So, my little New Years TR begins on Wed morning at 3 a.m. We had an 8 hour drive ahead of us and wanted to get an early start. We were on our way by 4 a.m. Kids in the car and ready to go. Well, actually, we had to make a visit to the bank and drop some $$ off at home. While on the way to the bank, youngest DD had to go to the bathroom. Better now then when we get on the road. DH brought her out to the car wrapped in her blanket, so we forgot her shoes. OF COURSE! Who needs shoes when you're going to a place that's 7 degrees? So we're on the road. I fall back asleep and DH is driving. Two hours later DH is ready to stop. He said that he was trying to stay awake and drive through a snow storm across Ohio and part of Indiana. So, we stop. Where is youngest DD coat? OH, at HOME! OF COURSE it is!! What a great place for a coat to be in the middle of the winter.

Well, we get to buy a new coat when we get to our destination.
My turn to drive now. I'm hearing on the radio that there is a stretch of road coming up that is really bad. It kept snowing on and off till almost the Indiana/Illinois border. DH woke up when we hit the sheet of ice that was supposed to be the road. Now, I'm not sure about you guys, but my DH RARELY lets me drive when we go on trips and especially through Chicago. So, the fact that I was driving on ice and getting ready to enter Chicago made me extra nervous. I had death grip on that steering wheel.
Whew we made it out of the danger zone and through Chicago in no time at all. We stopped and went potty, got some breakfast and changed drivers. We arrived in LaCrosse, WI at around 1 p.m. got some lunch and then went and met up aunts house to see my parents and my grandmother.
I spent the rest of the day and part of the night with my family and DH took the girls to DBIL house. My parents took me to a buffet for dinner that night and I have to say what fun we had. I had to laugh because I've never seen so many people in camoflauge, eating dinner in my life. At one point I said, "hey mom, can you see that guy over there? Me either, he's camoflauged." Another guy had on camo pants/bib overall things and I said that he was just a "floating head" because of all the camo below his neck.

It was pretty freakin funny!!! See, where we come from, it gets super cold and there are a lot of hunters. So, the hunters have to dress warm when you hunt. Therefore, why not wear your hunting gear out to eat when it's cold????
I said goodbye to my parents and grandma and spent New Years Eve with both BILs and SILs and our kids playing games and feeding our faces. SIL is a really good cook and made yummy homemade carmelt corn. Mmmm...
The next day we went to the mall to look for a specific game that DSIL wanted. No luck with that. But, we did find a different game called Aquire. You build hotels using tiles on a board and then buy stock in those hotels. There are mergers and selling of stock too. It's an o.k. game, a lot of the family loved it. Just not me. I prefer card games where I don't have to think a lot.
The kids went sledding and youngest DD put on her new coat. I bought it big enough so that it would fit her next year. I am not a big outdoors person, nor do I like the cold. Therefore, I do not and have not taken my kids sledding in, well, forever!!! I know, bad mommy. DD had a blast. There was a hill right across the street from DBIL house. I'll post pictures in the next installment.
That's all for now. I need to vacuum up the THOUSANDS of Christmas tree needles that fell from the tree when we took it down last night. Another year gone and closer to our trip.
