Theft at Pop Century

You'd think Walmart could at least cancel that card and give you $30 on a new one. Especially if you have the purchase receipt.
**
They did cancel the card and give us a new one with the $30.00 on it. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. I will have pleasure in knowing that the thief will try to spend it (dumb thief, not using it all up at once), and be told the card is empty. I had hoped they would tell her the card had been reported stolen, and cancelled, so she would be nervous, but they said they'll just tell her it's empty.

I did ask to speak to the manager on duty and they gave me security, instead. I might call back again, since this is the time of night it happened.

Oh shoot! So sorry to hear that happened.. :( Was wondering why you hadn't been posting since your return and actually thought about giving you a call to see if everyone was okay..

One thing I know for sure... If anyone at all can resolve this matter and have the appropriate action taken, I KNOW it's you! Keep us/me posted on what's happening and give me a call when things are settled down a bit..

I'm sooo sorry this happened to your family! what a bad way to start a trip! I would keep calling, and calling and calling untill they made it right!!! I would file a police report too!

Yeah, we were pretty disappointed. I leave my laptop hooked up, and have forever, and have never had a theft. My grandson is taking it better than we are..no magic lost for him. We just had too good of a time to let this ruin it. I decide I'll give them a few dates, and then persue it fiercly.
We didn't get in until really late last night, and it took some time on the phone with Disney this morning.

SW offered to let us change our flight at no extra cost, but couldn't get us out until Wednesday. So we took a chance, went to the airport (if the family wasn't there, we would have stayed LOL) and they left a bit late. They didn't know if we would get to Albany, but since the snow held off, here we are. Read about your car being totalled. Let me know if you need rides during the day, until you get one..we are always out and about.

Thanks! I'll do that..

You know, while I was visiting both my sister and my brother I was very concerned about my "emergency" cash that I brought with me.. I'm not sure why because they are both in very nice gated communities, but I was just uneasy about it so I carried it with me all the time.. Guess it doesn't matter how nice the property is, does it? :( Just seems to be twice as upsetting that it would happen on Disney property - you know?

Do stay on top of this with Disney. A few years ago we rented a convertible at the airport and checked into POFQ. We were called down to the front desk a few days later to be told that they had several vandalisms on the property the previous night. Our rental car was torched! I mean it burned right down to the steel frame of the seats. Disney would not take any responsibility. They wouldn't even drive us over to one of the other hotels in DTD to pick up another rental. Needless to say, we wrote saying our yearly visits were on hold as I didn't feel comfortable with the way they had handled the situation. After a few complaints, they paid the deductible we owed our insurance company. It was worth the effort!

What!! How in the world does something like this ( vandalism and burning cars) happen at Disney resorts??They have security gates and from what I can tell, you have to have a reason to be there or you dont get in. Although I guess someone could enter on foot thru the perimeter.
Hotels anywhere have crime, especially theft. Hotels do not spend money for security but crime such as vandalism and torching cars?? Jees!! I always feel safer at Disney resorts than at other resorts anywhere else. Although I do use common sense when staying on property but jees!

All you have to say is, that you want to look around the resort, you show your license and in you go. If you have the white sheet of paper showing you are a resort guest, no ID is needed.

Call the front desk, and demand to speak to the Duty Manager. Depenend that the problem will solved. It said to say but Disney will fix the problem if shout and yell at them enough. Bye the way let me know who the Duty Manager was if you call.

Unrelated, but just a comment. I've read on another post about where the mousekeepers will be cleaning several rooms at the same time and will leave rooms unlocked while they are in a room close by. I know for a fact, that not all the rooms even get locked back. We stayed at the WL in January and one night when we came back from the park noticed that our room was not closed all the way and had been propped open with a small piece of wood. We hesitated a moment, but then walked in. No one was there and nothing (thankfully) was missing. I called the front desk immediately and the CM apologized and just said housekeeping must have forgot to lock it and if we found anything missing to call back. I'm making a solo trip in May and if I come back to find my door unlocked, I'll be calling security to come into the room with me.

>>> my grandson gave his wallet to his mom ...
Your daughter owes her son $105 in extra allowance.

>>> Wal-Mart wouldn't let you see the security tapes
In case of credit card fraud, Wal-Mart will be charged back and is out the merchandise. They may or may not at their option review the security tapes to try to recover from the crook.

