The Woman Report- Update 4/24 Final Thoughts p. 74

I can't believe those lifeguards, what was there problem! Geez. I definitely would have complained to hotel management.

Pictures That Won't Make It On This Report If Left To the "Woman"
I wonder why they were left out :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

“Did you tell my daughter she couldn’t go down the slide???” Getting right up in the guy’s face.

“Uh, well, uh, ah er. Yeah.”
“Why!” Not a question, really more of a statement.

“One of the life guards called up and told me she needed a break.”
OMG What!!!! That's ridiculous isn't the slide there for kids to slide down on :headache: Good on Buzz for saying something!!!

I think Buzz handled the lifeguard situation pretty well.

Of course, I would have gone one step further (perhaps over the line) and complained to a manager. Those kids need to learn a lesson and that will only happen if it comes from their boss!

I agree.

I'm a relatively passive person, but I would have complained, and if I wasn't listened to, I would have sicked HHBG on them.

Those lifeguards needed a life. THey just didn't want to have to work, and since LA was the only one there, it was easier to just have her not go on the slide than to watch her. :headache:

I think the way they handled it was bad. But if they did they think she was getting tired than I say they were doing there job. Hard to believe but I was a lifeguard in my teens and it is tough to do. You get angry parents alot.
But like I said it really could have been handled better by them approaching one of you and not scaring her to the point of tears and for that I would have complained to the manager.

:woohoo: we got a preview of a pic coming up. :yay:

That's crazy. I'm glad Buzz said something. I get really mad when people correct my kids in front of me or pull dumb stuff like that. :sad2:

Things Lin Forgot... :sad2:

The first lifeguard who told my daughter she can't go anymore was at the top of the slide. They post one up there for some reason. WDW does not do this as there is no need. Maybe it's a California Regulation. Anyway, I got RIGHT in his face. I mean close. He was backing up and had to stop at the railing. I was hot! :furious:

The second lifeguard was a chick so I didn't invade her space. However, I left my sunglasses on and spoke in my authoritative voice. I mentioned to her that even if my daughter looked tired, she could TOUCH the bottom of the pool! She was swimming to the sides because she wanted to. DUH!! It was after this comment that she told me it was ok for her to return to the slide.

DUH!!! I was taking her with or without permission. :smokin:

She also forgot to mention about the chairs:

I DID clear off space for all of us by tossing towels that were lying on chairs over to the side. If people want to save a spot, they need more than a pool towel. you have to have shoes and backpacks and such. Dats da rule! ::yes::

True dat. ::yes::

We went back to the room and got ready for swimming. We made our way to the pool and looked around for a place to camp out for a few hours. It was very crowded and all the front row seats were taken. Buzz sits down at an empty chair, but the one next to him has a towel on it. I don’t know what to do. Where do I sit? :confused3 Buzz says to move the towel. I can’t. I also can’t scoot another chair over on the other side of him because I think the life guards would get mad. I could just tell. One kept giving me the evil eye.

I don't get the mindset that thinks leaving a towel on a chair is somehow "saving" it?! I'd have moved the towel too :rotfl:

The kids head off to play and LeeAndra starts going down the slide a bunch. I’m kind of walking around and thinking about getting in the hot tub. I decide to just take an obviously empty chair in the 2nd row and not sit by Buzz. LA has gone down the slide about 5 times. She goes back up the stairs to go down it again. She's so happy! :goodvibes No one else was on it so there wasn't even a line. She gets to the top and all of a sudden, she turns around and comes back down to us. She starts to put her life jacket on and I could tell she’s trying not to cry.

Aww, poor little bean :sad1:

“What’s wrong?” I ask.

“I’m just getting this on.” (still trying not to cry):sad1:

“How come you aren’t going down the slide?”

“Because I needed a break.” (still trying not to cry):sad1:

“Who told you that!?” Now I’m mad. There's no way she decided that for herself- someone must've told her.

“That guy up there.” She puts her life jacket on and gets in the water.

Now I’m not one of those parents that gets mad when someone instructs or corrects my child. (My brother is) I’m a strict rule follower myself and I firmly believe that if my kids need to be corrected and I don’t see it, then by all means, correct them. But within reason. This, to me, was not reasonable. She wasn’t hurting anything by going down the slide-there wasn’t even any other kids going down it. :confused3 She was the only one on it. They might not have realized it, but we were watching her too!

Yep, I would've been  too

I look at Buzz and said, “That’s absolutely ridiculous! She’s only been down it about 5 times. No one else is even on the stupid slide-she’s not holding up a line or hurting anything! Did you see her trying not to cry? He made her almost cry!”

I continue raving on like this, knowing the outcome. Buzz stands up, puts his shirt on and heads up the slide stairs. Yup. Exactly what I wanted. :thumbsup2 He's so predictable.

I would've done the same - it's easy to get my dh riled up when it has to do with our children! Then again, I would've been happy to confront the useless lifeguards too - never cross a mommy! :headache:

Here’s the encounter as told to me by Buzz:
He approaches the life guard at the top of the stairs.
“Did you tell my daughter she couldn’t go down the slide???” Getting right up in the guy’s face.

“Uh, well, uh, ah er. Yeah.”
“Why!” Not a question, really more of a statement.

“One of the life guards called up and told me she needed a break.”

“Which one!” Again, not a question.

“That one.” Buzz spins around and goes to see the Baywatch –wanna be lifeguard chick. :rolleyes1

“Why did you tell my daughter she couldn’t go down the slide!”

