There's always room for dessert! - 8 days of DxDP -updated 4/12 Sci-Fi

Great start! :thumbsup2

Sounds like a smart idea to do lunch at Tony's as, for the amount of food you got, the prices seemed pretty good

Joining in!

Loved your Tony's review. And the food looked really great. That place seems to get such negative reviews, but your pics make it look delicious. I'm glad that it lived up to the way it looked!

Thanks so much on your compliment son my photos! I tried super hard to get good pictures of the food for y'all. :)

I'm glad you guys like my Tony's review. I'm typing up Monsieur Paul's right this minute and will have it posted soon!

The next night we ate at Monsieur Paul's! We couldn't pass on this one since it was newly redone and renovated. On one of our previous trips we had eaten at Bistro de France and I had the best meal of my life, I was hoping that MP would live up to my previous experience.

We were seating almost exactly where we had been previously, at on of the two seaters with a window. I liked the view. It was good for people watching. We waited a very long time for our waiter to come, he took our drink order, but never brought our water the whole meal. The service was incredibly slow so eventually we stopped asking.

Soupe aux truffes V.G.E. - Beef broth, oxtail, vegetables, black winter truffle, puff pastry $29.00

This was my appetizer. It. Was. Amazing. I could have eaten this every meal for the entire trip. The pastry was soft and flaky, and the broth inside was super flavorful. I was in heaven.

Now I didn't take a picture of Chuck's appetizer, because I got the larger portion for my main meal. When we went to Bistro de Paris, their lobster dish was amazing. I'd been dreaming about it and was excited because I thought they had it on their menu at MP. Turns out it was a different lobster dish.

I really didn't like it at all. The lobster seemed overcooked, and the dish came out pretty cold. Looking at their menu now though, it looks like they have the original dish there now.

Filet de boeuf grillé forestier, purée de pomme de terre, sauce Bordelaise
Grilled beef tenderloin with mushroom crust, mashed potato, Bordelaise sauce

Chuck's steak came out well done, except he ordered it medium rare. So he ended up sending it back. Around this time we noticed that people around us were getting cranky due to long waits, and others were sending food back as well. The manager brought the steak back out to Chuck and it was cooked fine. It wasn't his favorite steak of the trip but he said it was ok. He could have done without the sauce.

These foamy mashed potatoes came with the steak. Chuck said these were the best thing of his whole meal. I tasted them and they were delicious.

Le moelleux
Warm chocolate and almond cake with rapsberry coulis in the center, hazelnut crust, hazelnut ice cream 13.00

This was DH's dessert. The cake was delicious.

I can't find this on the current menu either, but it was a lemon souffle. I'd been looking forward to this as well. I love souffle, but hardly ever had the opportunity to have it. The waiter informed me that it would be a 20 minute wait, and I was prepared for this. So that was fine. But it ended up being about a 40 min wait. He brought out mine as well as one for the lady next to us at the same time. They looked like this immediately, and I knew something was wrong since it was puffed up. I poked it with a spoon and it was all liquidy and soupy inside. The lady next to us sent hers back. I simply didn't eat mine. The waiter offered to redo it or get me something else, but we were ready to go by this time. We'd been in here for almost 2 hours, and wanted to enjoy Epcot!

All in all I was extremely disappointed with Monsieur Pauls. I know they were just open and there are kinks, but the service was far too slow, and the food was not worth the price had we been paying OOP. It wasn't even worth the 2 credits we used from our plan. I'm tempted to go back again, but only because I see the lobster dish I love is on the menu again! :rotfl:

So I posted this update last night but it seems it didn't take for some reason, so I get to do it again! :)

I had been wanting to try Artist Point for awhile now, but The Wilderness Lodge was a little out of our way in the past. This year we had driven to WDW, so it made it easier to try places at some of the resorts. So I talked him into going this trip, and we were not disappointed.

