
It was then time to go because the park was closing and they told us we had too. We followed the herds to find our bus stop and wait. The good news is that it did not take long at all to get on a bus.

The bad news is that when you go to Disney, despite the time of year or crowds, this scene is all too common when going back to your resort at night. Like a can of sardines lol! The sad thing is that we are pretty used to it by now and this is completely normal. But it's better than having to wait in the tram line to go back to your car and then fight the driving out of the park crowds. See there is always a silver lining.
Once we had returned to CSR we headed straight to bell services to see about getting our luggage to our room. For some reason they were super busy for this time of night. We asked to have our luggage brought to our room and they informed us that we had to call from our room to have it brought. Seriously? It was late, we were tired, and I am sure that they have these policies in place for a reason so we said okay and made our way to our room.
We got to our room and called bell services and asked them to bring us our luggage. At this point they informed us that they were super busy (which we already knew because we were just there lol) and that it would be quite some time before they could get our luggage to us. No time specific either just a really long time. So they suggested that we come and get our luggage ourselves and that would be quicker. I'm sorry were we not just there? Again it was late and we were tired and just ready to get cleaned up and to bed, which at this point we needed our luggage to accomplish this, so we unwillingly made the walk back to El Centro to get our own luggage and towed it back to our room. Not a magical Disney experience to say the least and a little knowledge ahead of time before we made the first trip would have been helpful. Just saying.
None the less we had our stuff and eventually we were all able to climb into our beds and get some shut eye. Overall today had been a good day despite the hiccups. We had experienced lots of new things today and revisited some old favorites. And we were in Disney so everything seemed right with the world! And tomorrow was a new adventure!!!

YAY Gertie. My mother's name is Gertie so I have a particularly strong bond with that Dino. And she looks a little spooky there in that photo. As did my mother when I did something wrong. So it all works. :)

WOW, yeah, a bit more crowded for the fireworks than I had, lol. And UGH, that construction wall on the right really doesn't help with the crowd at all. But definitely much better to be back a bit. I imagine you'd see nothing if you were up front (other than the stage of course).

I have too agree. So much fun to experience something new like fireworks in MGM. Wonderful show.

Ahhh that last shot is perfection!!!! Look at all that Snoap!! It's so cool to see that with the Palm trees.

"It was then time to go because the park was closing and they told us we had too." :rotfl2: Well, I guess that's as good of a reason as any.

"But it's better than having to wait in the tram line to go back to your car and then fight the driving out of the park crowds. See there is always a silver lining." I guess I will put that to the test next trip as I just recently booked, for the first time EVER, Magical Express. So it'll be all Disney transport for the first time. I've taken Disney Transport before of course, but never entirely. Should be interesting.

Oh wow regarding the luggage situation. That would annoy me to no end. "Go to your room and we'll bring it". "You know, it would be better if you came and got it yourself." :furious: My response... "Hello Left Hand... This is Right Hand... Apparently you haven't met."

So, I'm going from lurking to joining. I'll have read your other TR's to find out about being locked in a bathroom. Love this TR, but sorry to hear about all the troubles you've had this day. You have a great outlook on it all. :thumbsup2 Very Disney of you. Can't wait to read more!

I remember you telling me this before!! That just makes your mom that much more awesome Rob!! I love that name :) Ha! I liked how your tied all of that together Rob :thumbsup2 I cannot imagine what you could have done as a child to make your mom' eyes glow!!

Oh my goodness yes we were right by that stupid stupid wall! We kept laughing at the "fake" traffic light on the other side of the wall that kept doing its thing despite being almost completely covered up by the wall. Yeah you had a bit of bad luck there with the rain. I can imagine that clearing out the crowds quite a bit:worried:

absolutely:thumbsup2

SNOAP!!! Yes that is the perfect term lol:rotfl:

Right?!:bitelip:

Oh Rob I am so happy and proud! I hope that you have an amazing experience with this and just let it go!! It's so wonderful to not have to worry about a car. And I am only sorry that I will not be able to experience your first ever Magical Express ride first hand with you because it will be amazing!!
Oh wow regarding the luggage situation. That would annoy me to no end. "Go to your room and we'll bring it". "You know, it would be better if you came and got it yourself." :furious: My response... "Hello Left Hand... This is Right Hand... Apparently you haven't met."

Well hello there and welcome! :wave2:I am so glad to have you join. Ha! Yeah the bathroom situation :rolleyes:that was something to say the least lol! I thought for a time there that was going to be the norm for all of our trips....thankfully it did not end up being a tradition! We did have a bit of bad luck to start with but hey it's Disney so there is no way my spirits could be broken!!

