There's always room for dessert! - 8 days of DxDP -updated 4/12 Sci-Fi

Subbing! Love your photos and lovely reviews so far!! :thumbsup2 Can't wait for more!! popcorn::

Hi there! Joining late but definitely enjoying your beautiful photos and review. I was sad to cancel Rose & Crown on our last trip but I definitely want to try it in the future. So far, I'm tracking with all of your other ADRs and comparing notes since we've tried them as well. :)

Great job!

My next review is what many people consider a must do I think on their trips, The 50's Prime Time Cafe! I was extremely excited about eatting here. We hadn't tried many places in Hollywood before this trip simply because of lack of appeal to us. But, in our efforts to eat every where at least once, it was time to try this place out! I had eatten here long ago when I went to DW with my family as a child, but this was Chuck's first experience. He wasn't too thrilled with the menu, as he thinks it's something he could get at home.

So we arrived and checked in a few minutes early. We were starving, and it was hot. There was no one waiting basically, but we sat and waited in the lobby. We didn't wait too long before we were scooted off to our table. The room we were placed in was very busy and crowded. We were next to a table with about 6 kids. They were very noisy, but you could tell they were having a blast. ::yes::

I don't remember our waiters name unfortunately. He was nice enough, but very rushed and a little forgetful. He explained since we were on the dinning plan I could get a shake AND a dessert. So I got this yummy Strawberry Milkshake. This was probably my favorite part of the meal. It was cold, and thick, and delicious.

We waited for quite awhile until our server came back to order. We ordered my shake, the appetizers, and the entrees all at once....which is what we usually do to be honest. Then we waited some more. Suddenly our entrees came out. Entrees? you might say....did you skip the apps? No, we did not. They simply came out after our entrees....way after. When our main meals were delivered we asked about the entrees, and the server, who wasn't our guy, said he'd check on them. They came out about 5 minutes later. Another 15 minutes later our server came out to apologize and blame the chef. I realize it could have been the chef's fault, but I found it unprofessional to try to place blame. Just apologize.

Fried Herb and Garlic Cheese 7.99
JRUVrj0l.jpg

DH got the fried cheese. It was ok. It was cold. Not that hooey gooey cheesiness you love from fried cheese.

Beer-battered Onion Rings
and Horseradish Sauce 6.49

vgwXMt4l.jpg

I ordered the onion rings. I'd read lots of good things about these and I love me some onion rings! I loved the presentation. I thought it was super cute to come out in its own little basket. But they were cold! And mushy! :sad2:

A Sampling of Mom's Favorite Recipes
Crispy-fried Chicken, Fork Tender Pot Roast, and Traditional Meatloaf with all the fixings 20.99

k3n7hSil.jpg

Chuck decided the best way to sample things was to get the sampler! Even though this came out before our apps, it was cold. He ate a little of everything, but didn't finish anything. He said that the chicken was ok, but he wouldn't order this again.

Cousin Ann's Traditional Meatloaf
Blend of Beef and Pork topped with Tomato Glaze served with Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans 15.99

nIjq8UTl.jpg

Mine was cold as well. i think I would have really enjoyed the meatloaf, as I normally love the stuff, if it would have been hot.

We chose not to send our food back since we had been waiting long enough and were anxious to get back out to the park for our Toy Story fast passes!

S'mores 4.99
xgj76OSl.jpg

We each got a S'mores and waited some more for it to come out. Sadly, I think I was too grumpy to enjoy this treat. I'd been looking forward to it for months! DH really enjoyed his though.

I'd also like to note, that in all the reviews I've read, and I remember some from when I went as a child, the atmosphere is supposed to be amazing. We got none of the 50's charm I've read about. Nothing. No veggies with whip cream, no questions about the soap in the bathroom, not even a joke or anything. It was really lacking for me. We won't be eating here again anytime soon. I'm sorry to disappoint all of you 50's fans out there! Our experience was just not up to par at all.

Wow. Sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience at 50s. Serving cold food is just wrong!! I agree with you on the professionalism. Don't assign blame; just apologize.

I've never had a bad experience at 50s. Sometimes I've had servers that were really into the role and others that weren't. Now that 50s is off your list, maybe you can try Sci-Fi on your next trip!

Oh what a disappointment! I dined there solo in May and had a GREAT experience. My first trip for our 5year anniversary not so much though. That trip our server was not into his role at all. In May I had Cousin Quinn and she was awesome! Both times the food was good though! I love me some fried chicken!!

What a bummer w/ cold food. We were there last October & had Marnie as our waitress & she was awesome! Sorry about your experience.

We also did not have the best experience when we were there in June. My sampler platter was cold and my meatloaf had some nasty hard thing in it. Our server was okay. Nothing great but not terrible. He wasn't really fun though.

We decided to try Via Napoli on one of our Epcot days. I'd read lots of reviews, and we love Italian food. This seemed like the place to go. We decided just to do a lunch, since we were trying to do 2 credit TS places for dinner, and Via Napoli is only a 1 credit.

We had one of the earliest reservations for lunch. When we arrived they weren't open just yet. We were quickly seated though at an adorable two top table near the door to the outside seating, so we had a nice view of the flowers. Here's a photo I put on instagram that day. :)

Our waiter was wonderful. My husband is Italian, so we have an Italian last name. The waiter recognized it immediately and started asking what part of Italy we were from, in his sexy Italian accent. It was great. :lovestruc

We were brought out some warm bread and oil, which was super yummy. The bread was warm, soft, and fresh.

Prosciutto e Melone
prosciutto di parma, canteloupe. 9.00

EldnzUYl.jpg

I decided to try the melon this time, since Chuck loved when he got this at Tony's. I will say while it was yummy and fresh, I did like Tony's better. I think because it had the balsamic sauce. This was still good though!

