The World vs. The Land...

I grew up near DL and have visited many times. We spent five days there over two trips in 2005. I am planning my first trip to WDW for early May, and will know more about how they compare after the trip.

One thing to point out is the difference in hotel situations and the proximity of DL and DCA (which I would recommend visiting - parkhopping is free for multi-day tickets at DLR). The walk from the DL gate to the DCA gate is about one minute. There are three resort hotels, and a whole slew of "good neighbor" hotels. Some of these are very close to the DLR gate - an easy 5-7 minute walk.

If you get a close by hotel, you can walk everywhere. We never drove our car or boarded a tram or bus for four straight days last summer. That is very convenient. And afternoon breaks are easy to do and recommended.

As for rides, the strong rumor is that Test Track is coming to DCA (in response to an earlier post) morphed into a theme based on the upcoming Pixar movie "Cars". I originally did not like Indiana Jones very much, but after about three or four rides it became one of my top three favorites at DLR. I will miss that at WDW, but am looking forward to some of the other originals there.

The new "Remember Dreams Come True" fireworks and laser show for the 50th anniversary celebration is jaw-droppingly fabulous, but only if you squeeze into the hub with a gazillion other people (we did it and it was worth it). You cannot see many of the effects from outside the hub.

And in California, we called the soft drinks "pop" or sometimes "soda pop".

That's interesting...the fireworks show is called "Wishes" at DW and they sell the CD.

Wishes made me cry. Listening to the CD makes me have to swallow hard, but the kids love it.

My kids call beer, "man's coke". :lmao:

California - Has a Land

Florida - Has a World

That is profound. Did you mean for it to be? Really quite profound...

Guess it's been one of those kinds of days. A mere email to a fellow discriminating coffee drinker inquiring as to his brand preference resulted in a phrase I've been chewing on all day. He stated that his taste in coffee is simple, and I quote,

"...simplicity is increasingly more difficult to find with the recent onset of adulthood, so it's all the more precious."

Hmmm. I told him to hang onto that outlook for dear life. (And how did we get THAT out of a discussion about COFFEE beans, for crying out loud?)

Disneyland has the follwing rides that Magic Kingdom or Disneyworld does not have:

Materhorn Bobsleds
Indiana Jones
Casey Jr. Circus Train
Alice in Wonderland
Pinocchio's Adventures
Mr. Toads Wild Ride
Roger Rabbit's Car-toon Spin
Star Tours (Its at Disney/MGM studios in WDW)

Better Versions of:
Pirates of the Caribbean
Space Mountain

You forgot:
Storybook Land Canal Boats
Davey Crockett's Explorer Canoes
Snow White: An Enchanting Musical (Show)
Sailing Ship Columbia (+ its a GREAT floating "stage" used in Fantasmic!)
Jolly Trolley (in Toontown)

In the attractions that are similar, but "not quite" the same:
Tarzan's (instead of Swiss Family) Treehouse
Enchanted Tiki Room (under the "original" management)

and a personal favorite, THE BLUE BAYOU restaurant
located "inside" the POTC opening bayou scenes.

I love both parks!

Actually The Snow White show has been canceled :furious:

My dd and I consider DLR a weekend getaway and WDW a vacation destination. Taken as two different parks both can be appreciated and enjoyed. :hippie:

i think that disneyland's toontown is a million times better that the toontown in MK, WDW.

it has rides and seems to be an actual land - where as MK's, WDW toontown just seems to be a walkway with mickeys tent, minnie mouse's house and a small rollarcoaster.

I like the sides streets of Main street in DL because they offer something besides just a bench to sit on. You get to hear the sounds of life from the uppr windows.

Ihave been to DL twice and WDW at least 20 times. DL is not WDW, WDW is not DL. THey both have thier good and not so good things. I rode Indiana Jones 4 times before I got in the car that stalls. Very neat ride. I love the DL is so compact that you can just get to everything easily. I LOVE the NBC decor in the HM and wish they would add it to WDW. I like the castle at WDW better as it is more castle like to me, but the original looks so good for the party.

Coke or Pepsi? Up heah it's Tonic.