It's Epcot Day! It's Epcot Day! Hooray Hooray It's Epcot Day!!

We woke up bright and early the next morning and headed down to Peppermarket for breakfast of sorts. Today was Labor Day and also Epcot day!! Woohoo!! I love, love, love Epcot! But first we had to get some grub to my baby birdies.

Since we were on the dining plan we used one adult credit and the kids split a waffle plate. I know that breakfast is a horrible way to spend a QS credit but every year we always have left over credits!

While the kiddos ate I decided to fill my mug with some yummy Disney Resort coffee, and as I sat and sipped I wondered why they made Donald look so weird on the new mugs….I like Donald a lot but this is not a very flattering picture for him lol.

Even though we were enjoying our morning at the Peppermarket we could not spend too much time here because we had a 9 am rope drop to get too!

We had no problems getting a bus and making our way to the park. We were through bag check by 9:05 am! After taking a quick pic of the kids with Spaceship Earth in the background (how can you not stop for at least one) we mall walked all the way to Test Track. Yes we had to decide which headliner to go to first. Since we had experienced Soarin' at California Adventure in June we opted for Test Track this time around.

Plus we really enjoy this ride too! Standby was not long at all considering the park had just opened and I assumed that most people were on the other side of the park in the Land Pavilion.

This was the first time since the remodel….or for that case ever I think, that we had gone through the standby for this ride. The kids really enjoyed the queue, especially the interactive parts.

Then we came to the holding room before the design part. Crap I had forgotten how incredibly long this process is now.

The kids got busy making their cars.

I'll let you guess who's masterpiece this belonged too lol.

Finally it was time to actually ride!! The doors opened as we bottlenecked ourselves up the ramp into the second part of the line. It's a process folks.

It's all worth it in the end however because this ride is so much fun!! For grins I had timed how long it would take from start to finish and it was just under half an hour. And the ride was a walk on for the most part. This is probably not the ride you want to get in line for if you have to cut it close for dinner or any other reservation you might have.

Since were in no rush at this point we let the kids wander around a bit in the exit area of this ride. Cory reminded us that he only had a few more years until he can get his license. I reminded him that a license did not come with a car and he had better start saving his money now….and keep dreaming lol.

At this point we had killed enough time, and after stopping for a quick moment at the wonderful fountain of Epcot, we headed toward the living seas area. It was time to use our first throw away and seemingly pointless fastpass of the day.

Ah, yes….Nemo. This is one of DH's favorites. Not sure if there is a reason. Just is.Ha!
I had purposely planned all of our fastpasses in an early sequence as humanly possible on purpose just in case we wanted to have the option of getting a 4th at one of the kiosks after using all 3 of our pre planned ones. Since they tier the passes here we had to throw away one. I felt silly swiping my magic band this early in the morning to get on the Nemo ride though lol!

We went our journey and found Nemo no problem. Hey , listen, this ride is cute and air conditioned so that's a win in my book.

We then made our way back to the center of the park and noticed that Spaceship Earth was a walk on. Since we had a bit of time still to kill before our next scheduled FP we thought why not!

Despite the climb up and the decent down I do really enjoy this ride. Classic.

DH and Cory decided to ride together.

Which left Syd and I to making our funny face people. I cannot remember what this ride was like before the funny face thing. It just goes together like bread and butter.

After Spaceship it was finally time for us to cash in on our 2nd fastpass selection for the day. Back to Test Track we went for round two lol!

This time we were able to share with a couple of single riders which we always enjoy. It makes the rides so much more fun!!! Even if they did not want to share in our hands in the air celebration. It's okay guys, maybe next time.

Our next plan was to hit World Showcase as soon as it opened. Since it was still not quite 11am we killed a bit more time in the exit room to Test Track.

The kids actually did enjoy spending a bit of time racing the cars they had designed around the virtual track.
Finally it was close enough to 11:00 that we could move on. Mexico here we come!!!!

Great report so far! I'm the same age as you, also with two kids (both boys though). It's always fun to see what families similar to yours do at the world!

Wait... What day is it? Epcot Day? You should have mentioned that somewhere.

It's so weird that I'm actually looking forward to getting a refillable mug again.

Yeah, I can see with a group of people the Tron Track/Soarin' dilemma would be much more difficult. Solo it's easy since TT has single rider. I don't know that I've been through the Stand-By/FP queue ever. I kinda do want to make a butt ugly car at least once.

Soarin has a very similar beginning to end time (not including wait time) so I guess neither is a good choice if you're in a rush.

