There are times we wonder about God's intervention

But all those shots you have taken at me we're just fine I'm sure. If that came from a third party it might just mean something.
:confused3 I sincerely apologize for any "shots" I've taken at you. I do not recall doing this, but if you say I have, then I'll take your word for it. I am well aware that when one points fingers there are usually 3 fingers pointed back at oneself. So it's quite probable that I need to do more practicing of what I'm preaching.

Believe it our not but I am sitting here crying because I feel like a monster. People are being so ugly and I didn't mean for this to happen. You can go back through anything I have ever posted and most of them are just to make people laugh and feel good if only for a few minutes.

I am going to email the moderators and ask them to close this post.

I am so sorry.
Oh sweetie, don't cry. It was a beautiful post. I think there is something more going on here between posters who have a past history with each other.

Deluded...that's good to know.

I would NEVER say that someone who didn't believe in God was delusional.

Caity, I have always thought highly of you, and I have to say that personally hurt me. I don't see my behavior as delusional. And really it's not up to me to say who is going to hell or not. I have never once told my friends who do not believe the same way I do that they are going to hell (yes Hokie feel free to jump in here and rip me apart for not being a real Christian).

This was a real eye-opener. Thanks. :(
I won't rip you apart for saying that. I don't believe for a second that people go to hell for not believing exactly as I do. I do believe that there is only one reason that people will go to hell. I don't send them there - I don't have that power. But I believe that God sends them there, according to the Bible, if they don't believe. However, if asked if I think a person is going to hell based on beliefs they state to me, if I believe those beliefs aren't true to salvation according to the Bible, I will let them know that, no problem. Why would I shy away from that?

Okay, you made me laugh. Come on down, I live out in the country and you know how we are, eveyone is welcome. You just have to put up with 3 adults, 2 six year olds, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and rabbit. Feel free to bring pets. :rotfl2:

Thanks all for the kind words.

beauty - i definitely respect others' beliefs. most of my relatives are deeply religious and i love and respect them very much. i do not try to force my beliefs on anyone EVER.

i am sure most christians think atheists are equally deluded. i don't think that's sad - it's just what they believe.

to the op: please don't cry. :grouphug:

No one cares to have their beliefs/opinions bashed.
i agree. the problem is when people on EITHER side take an expression of the other's beliefs to be bashing. i am not bashing anyone when i say to me god is a delusion. that is merely my belief.

How is my saying I believe in God a personal attack?
it's not - just like my saying god is a delusion is not a personal attack.

Geez people, get a grip. It was a nice story....can't you all just let it go at that and stop bickering with each other. This is one of the reasons that I really don't hang around here too much anymore. Not that anyone cares.
:confused3

OP, I would like to thank you for sharing your post. I hope it did not scare you away from making more. Sorry this thread took on a life of its own.

I believe what people take offense to is the word "delusion". Deluded is taken as an inflammatory word, no matter who says it about what subject. A delusion is a belief that is held in the presence of opposing facts. Just as a Christian I will admit that I cannot prove God exists, neither can anyone prove that He does not. Therefore, there are not opposing facts, and the belief is not a delusion. (But I am sure there are going to be people who are going to jump in and say they have facts, on both sides.)

I don't think anyone who doesn't believe in God is deluded. I just think they don't believe in God.

I only have one old cat and he's not too fond of dogs so I can't join you. But thanks for the post and don't let the bickering get to you. Some people just do that. :confused3

what word should i use to express my belief that god is a figment of human imagination? i do not think delusion has an extremely negative connotation. if i had said people who believe in god are crackpots or idiots something like that (which btw, i DO NOT believe), i could understand the offense, however delusion is defined as: a false belief or opinion.

it has nothing to do with facts. i would not for a second claim that i have proof that god doesn't exist, and anyone who knows me knows that i certainly do not believe otherwise. my faith is as deep as yours, we just have faith in different things. i believe that god is false, therefore people who believe that god is true are, in my opinion, deluded.

we are all deluded about something. some people are deluded that the one they love loves them back. others are deluded that their kid is not having sex/doing drugs/etc. i am probably deluded in believing that i will get into some of the schools i am currently applying to. ;)

i have a feeling that for most people, expression of my belief in god would be offensive no matter how carefully i phrased it.

the reverse is also true, which is why i no longer get upset when christians tell me i will be damned if i do not believe jesus dies for my sins. it is merely what they believe. it's not something to be offended by or upset about unless they say something like: "caitycaity is so stupid and i'm not listening to her anymore because she is a heathen." or something like that. an expression of belief on the face of it is not offensive. it's the intent behind it that makes the difference. i would assume most people who know me around here know that my intent is not offense.

He can stay in the house, because my 2 outdoor cats have totally cowed my inside dog. Your cat would have the run of the place. :rotfl2:

Caity, I am not trying to say anything about your intentions. I am just saying that people in general don't like being called delusional, no matter what the subject. As for a better word for delusion, I don't see what is wrong with simply using "belief". :confused3

To the OP, sweet story. From a happily "deluded" Christian. :sunny:

This was a sweet story. I don't care if it is true or not. It is a sweet story.

Please believe me when I say that life is way to short to argue about things like this :(

People who claim to speak to God get called delusional all the time, many times by people who believe in God.

So I guess it's OK to say you believe in God, just don't claim to actually speak to him. ;)

Actually, that would probably depend on whether Marilyn Monroe and Elvis were at the party, too.

because saying i do not believe in god does not fully represent what i believe. it's okay though. i have learned my lesson not to share. and i don't mean that in a bitter way. :sunny:

Hey caity! Just say we believe in "fairy tales like the easter bunny and santa claus" LOL

Sorry, i couldn't resist! :)