We were one of the first reservations of the night. When we got there they weren't even open yet, but we had a nice conversation with another fellow waiting, who was also from Texas and disliked the same route that we took to Florida. It didn't take long for us to get seated, and our hostess was also our waitress. She was very nice and we had good service the entire meal. We were seated all the way in back of the dinning room.

Smokey Portobello Soup
with Roasted Shiitakes, Chive Oil, and Sourdough Croutons 10.00

One of use had to get the mushroom soup, I mean I read all about it on every Artist Point review on here! Since Chuck wanted to, and doesn't normally show excitement in anything other than steak, I let him have it. :) But not without me tasting it! And it was everything I'd heard about and dreamed of!

Confit Natural Bacon
Sunny-side Up Quail Egg, Chow Mein Noodles, and Blood Orange Glaze 12.00

AGOZEHdl.jpg

Since I had been planing on the mushroom soup, but wanted to make sure Chuck and I tried different things, I had to figure something else out. I went with the confit and it was the right choice. This was amazing! It was so tender. I would definitely get this again.

Slow-roasted 64° Buffalo Strip Steak
Foraged Mushroom-Fingerling Potato Hash and Rainier Cherry Reduction 43.00

bPqHBKjl.jpg

Instead of regular steak, Chuck decided to try buffalo! He said it was good. Not bad, but nothing to right home about. But the potatoes were delicious.

Wild Columbia River Cedar Plank-roasted King Salmon
Rainbow Cauliflower, Root Spinach, Lemon-Butter Sauce, Applewood-smoked Bacon Jam, and Short Rib Strudel 39.00

EU38tYDl.jpg

I love salmon, so of course I had to get this. It was amazing. The salmon melted in my mouth, and was perfectly cooked. The brought it out still on the cedar plank too. I even enjoyed the cauliflower, which I normally cannot stand.

I also got this wine flight that was recommended with the salmon.

Vanilla Bean Créme Brûlée
with Chocolate-Hazelnut Biscotti 10.00

DH wasn't extremely happy with the dessert options, so he went with my usual standby creme brulee. He really enjoyed it though.

Artist Point Cobbler
with Seasonal Berries and House-made Black Raspberry ice Cream 11.00

Of course one of us had to get the cobbler. Since Chuck isn't a big berry person I opted to...plus I'd been looking forward to it. It was perfect. The cobbler was hot and ice cream wasn't melted at all yet when they brought it out. It had the perfect amount of berries on top. It was delightful. It was perfect.

So if you can't tell, we enjoyed Artist Point. I already want to go back. The service was great, and the meal didn't take as long as we thought. They may be in part because we were one of the first people there. It's for sure a repeat for us though. :thumbsup2

Aaahhh it's been so long! Where did the time go?! Well here I am with an update. I apologize for my absence!

Next up is Rose and Crown! We'd been very anxious to try eatting here. I've never read anything bad about this place, so it must be good, right? We decided to try lunch here, though I think I'd really like to try dinner here. We actually had a later ADR than normal for us. But, we were in the area, and we were hungry, so we went and checked if they could seat us now. Turns out they could have us in about 20 minutes! Great! I'm always amazed at all the people that do walk ups and get mad when they are turned away. Get some ADRs people! Or don't be mad. Ok...I'm done. :)

GYZG3zWl.jpg

We were seated right near the door and we had a lovely waitress. I don't really like the table we had. It was one of those half booth half chairs tables. And it had some weird legs/side, that made it so you had to pull it out to get into the booth, and then pull it back towards you so it wasn't a mile away. We were also extremely close to the table next to us. But they were nice folks. :)

I knew right away what I wanted for my appetizer....as I do at most places because I stalk the food forums here! :rotfl:

Scotch Egg
Golden-fried Hard-boiled Egg wrapped in Sausage Meat with Mustard Sauce 9.49

6IWzmEyl.jpg

This was so yummy. I love mustard so the sauce was perfect for me. Dh was jealous he didn't get this. He want's to go back just to order this. :thumbsup2

Roasted Sea Scallops
with Spinach Pesto, Tomato, and Olive Vinaigrette 10.99

woa73Eul.jpg

Chuck got the scallops. He was a little disappointed in them. He said they were really good, but her was hungry! And 3 dainty little scallops weren't cutting it!

