Still 80 on 2 of my 80's.... I'm having more fun with my lvl 27 worgen warrior... most of the people in my guild who were 880, are already 85.

I haven't rolled my worgen yet, but I will soon. I hit 85 on Thursday and have the zone achieves towards Cata Loremaster in Hyjal, Vashj'ir, Deepholm, and Uldum done. Once I finish Twilight Highlands I'll start playing around with alts.

I'm really disappointed at how small this x-pac is - I will easily have Cata Loremaster, Cata superior gear achieve, a bunch of revered factions, every normal dungeon completion, and of course max level within a week's time.

It's small for 80 - 85.... but if you roll new toons, it is HUGE. 4000 new quests. All instance pretty much changed. Heck, one of the hardest things is just knowing where anything is these days, and how to get there.

I have a level 5 goblin.... just because my main server crashed tonight.... and what a hoot they are to play. It is like playing a cartoon with goblins.

I also have a 29 worgen and the starting zone was almost nightmarishly hard. Constant fighting w/o time to recover if you aren't a healer.

I hope i don't have to go back often.

Cataclysm bumpkin here. DH plays WoW and downloaded it on my laptop last night. Questions for you all if you don't mind?

What's a toon?
How can I just build a character and explore?
Is there one server, guild, group that I could do that's easy? I'm horrible at games. For example, Sims was just right; sims 2 was too hard. The first Sim Theme park was just right, but the update was too complicated.

Can you help? Any Advice for me? And what's better (easier) to play: alliance or horde?

Thank you sooooooooo much. Sorry if this is a threadjack. I didn't know if I should start a new one for newbys or not.

Robin, welcome to WoW - you can see that there are a few addicts here, me being one of them. But...it's cheaper than heroin and I don't have to leave the house. :lmao:

As for your questions: A "toon" is slang for your character. It's short for "cartoon", and it's your avatar in game. Used in a sentence - "I have several toons. My main toon is an 85 paladin, and I have 3 other level 80 toons as well."

I was not a gamer before WoW, and still don't classify myself as some kind of hotdog in game. I'm in my 40's and am pretty much useless when it comes to other games. WoW can be done casually and you can do a lot of exploring. Fighting mobs (a mob is a target) is really not that difficult, and WoW puts in a lot of help for those of us who need a bit of a tutorial. Remember, this game is not just for adults, a lot of kids play it, and Blizzard takes that into account.

Each server is identical, so there is no real difficulty difference - however, I would recommend either choosng a PvE/Normal (Player Versus Environment) server or RP (Roleplaying) server so that you will not get attacked by other players. Normal servers make for an easier and more pleasant experience, especially for those who aren't used to MMO's, like me. I would stay away from any server that has "PvP" attached to it. Doing quests is the best way to explore and learn more about your character's class and race. It also helps tell a story, and is very immersive.

On a PvE or RP server, the only things you can attack (and who can attack you) have names in red, and are usually entities which are game created, not other players. I tried both types of servers, and got very frustrated on a PvP server when I was level 35 and some stupid level 70 dranei sat on my head and kept killing me for 3 hours, keeping me from questing or doing anything else. That toon is still sitting in the inn at Red Rock Retreat.

Guilds are great in that they provide a social aspect to this game - since Cataclysm, guilds also provide nifty little perks such as experience bonuses, reputation bonuses, increases to mount speed and such. Look on the World of Warcraft official forums (google that, it's at battle.net) and you will find tons of information on guilds - people looking for guilds, guilds looking for people. Find out the kind of people you like and your playstyle, and apply to join. For example, you don't sound like you're interested in hardcore raiding, so look for a casual social guild. Seek out qualities such as attitudes, age ranges, etc., to make sure it's a good fit.

Side note: Blizzard's official site is a GREAT resource to figure all this stuff out. They created so many ways for you to learn about the game before you play it, what each race/class is, lore, terminology, etc. I would really start there and browse there first.

Depending on your likes and dislikes, I would learn more about the races to decide if you want to be horde or alliance. I have toons on both factions, and each race and faction has its own story and perspective. I started as an alliance human - and that was nice because humans had a level of familiarity to me, as I had never played a video game like this before. But now that I've been part of the Horde for the past 4 years, I appreciate the other side of the fence too.

Most new people to WoW resonate with Night Elves and humans, or they'll roll a Blood Elf (if they like the Horde), but it's really a personal preference. I have a guildmate who will only be a Tauren! There are many places on the web where you can learn about Lore and such. WoW's official website has a lot of resources as do places like WoW Insider. (Please google these things, as I don't know if I can put links here).

Take things slow and have fun with it. There's no race or competition - it's something to do to enjoy yourself. Don't beat yourself up if you make a mistake or feel you're not very good. This game caters to all levels of play and the only thing that is important is that you are smiling!

Good luck and have fun!

I cannot seem to stop making Worgen...I think I need help..

My main is 85, and has been since Monday night. I haven't started new toons yet - though I plan on starting both a worgen and a gobbo. My favorite zone so far has been Uldum, then Mount Hyjal, then Deepholm and then Vash'jir. I am having a problem in a 360 degree world, I can never find anything and I get terribly lost.

I discovered that archaeology will give you GREAT experience if you want to go that route. I also discovered that your significant other will get very pissed off if you hit 85 a day before he does because you spent several hours getting that experience from archaeology.

I'm busy getting through all the quests in cataclysm to get my achievements there. Tonight I start on Twilight Highlands, and this weekend I'd like to do some dungeons for better gear. I will echo the PP's sentiments that the money is really nice. However....cloth is as rare as hen's teeth! I'm having a dilly of a time finding any, and I just need it for first aid! I've decided to sell all my cloth on the auction house until the tailors no longer need it and then worry about first aid.