>>> door propped open with a piece of wood
You may well be advised to have a CM come to the room and escort you in, just in case someone is still inside. Also when complaining, ask for something, perhaps as small as some extra fastpasses or complimentary ice cream or snacks.

Disney hints:

If a store accidentally makes a mistake in my favor, whether or not I show honesty and bring it to their attention depends on how the store has treated me in the past.

Yes, that was never a question, and it's been taken care of, although this sweet boy said "that's ok mommy, it wasn't your fault either, she shouldn't have stolen from our room" (that's the cutie in my sig). This was not about if grandson was blamed or his mother. It was about that they knew the wallet had been in the room.

This is not credit card fraud. They didn't steal a credit card, but a gift card. They are not considered the same. I suppose we could file a police report and make the police go through tapes (if they even still have them, or if they ever did) for the $20 some dollars spent on the card, but first we'll see what Disney does. Somehow I don't think the police would be that interested.

Wouldn't many then start proping their doors open to see if they get something extra if Disney started doing that?

I don't know what this means. Walmart treated us fine..they were under no obligation to even give us back what was lost, and it took some work on their part. I appreciate them very much. Even if they hadn't, if I was overcharged, I would bring it to their attention.

DMRick...I'm so sorry this happened. We try to not use the safe but that's only since I'm always afraid I'll lose the key. Sure am glad now. Anyone else get tired of Disney telling us to just have our homeowners policy take care of these things?? It sure would be nice if Disney took some responsibility here. I know that if I have something taken from my room while in WDW, I will be reporting it to Disney and the police dept. Sorry Disney but I'm paying you a lot of money to take care of me and my family. No way am I going to take the responsibility for your employees' theft. Seems to be a lot of that going on lately.

Doris, I'd file a police report. I doubt it'll do anything to help you but if Disney gets too many police reports they may have to something to improve security.

I am so sorry this has happened to you and your family.
If the Manager of POP just turned it over to Security I would go higher than him. Start contacting other people higher up. Disney does not want word of people being robbed while on Disney Property. Just bad for the image.

Oh, I forgot, if you do NOT want your room cleaned, put out the "Do Not Disturb" sign in they key slot, they will leave you a bag of toiletries and towels. I sometimes do this if I come in late in the afternoon, for the next day, cause I don't dirty the room that quick. Also, if DH is with me, I do it, as he leaves some stuff in the room.

Whoa! I ALWAYS leave my cash *hidden* in the room! How foolish of me to trust housekeeping! From now on I'll be using the safe AND putting the "do not disturb" sign on the door. I'd far rather schlep down to the main desk for clean towels than lose $200-$400! Sorry this happened to you, but thanks for helping me avoid such a loss!

Hmm..funny you should mention that. I actually called down on one of our days and asked to have towels hung on our door (like they often do) because the computer was set up. Told them we did not need the room cleaned. I left our wet towels outside our door. I had the do not disturb thingy in the door, but when we got back, the towels were on the bed. It bothered me just a tad, but I thought, well, maybe they misunderstood me.

Lewis, that is on our agenda. Disney actually suggested it, in the last phone call, as it's a criminal case.

Hey there! How's it going today? I sure hope you can get some satisfaction and I agree that this is a "criminal" case.. If it was an employee, then they need to ferret out who it was and can them..

I know it's naive, but the last place in the world that I would expect anyone to steal from me would be in one of the Disney Resorts.. :(

DMRick,
At most hotels (I can't imagine Disney WOULDN'T do this) they have maintenence logs that must be filled out with the time, date and kind of maintenence required for any room, no matter how small the job. I would find out if there was a log entry for your room and have this help with the proof you already have. Maybe that will cue the thief to fess up. Good luck.

Just thought I'd share another thread that was posted on the Community board. Mousekeeping theft thread.

It's VERY interesting. She was at POP CENTURY!!!!! She did file a police report. She also found out through lock interrogation (who opened the room, what time & for how long) that this certain mousekeeper had, in fact, been in her room. She also found out this mousekeeper had worked @ Pop Century for ONE MONTH and this was his FIFTH theft. Yep, that's right, he had done it FOUR times BEFORE and they STILL ALLOWED HIM TO KEEP WORKING!

Anyway, please go read it. It's quite an interesting story.