Fish and Chips
“Rose & Crown’s Signature Dish” Beer-battered and served with House-made Tartar Sauce 18.99

adts0pDl.jpg

I decided to get the fish and chips. I later got fish and chips at Ragland Road because our waitress told us Rose and Crowns were superior. She was right! Delicious! She also said we could get the same fish and chips at the CS place right outside! Good to know!

Farmhouse Ploughman's Lunch
Carved Ham, Cheese, Roast Chicken, Egg, and Traditional English Accompaniments 17.99

nFoCduDl.jpg

This was Chuck's outgoing choice...it turned out to be the wrong choice. :sad2: I think it thought it'd be more of a hot dish and instead it was a cold dish. He didn't like it at all, but it's not a traditional Chuck dish. He did enjoy some of my fish!

Sticky Toffee Pudding 5.49
AvInkO8l.jpg

Since I was getting a meal with all the online favs, I couldn't NOT get the Sticky Toffee Pudding! It was super yummy and I wasn't disappointed. I even shared some with DH.

Cheesecake with Mocha Cream and Caramelized Banana 3.99
Yriqmx0l.jpg

Chuck got the cheesecake. It was OK he said, but he wasn't impressed by it. I liked the Mocha Cream. It's not a big coffee type flavor person, so that's probably why. I thought it was a yummy dessert, especially the banana. :)

I really loved this place, but I would stick to the "fan favorites" and the staples when eating here. Chuck and I had very different experiences because I did, and he did not. We'd definitely go here again. :thumbsup2

HI there, Joining in :) I have an ADR for dinner at Rose and Crown in October. Can not wait to try the toffee pudding!! The scotch egg looks really good too. -Amanda princess:

Thanks for the great reviews. DH and I ate at Tony's on our first trip to WDW in 2010. We liked the food, my DH even asked to have his lasagna served on the Mickey shaped plates they use for the kids. We both also liked Rose and Crown, the Fish and Chips were super yummy.
We too like the convienience of DxDP, we get it everytime and while it is a lot of food it allows us to try some things we normally would not. We leave in 49 days and I cannot wait.:cool1:

Really enjoying your reviews, looking forward to the next instalment! :thumbsup2

I also got this wine flight that was recommended with the salmon.

Enjoying all your reviews and glad to see you enjoyed Artist Point

I was intrigued by this wine flight pairing as you don't normally see red wine flights for fish - did it go well?

Also, perhaps just the picture, but those look like pretty healthy pours!

I actually didn't care for the pairing. Only one of the wines went kinda well with the entrees. I was surprised they were red as well, but I'd never done a pairing before so decided to try it anyways. I would not get it again. DH ended drinking half of it because it went better with his entree.

I really enjoyed reading your dining reviews and looking at the photos...
we liked Tony's too, even tho at the time reviews of Tony's said it sucked.

I'm somewhat aghast at the current prices, but glad you posted them!

enjoying your reviews, specially Rose and Crown.. I'm really confused though, I've looked at the menus on here and allears and don't see the cheesecake with mocha cream, it looks yummy! The scotch egg looks good, now that I've seen your pic, really thinking of getting this!

Hi There! I understand getting behind on your reports.. I'm still working on mine since last October lol!

I would love to try that scotch egg! I was excited that it was going to be offered at the F&W Scotland booth but then they changed it to Veggie Haggis! :rotfl: Not going for that!

I was also surprised on the red wine with the salmon. Normally you see White with Fish!

Sad about Monsieur Paul. I had thought about booking it but we will be going there for a French Regional lunch so figured that will have to do!

I don't think he cheesecake is on their menu right now. I had to hunt down the price when I posted the review for it. :(