Now she stammers and hems and haws. She gives Buzz the excuse that it looked like LeeAndra’s head was too close to going under the water and she thought it was because she was tired and after all, she didn’t want her to drown. (as if we did!) :sad2:

Buzz turns around and walks away. The life guard calls after him, “She can go down now!” Buzz just shakes his head.

Good daddy! Go, Buzz, go! :thumbsup2

So he calls LA over and tells her she can go down the slide, but now she’s too scared to go down so Buzz goes with her. All is well again. Builds up her confidence. We swim for an hour or two, then head back up to get ready for dinner. Buzz calls Domino’s for the kids and I try to straighten up the room. Buzz squeezes in some sleep time and I give Trey a bath, then start getting myself ready for our first night out!!

I'm so glad she was able to regain her confidence

AGAIN, he's sleeping?! :lmao:

Coming up: Our First Date Night-Does Buzz Chase Any Squirrels?? Linnie Kisses a Prickly Mickey!!

Hmm ... hard question... what're the odds he'll chase a squirrel? Pretty good, I'd think

But thanks to Buzz, that picture is already posted....

Yeah, saw that, it's a great picture, Linnie! Very Disney-ish :wizard:

Going off topic for a moment to tell Heidi, "I LOVE your new signature photo."

Hi, Linnie! Thanks for the hijack!

I like that picture too!

Powertripping lifeguards!

That's exactly it. :thumbsup2

Me thinks the GC needs to hire some new life guards:mad:
Me too!

How dare you MAKE your child go down that slide so many times that she was having fun and not bothering anyone

Are we mean or what! ;)

Dude those life guards...not cool...not cool at all. They are supposed to be creating magic...not taking away from it. Poor LA...trying not to cry. I hope she got a big hug out of that. Here is one for her

Exactly! The lifeguards at WDW are all nice. We've never encountered a bad one. They are really good with the kids, talk to them, play with them etc. These just glared at them. :confused3 I didn't see one smile one time.

I think Buzz handled the lifeguard situation pretty well.

Of course, I would have gone one step further (perhaps over the line) and complained to a manager. Those kids need to learn a lesson and that will only happen if it comes from their boss!

We probably should have... It still bugs me. There's one more incident coming up. After all this, we decided to bag that pool and go to the other one with no slide.

::yes::

I can't believe those lifeguards, what was there problem! Geez. I definitely would have complained to hotel management.

Yeah, we should have. I still feel like complaining.

OMG What!!!! That's ridiculous isn't the slide there for kids to slide down on Good on Buzz for saying something!!!

That's what I thought! Isn't the slide there for kids to slide down? :confused3

I agree.

I'm a relatively passive person, but I would have complained, and if I wasn't listened to, I would have sicked HHBG on them.

I never thought of that! Good observation!

:woohoo: we got a preview of a pic coming up. :yay:

I agree, if they felt she was tired they should step in-they have to do their job. I wish they would've handled it better. At WDW, they have those red & green lights that tell the kids when they can go down the slide. They don't have a guy at the top. I wonder they DGC did?

Being a lifeguard does look very hard! One time, we were at a pool with a huge slide and Trey was about 3. You had to buy a wristband to go on the slide and be a certain height which he wasn't. He saw the slide and took off running so fast, I couldn't catch him. He got almost to the top before I grabbed him. The life guards (all in their teens) were yelling at him to stop, and they were all looking at each other like, "what do we do??" b/c he just kept running. He didn't understand language back then. When I got him, I explained to them that he had a disability-he wasn't being naughty. They were really nice about it. :goodvibes And once again, I had to run in while wearing my swimming suit. :scared:

That's crazy. I'm glad Buzz said something. I get really mad when people correct my kids in front of me or pull dumb stuff like that. :sad2:

I'm glad he did too. I knew if I kept harping about it he would!

She also forgot to mention about the chairs:

I DID clear off space for all of us by tossing towels that were lying on chairs over to the side. If people want to save a spot, they need more than a pool towel. you have to have shoes and backpacks and such. Dats da rule! ::yes::

I don't remember you clearing anything except the goo out of your eyes when you woke up.

I don't get the mindset that thinks leaving a towel on a chair is somehow "saving" it?! I'd have moved the towel too
I need to get braver!!

That's pretty much all he did on this trip! Every time I turned around, he was sleeping.

Thank you!

Boo to the lifeguards for making LA almost cry! But :cheer2: for her daddy for telling them off--I would have done the same thing.

I'm just as happy skipping Kali and any ride like it now b/c that's the wettest and ugliest I've ever been in the parks! DH offered me his baseball cap afterwards!:rolleyes1

All is well again. Builds up her confidence. We swim for an hour or two, then head back up to get ready for dinner.

I'm glad she was able to go back to having fun. One great thing about kids - you're probably still steaming about it when you think of it (I would be, too) - but kids seem to be able to brush that stuff off most of the time. I know when I butt heads with one of mine, I'll have a "bad" feeling for hours and he forgets it in seconds.

I agree you should have complained to a manager! How dare they correct a child when her parents are right there watching her and she is doing nothing wrong!!! Where is the Disney love? You go Buzz for putting them in their places!:cool1:

I've had a small crisis going on around here, so I haven't been on much this week. But now I'm caught up.

First off, the pics that weren't supposed to make it on here: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I think the lifeguards are trained with the fear of lawsuits. So, some of them will be more protective of certain things than others. Maybe the Chick guard was in charge that day. :confused3