Arancini
fried risotto balls filled with mozzarella & meat ragù. 11.00

EayRycYl.jpg

This was Chuck's appetizer. They were delicious. Thankfully he let me try a bite.Just little balls full of yum!

I cannot find the pizza I got on the menu, but it was a margarita pizza. We decided one of us really needed to try a pizza here. It. Was. AmAzing. I loved it. It was super good, and I could eat it every day.

Piatta Alla Parmigiana - Vitello
traditional preparation with tomato sauce, parmesan & mozzarella, veal, served with roasted potatoes. 29.00

UGTFmJ7l.jpg

Chuck decided, at the recommendation of our waiter, to try veal for the first time. It was very good and DH really enjoyed it. The tomato sauce was really good too, and tasted homemade.

Tiramisu
Mascarpone cream, espresso coffee, lady fingers and chocolate. 9.00

yUiSNUWl.jpg

Since I love tiramisu I had to try it. It was really good. I think there's was better than Tony's. I ate every bit.

Zeppole di Caterina
Ricotta cheese fritters, served with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. 10.00

MjgUnryl.jpg

DH got this fun treat. Usually when I see desserts like this they have a caramel sauce instead of whip cream...well I don't care for caramel much. So I loved it with the whip cream. The chocolate sauce was heavenly. I would get this over the tiramisu any day. IT WAS THAT GOOD!

So, our overall impressions of Via Napoli? Amazing! DH loved this place so much. He wants to make sure I have an ADR there for our upcoming trip. I wouldn't hesitate to ever eat here for dinner or lunch. Great service, great atmosphere, and great food.

Via Napolli has to be my FAVORITE non-signature restaurant! I just LOVE it!! The Pizza is awesome and the Zeppole's!! YUMM!! Okay.. drooling now.. 2 weeks till we eat there!!

That looks delicious! Ahh, I can't convince my boyfriend to go there for dinner, but if we were on the DxDDP, I'd HAVE to go there for lunch!

Hi. :) I am enjoying your trip report. I love all of the yummy pictures. I can't wait to read the rest.:thumbsup2

That's too bad about your crummy 50's PT lunch. Cold food and timing of the courses would not be acceptable. We had apps brought out when our entrees were one time and I returned them (not at 50's but at Sci-Fi.)

Via Napoli is definitely a favorite of ours. Love the pizza and those zeppole's are so tasty! I'm glad they serve the whip cream since I don't like the chocolate. :)

Beautiful photos!

Thank you all for your awesome words about my reviews and pictures! I really appreciate that!!! :)

So let's talk about Sanaa! This was another place I had been begging DH to eat at. I'd always seen delicious looking photos and heard great things about this place, but going to the AKL seemed like such a waste of time for us. But since we had the car this time, it would be easy to get to, and it was! So we went one day for lunch.

Lh1W3vfl.jpg

The place was very empty when we got there, and only had a few people there when we left about an hour later. It made me wonder why I had such a hard time getting an ADR for it. The guy at the counter was earning his ears and being trained. He gave us a buzzer even though no one was in line. Our hostess giggled about it and teased him.

Our waiter was super nice and helpful. He made awesome recommendations to help us get the most out of the dinning plan. He was great.

Indian-style Bread Service
Choice of Three Breads - Traditional Naan, Garlic-Ginger Naan, Spiced Naan, Onion Kucha, or Pappadum. Choice of Three Accompaniments - Red Chile Sambal, Cucumber Raita, Coriander Chutney, Mango Chutney, Coconut Chutney, Garlic Pickle, Spicy Jalapeño-Lime Pickle, Roasted Red Bell Pepper Hummus, or Tamarind Chutney 9.99

Appetizer Sampler for Two 14.99
-Potato and Pea Samosas, Lamb Kefta, and Roasted Cauliflower

Q8qispPl.jpg

Alright first lets talk about the bread. Amazing. I could get this everyday. We went with the Roasted Red Bell pepper Hummus, Garlic Pickle, and i think the green one was the Coriander Chutney. Chuck really liked the humus one even though he never eats it at home. :rotfl: I really enjoyed the garlic one. All the breads were yummy.

The sampler was very good as well. I hate cauliflower, but I really enjoyed it for once! It was spicy too! The lamb was good, but I didn't eat all of mine. I didn't particularly love the Samosas, but it was nice to get a taste of different varieties of food and try new things.

Slow-cooked in Gravy, Simple and Well-seasoned
Choice of Two: Butter Chicken, Spicy Durban Chicken or Shrimp, Sustainable Fish with Goan Curry, or Beef Short Ribs served with Basmati Rice or Five-Grain Pilaf 21.99

2QAFP0Xl.jpg

VkC6HlMl.jpg

We both got this. I got the Short Ribs and Spicy Durban Shrimp with basmati Rice. I loved the short ribs. The shrimp were OK for me, but DH loved them. He wished he would have gotten them instead of the buttered chicken he got with his short ribs.

Dessert Trio
Tanzanian Chocolate Mousse, Coconut Cheesecake, and Chai Cream 6.99

w4w278Nl.jpg

We both got the same dessert as well. According to the description on Disney's site this is a little different now. The Chocolate was a little cake, and the Cheesecake was some sort of berry instead of coconut. But the import thing is still there. The Chai Cream. Oooohhh yeah. This little cup of heaven, was delightful. I even traded some cheesecake with DH for the rest of his! So yummy!

Overall Sanaa was a good experience. We saw some animals through a window too while we were eating. Zebras if I remember correctly. The food was good and the service was good as well. I'd eat here again, but probably not every trip due to the location. It's definitely a place I'd need to be in the mood to eat at too.