My goals on my main are: get thru all the quests in the new areas for the achievements, get ALL my professions to 525 (archaeology is a blast). Then I can get my other 3 level 80's to 85. After that, I will be working on my my worgen druid and goblin (not sure what class to pick).

NOTE TO EVERYONE: If you have a level 80 waiting to be leveled and you haven't logged into them since Cataclysm, do that right away or else they will not get any rest bonus!!

Really? Dang, I need to log into my lock then...thanks for the heads up!

I have like 13 points with my level 27.... I haven't tried it with my 80... by "great experience' what do you mean? Like outrageous, and worth the time? because I find archaeology to be quite BORING.

I mean great experience by the fact that every time you get a fragment you can get between 9000 - 28000 experience towards leveling (that's what I was getting between level 80-85). Currently, I'm at around 175 skill in archaeology, which isn't much. I've got a guildmate who's already at 525, if you can believe it!!

The only way I'm leveling my archaeology is by creating artifacts from fragments - but at my level, I'm getting 3-5 fragments per hit, and I get 3 hits per site. I think it's a blast because it's like seeking treasure without fighting everyone on the server for the same node, as you would for herbalism or mining. I like the lore that I'm reading for each piece and it is kind of a mini-game within the game, which appeals to me. Everyone has their own perspective on this.

Yes, to some people it can seem tedious and boring...but to others (like me), I think it's kind of cool and something to do when you're a little burned out of questing and hitting heroics. Plus, there are some rare rewards like pets and mounts, and there's always achievements to get.

Dax and DisneyWitch thank you for the help and for the great information! I will learn more about the lore and characters before I start playing. And I definitely will do the non-PvP games. :thumbsup2

I think I am suffering WoW overload....

Took a worgen to 42 already... doing arch and leveling my pally in Cata, plus helping guildies.... my brain is fried.

Hi I am new to Wow having just started playing casually about 2 months ago. Had to stop for 10 days for a disneyworld trip (just got back on the 13th). Anyway.
When I was there I met a very nice couple from New York who told me their realm and guild and I have lost that paper. So If Lee and Saro read this its Gina from Artist Point. Please pm me that info again (if you want). I am really gutted about losing that info. Anyway,
to my actual question:

How do I find the daily quests? Fishing dailys was mentioned and I know there are others but where do you get them?
Do you have to be at a certain level to get daily quests? My night elf hunter (very noob character) anyway, my hunter is my main and only at level 46.

I am looking for a guild that will do dungeon runs on a regular basis. I am alliance right now on Silverhand but am thinking of switching to horde.

I'm leveling so slow because I am chicken to go in a PUG for instances (still learning my role-don't want to p#^$& off the group) so I mostly solo quests.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Well, Daily quests have blue exclamation points, after the first one, or maybe as the first one you do.

There are two in Stormwind. I would bet most big cities have them. I know Shatrath does have some. Also there are a few here and there in Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord.

One area in Grizzly Hills has 4 that are all side by side, and are all done in the same area, so you can knock out 4 in about 15 minutes.

The BEST ONE, IMO, is one in Dragonblight at the harbor. After you do it enough, you get a purple fishing rod that lets you breathe underwater, and adds points to your fishing skill... plus, it actually isn't a bad weapon in an emergency. :rotfl: To get it you need to get to exalted status with those walrus guys.... if you do all 3 dailies for them for about 2 weeks you get to exalted.

Make a character on Whisperwind ( Alliance ) and join my guild.... about 175 members and we are almost always doing dungeons. Look for me "GarlicGuy" or Worgenaut.

Thank you bcb:

But I think I am still too low level to do these. I haven't yet been to any of those places (except of course Stormwind). Do you know where the dailies are in Stormwind? I am only level 46 and I can't play now bec its xmas and I have visitors. (bummer).
You also didn't mention your guild name.
My character name is Yassasin. That's just my main.
Thanks.
What level to get a flying mount? does anyone know?

Flying can start at level 60.

In SW, the 2 dailies are on the canals.... one is where you learn fishing, and the other is right near it... just cross the bridge and make a RH turn.... Look for "Robble" Flay.

My guild is Soulforged... I am not the GM, but I am the highest ranking oficer in it.

LuvSnowWhite, have you trained in cooking and fishing yet? That might be a reason why you don't see the blue "!". Just a thought!

I play primarily on Winterhoof server, Alliance side. And I'm the GM of our guild. We are called Scruffy Nerf Herders. :upsidedow

Yes I have cooking and fishing but my cooking is so low (75) I'm not sure how to get it higher. I have to find low level mats to cook something and I barely have any reciepes (?sp). I totally missed out on the Thanksgiving event where you can really build up cooking. My fishing is higher but I keeping losing my fishing rod (dumb newb action). I sell it by mistake. I have to keep buying new ones (OMG-dumb). I will look for those sw dailies.

Yea, you can find alot of recipes off the AH but they will be pricey. For now though, the cooking trainer is in the Inn in the Old Town section of SW. The Fishing Daily is located on the outskirts of Trade District (along the canal, sort of the N.W. corner of thr Trade District). The Cooking daily is located in the Mage Quarter sort of across from the fishing daily). You can usually see the blue ! standing at the fishing one.

If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

75 is the cap for cooking at low levels... you must go back and be trained for the nest higher level. Same with all professions.... they have caps and need to be trained for a higher skill level.

And, on alliance, in Old Town, there is a recipe seller in a bar / inn. And your trainer will teach you knew ones. Plus they drop off creatures you beat. And, you can always buy some at the auction house.