"I reminded him that a license did not come with a car" Party pooper.

That's so true. You're much better off burning off a FP rather than waiting it out just to get them used up. How weird is that?

I think while I do love Future World, I'm finding more and more that is it becoming the place I kill time until World Showcase opens. So YAY World Showcase!!!

Thank you! Yes I am the same way when lurking about on the disboards.....and yes I admit that I am a lurker, no shame here lol! :goodvibes
Wait... What day is it? Epcot Day? You should have mentioned that somewhere.
bahahahhaha....smarty pants;)
It's so weird that I'm actually looking forward to getting a refillable mug again.
that's not weird at all!!! not looking forward to it...now that would be weird:thumbsup2

ha! yes you should totally put that on your bucket list for your Jan trip!!:lmao:

this it true....
"I reminded him that a license did not come with a car" Party pooper.
alrighty then I will just tell him that Uncle Rob is going to furnish him with his brand new Epcot sports car :scratchin just kidding
That's so true. You're much better off burning off a FP rather than waiting it out just to get them used up. How weird is that?
it total weird....and unnatural.....and stupid. It goes against all rational and learned Disney touring education.....
I think while I do love Future World, I'm finding more and more that is it becoming the place I kill time until World Showcase opens. So YAY World Showcase!!!
yes it totally is and I agree. but I still love Epcot so much:p

Mexico and Norway

It was now 11am and we were Mexico bound! We made it just as they were doing the opening ceremonies. I don't remember too much about what happened other then thinking "cool I didn't know that they did this" and then we were allowed to enter the pyramid lol.

The first thing we did was head for the boats on Gran Fiesta. It's all about priorities people and you know how insane rope drop can be at this ride at 11am. Please note the sarcasm in my last statement. I would feel terrible if anyone read this and thought this was imperative to hit this ride first thing due to the crowds, especially in September.

We boarded our near empty boat and were on our way. Since I have now had the pleasure of riding the original POTC in Disneyland I see how much the beginning of this ride reminds me of that , and Blue Bayou….I miss Disney right now….makes me sad.

All aboard an authentic Mexican boat ride folks. Hopefully Disney will not decide to also turn this dated yet very classic ride into Frozen theme…..

It's like It's a Small World….yet different
We enjoyed our relaxing boat ride through Mexico City and then departed and headed out of the building but first…

One must always have some members of their party take an embarrassing picture wearing an oversized sombrero…..it's just natural here.

And one more for good measure without the hats

And again just because my kids are in one of those rare we actually are getting along and this only happens in Disney so mom wants to capture it in all of its glory moments picture.
Okay so then we did move on to Norway I promise!

The first thing we this time, when we arrived in Norway, was go into the stave church. This was a first for us and we usually pass right by and head to Maelstrom but not today! For this was a trip for new experiences!! And I wanted to get in touch with my Scandinavian roots since I had found out this past year that I am almost half Viking myself.
We went, we saw. That's that.

Now it was time for Maelstrom!! And lol we had a fastpass plus too!! I wanted to make sure that there was nothing standing in the way of us and this ride today.

For I am sad to say that is it no longer to be the one and only Maelstrom that we have all come to know and love. But I will not continue to be bitter, no no, I will move on like with every other great idea that Disney comes up with like fastpass plus…..anyways
But I will say that it is not just me and every other adult Disney geek out there who is saddened or upset about Maelstrom's passing. For it has effected children too. Yes it's true. Both of my kids were upset that this would be the last time to ride the original including Frozen fanatic Sydney. We will always have our memories Maelstrom….RIP old friend.

Speaking of which we will also always hold a special place in our hearts for creepy fish gutting serial killer kid and his disturbing obvious enjoyment of the demise of that fish. Seriously kid you creep me out year after year as I board my Viking boat.

And you scary tree spirit troll creature who played a part in us almost falling over the edge of the waterfall year after year….I had many disturbing nightmares as a teen with you and your troll friends, and the equally not so scary but very loud polar bear. You will be missed.
We made our last plunge down and once again….survived. But this time is was close call. I thought that we might not make it there for a moment this time.

We took a moment to enjoy the exit part of this ride. I have always liked the set up of the Norwegian town. Then we made our way around the movie part that they try to lure you into staying for. Last time or not this movie stinks and I so I did not feel bad for paying homage to this lol. I hope that this part got a frozen refurbishment. My luck I will return next year to find that the entire ride has been changed over to frozen and we will exit to find that the only part of the experience that they left original is this dang movie lol!
