Anybody use this public transportation? We are staying our first two nights in Waikiki and it seems to be an easy way to and from Diamond Head early in the morning. The schedule shows a pickup before 7 am about a block from our hotel. I thought this would be a good thing to do our first day.

If you can get an Uber or Lyft earlier, I would do that. Diamond Head opens at 6am and you'd usually want to "rope drop" it. People without cars coming on buses from Waikiki show up all at the same time, and the crowds shoot up all at that time. Beating the bus crowds (and the midday heat) makes it a much more pleasant experience.

Well that's some good info thanks. I hate getting stuck in a slow moving crowd. I have looked at the hike so I realize it can bottle up but I'd like to avoid starting that way.

I'd also recommend doing it in the beginning of your trip when it's easy to wake up early. Let the jetlag work to your advantage.

We took The Bus from Waikiki to Diamond Head, and it worked out great. Convenient, cheap, didn't require us navigating in a car. I recommend. I think there were maybe only about 5 other ppl who got off at Diamond Head with us.

Oh, AND you can purchase the bus passes at ABC stores. If I remember correctly, you have to pay for the bus passes with cash.

We will always do the bus. They pickup on Kuhio quite often. As stated there is usually a fun group going as well. A little longer hike because they drop you off at the entrance to the tunnel

If you’re doing the 7am bus, there shouldn’t be much of a crowd when you arrive.

You might want to do the hike on a Saturday if you can. Across the street from the Diamond Head entrance is the KCC Farmers Markets - definitely worth a morning stop after the hike.

We used Uber from Waikiki to Diamond Head about two weeks ago. It was $15 one way and $20 return. No problems. We were at Waikiki Beachcomber

Also don’t know your age. We’re over 65 yo and if you show your Medicare card you only have to pay $1. In September, we went to Aulani and then dropped off our rental car in Waikiki and stayed a week at the Hilton and rode the bus several times, very convenient.
