Theft at Pop Century

Wouldn't many then start proping their doors open to see if they get something extra if Disney started doing that?

You would think so, but the first thing any hotel/resort does, is check the lock and see who the last 100 keys to be used in it were.

This is very sad! How terrible for you and your family. I will definitely lock everything up!

Please keep on Disney..........with them it is always the complainer that gets what they need....I have had problems with disney in the past. A 10,000 problem and it took me six months, a lawyer, many phone calls..........but I finally got what I needed. I told them in my last letter that I was sure that the local news stations would be interested in hearing about this. That cleared up things pretty quick. But really you just have to keep on them.

Best of luck! Kristi

DMRick,
they have maintenence logs that must be filled out with the time, date and kind of maintenence required for any room, no matter how small the job.

Oh, they know she was in the room. However, how to prove she "lifted" the items? They don't seem very interested in the log I have from Walmart showing the gift card was used in Orlando. I won't let this rest, that's for sure. I'm angry now.

My faith in Disney is restored. We worked with a very nice claims person, and we are very happy with the resolution. I think it really helped that the gift card was able to be shown to have been used...and that I was able to point him to the Disboards (we looked at it together) and another case of theft at POP. In any case, we appreciate his work at resolving this quickly.

That's wonderful news! I'm so glad for you and your family!

I'm so glad that the other thread/poster's situation was able to help you out! :cool1:

That's wonderful news DMRick! :cloud9: I'm so pleased everything has worked out in the end (for the best). As far as storing cash/valuables while in a room...there are many other "options" available besides the SAFE (which is the most OBVIOUS place for valuables). I could print them here, but then...perhaps some dishonest employees are lurking/scanning these boards...and would then know PRECISELY where to look. Just, use your DIS IMAGINATION. I'm sure many of you already "know" of the places I'm referring to, which are not only very difficult to access...but are time consuming, etc. I've never experienced a problem, when using these "hidden/secret" areas. ^_^

:goodvibes

I am very glad your story had a happy ending. Although it will forever take away your feeling of being secure in a Disney resort. (At least it would me.)

Just to show how bad things can be, and in favor of criminals, just over a year ago I had a boss who was packing for a getaway Las Vegas long weekend.
IN HER OWN HOME, she forgot and left $2,000 on her kitchen counter top a few nights before the trip. (She admits it was dumb. She meant to put it away after returning from the bank. But it was her own home, she works FT, has three young boys and was packing for a trip.)
Her long time housekeeper cleaned her house a few days prior to the trip, and the following morning. You guessed it. The cash disappeared.
The police were called in, but it became a her word against hers battle. The housekeeper admitted to having her neice with her during the cleaning. She denied the accusation also, and neither claimed to seeing any cash.
My boss filed a home owners insurance claim. But I think that only allowed $500.
TOUGH lesson to learn........

I am glad yours turned out much better.

DMRick,I am glad to hear that they made it right for you.

For everyone else it goes to show that you can't be too careful no matter where you stay.

I am in Atlanta on business and watched housekeeping cleaning rooms here. They leave the door open so anyone can see what is in the room. You should always be very careful with your valuables, even at Disney.

so happy they made things right!! It would have been a complete letdown if they just tried to brush it away!

I am glad DMrick your grandson recovered some of his loss.
I would have to say this....
I am SO glad reading reports like this educates some of us, to prevent us from being victims.
But, also to know that if Disney paid out on every "report" that something was missing.....
So the best thing is to protect yourself from it happening.
At home it is
1.turn the coffee pot off
2.have keys and purse
3.door locked

at Disney it is
1.have camera
2.everything in safe and locked
3.have key,purse, and tickets....

I don't believe they do. I think having saved the gift card receipt, being able to provide them with a copy of the place, time and date of use, was very improtant, as well as the fact (which they did check) that we have stayed on Disney property over 25 times and never had any type of problem like this, helped. The total of everything was not high either..I'm assuming it woudl be more complicated if we had had a loss of hundred's. I've learned from it, and that is to not leave my room if anyone else is in it, and to lock, lock, lock up everything, although I still don't think I should have to.

I agree...I am glad you had so many facts to back up your claim.
Disney has been really good to us, we have been lucky. My daughter lost her charm bracelet and name necklace her grandmother had bought for her on Main Street. We left it on teh table in the room and then couldn't find it. I knew we had not taken it out of the room.. so I asked the front desk if maybe mousekeeping threw it away on accident.
He told me to go and find them again and he would reimburse me for them...about $50 worth! I was pleasantly suprised at results on the first call, when I really expected nothing.

Just thought I'd share another thread that was posted on the Community board. Mousekeeping theft thread.

It's VERY interesting. She was at POP CENTURY!!!!! She did file a police report. She also found out through lock interrogation (who opened the room, what time & for how long) that this certain mousekeeper had, in fact, been in her room. She also found out this mousekeeper had worked @ Pop Century for ONE MONTH and this was his FIFTH theft. Yep, that's right, he had done it FOUR times BEFORE and they STILL ALLOWED HIM TO KEEP WORKING!

Anyway, please go read it. It's quite an interesting story.

Yep, that's ME!!!! And the end to my story is a good one. WDW reimbursed me the entire $550. However, had I not filed a police report I wouldn't have gotten the information about the employee and his other incidents and WDW would NOT have given me a dime in reimbursement!! PM me if you want more info and specific contact information for the Orange County Sheriff (but it should be on the card that security gave you with the case number, etc). Good luck!!

That's just what I was thinking! :sad2:

... but I did lock everything in the safe and I kept the key in a pouch around my neck. Still, people should be able to leave valuable things in their hotel room and not have them disappear!...

I new to this stuff this will be my first trip in 25 years. How are the safes locked? Do I need to bring something to lock my stuff up?

When my family was in Disney in 1999, my mom left her fanny pack in the bathroom at MGM and someone stole it. It had all our park hopper tickets, and about $1000.00 cash. We went straight to Guest Relations. They didn't have anything on file saying that we had purchased the tickets, seeing as how my dad did so with cash at a Disney Store at home. I'm sure my dad had some kind of receipt, but that was at home, which didn't help us 700 miles away! But the manager at Guest Relations gave us all brand new 7day park hopper tickets just on benifit of the doubt! We were staying at the Beach Club, and the manager personally came up to our room that evening to make sure we worked everything out. Now that's Disney Magic! Seems like they really do everything they can to fix any horrible situations that can occur...

Also, just to mention... believe it or not... on that SAME trip my mom had a minor stroke (She turned out fine but what a trip that was!!!). It was our last day on Disney property. Disney rushed her to the hospital with my dad, then sent someone up to the room to me (I was the oldest) and they gave me 75 dollars cash and extra tickets for 2 days for me, my brother and my sister. I took them to the parks for the next two days, on Disney, so my parents could be at the hospital and we wouldn't have to worry about them. It was amazing of them. They let us stay at the hotel the extra nights at no additional fee and took outstanding care of us. They really do go above and beyond...

what lovely home .. I envy you...
