There are times we wonder about God's intervention

OMG I think I started a debate. :earseek: I didn't know I even knew how. :rotfl2: I just thought it was a nice story and would make people feel good, hope I didn't offend anyone.

I guess I just felt like no matter how bad things seem there is always someone out there who might be even worse off or just doing something spontaneous out of your heart can make you feel so good.

Don't hate me because I started something.

Sure, now. Just wait.

And so what if a gaggle of believers does show up? I don't really see how pushing your anti-religion agenda is any different from them pushing a religious agenda. You seem to be so against the latter, but all about the former.

Last I heard you know a thing or two about targeting threads based on the title or who posts in them as well. :)

Usually I have some idea of what people are talking about, but I honestly have to claim ignorance on this one, sorry. :)

I just enjoy this type of story sometimes. It doesn't have to involve anything religious but it can too. I don't see what the big deal is.

Just commenting on the reaction to my posting on this thread. Never fails to make me chuckle when somebody points out who posts on what threads. Unless somebody is using the search tool, people see other people on the same threads because they BOTH tend to read the same threads.

I think it's a nice story and whether that particular account actually happened, I don't know. However, random acts of kindness take place all the time and our world is a better place for it. If for nothing else it serves as an example of how we should not completely focus on our own misfortune but rather recognize that there are others who are in more trying circumstances and could use a little bit of kindness. Helps put things in perspective. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't really matter whether it's "bogus" or not, it teaches a lesson and I think that is what the OP intended. Thanks for posting :)

No matter how silly people think the movie was, I loved Pay it Forward and the message the movie contained. It would be wonderful if everybody paid it forward.

I think the story is great. I was just commenting on how it's similar to the stories most of us have received via email.

You are correct it was an email that I received from a friend and I automatically thought of my DIS friends. Never thought about wether it was real or not, guess I just want to believe it. We hear so much bad that it's nice to hear something good. Actually most of my stories come through email even the funny ones. Of course my family alone can do the funny ones (2 6 year olds, anything can happen). :earseek:

I hope that you have a great day!

Or one of those bogus emails that places like snopes are always proving to be complete fiction.
A pessimist to the end, I see...how's that half-empty glass?

Perfect summation!

This is totally OT, but this isn't a very nice place. Someone posts a nice story and people start to argue. I answered another thread and get attacked. Wow! I'm shocked. I think people here need a reality check.

All in all, it was a nice story true or not, thanks for sharing.

I think it was a great story, whether or not it was true, it makes you think (or at least it does me  ) on how there really are people out there whose lives would really be touched by some simple actions such as those.

As far as the intervention of God, yes, I believe God can intervene in things. So what?

I guess the gaggle is now showing up Cardaway, huh? It really hurts that people constantly get attacked by certain posters because they believe in God. No one is saying you (you in a generic sense) have to believe in God. What is so wrong with people professing their faith?

I think it was a lovely story and a reminder about how we all can make an impact on someone's life. Does God intervene? Yes, I believe He does through his Children and through other spiritual means.

It is a sweet story, I'll give you that, but if the intent is to encourage kindness in this sad world of ours I don't think it works very well.
Some of the most God fearing people show tremendous cruelty towards their brothers, probably right after reading stories like this in their Readers Digests. I don't really *believe* stories like this, but I wish I could. It does make for a nice fable.

Now if someone could write this same story without adding the religious aspects that would be cool and much more believable IMHO.

By the way, I believe in God AND the power of prayer and all that other jazz so this isn't coming from a heathen. :earboy2:

p.s. Someone called me cynical the other day? Do ya THINK? :rotfl2:

You're quick!! Usually it takes people at least a week to figure that out. ;) :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

It hurts to be on the other end too, or does that count?

And I see you've joined the group that comes after me. :( :confused3

I said nothing of the kind in this thread but everybody is responding like I did. I'm not going to accept responsibility for things I didn't say.

Same thing happened in he 1,9999 thread, and you were there doing the same to me in that thread too. :( :confused3

I haven't joined any side. I am always floating around somewhere in the middle. my gaggle comment was because of this:
I have to keep up with the rest of the large group that always shows up on those threads.
The rest wasn't really meant toward YOU in particular. I can understand someone not believing in God. I don't understand why people have to say that others believing is wrong, that because a story mentions God in it, it must be fiction. I guess I just a have a bad taste in my mouth cuz I was reviewing another thread yesterday and saw believers being called idiots.

As for the 1,999 thread, I was just expressing that I thought it wasn't the best thing to say to people who have spouses serving, that's all. It wasn't personal. It's one thing to be against a war, it's another not to be supporting of military members and their families.

I don't understand why people have to say that others believing is wrong

for the same reason that (some) religious people tell non-believers they are going to hell or that they need to accept jesus into their lives.

it's what we believe.

honestly - it is my opinion that people who believe in god are deluded. if the topic comes up, i'm not going to lie about my belief, just as i would not expect a christian to lie if i asked them if they thought i was going to hell.
