Ditto on the earplugs, but I would highly reccomend a sleep study for him . He may have sleep apnea and if so this could drasticly shorten his lifespan. it is a simple test and the treatment is dooable. Hubby had it done 11 yrs ago and I never hear a peep out of him now. he used to sound like a freight train when he slept. We love the Lodge by the way.

Yes -- a sleep study is a great suggestion! My dh just did one about two months ago and he stopped breathing over 200 times each night! His CPAP machine has allowed me to stop sleeping on the couch, LOL, and it's definitely coming with us to the Lodge this year! :thumbsup2

Hello friends! Some of you may remember me. I frequented this thread for many months agonizing over WL details like room views and transportation details.

Well, I have written a book about my family's vacation to the WL. It started out as a trip report, but quickly evolved into a lengthy book . . . much of which describes the beloved resort as well as the guidance this board provided for me in preparation. Here is the thread to that evolution:

I am in the middle of having my book, True Confessions of a Neurotic, Disney Mom, edited and--hopefully--soon published.

If you enjoyed, the beginnings of what you read, I was hoping you would help me out. I am trying to get my screenname on the board changed to "NDM#1" to coincide with my book. A petition to the webmasters has been started here along with another excerpt in my book:

Thank you for all your help prior to my vacation. It helped me write this book and make it amusing in a VERY BIG way.

You wouldn't fit in the Honeymoon suite~ We were upgraded to that in May for our 25th anniversary. While it's a nice room, there is only a king bed in there...no couch or really place to put anything to sleep on. Good luck..I'm sure something will open up for you : )

Thanks for the info! We will be there from Oct 16 to 19th on Club level, then two additional nights in the Courtyard view. Right now only honeymoon room is open for the last two nights, but our famly of 4 would be awfully cranky sleeping together ! :) I plan to keep checking, we do have some time before we get there, so maybe I can upgrade those last couple of nights.

I've talked to (well, emailed) the staff at the IPO a few times over the last day or so, and they are awesome! They have been so quick to respond usually within an hour or so! They booked the Wildlife Discovery Excursion for us today ! YEAY !

Now to decide on a few more meals and get those reserved.. and I'll be all set!

I have a question for everyone, I have a 7:45am breakfast at 'Ohana's and I need to know what is the best way to get there from the lodge and how long will it take to get there? Also what transportation will be running that early? I know the buses start running early for early ADR'S at the parks but I'm not sure about the resorts, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I must apologize if this has been asked before, I have not been able to successfully turn up the info in a search:

What is the procedure if I want to send a box to myself before shipping? My suitcase is bursting with all the bottled water and snacks I've shoved in there and I'd love to be able to ship it down. How early can I send it - will they hold it at WL if I am not there yet? How would I address it?
:thanks:

I saw this in the lobby but I actually have no idea what it is. It looks like it might be used for transporting logs on the railroad. Can anyone enlighten me please and what is it called?

It's a railroad hand car. Railroaders pump the handles to make the car go down the railroad track to where they were working. Quicker than walking. :)

I would suggest taking the boat to the Contemporary and hoping on the monorail, or taking the bus to the Magic Kingdom and taking the monorail. Both should be running early, but I would give yourself plenty of time. I'd say be down at the boat/bus around 7 or a little earier. Once you're on the transporation system, it shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to get to where it's going. Alternatively, you could take a cab which would be about 5 minutes from the Poly and would probably cost less than $10.

I've sent cases of water during our last trip. We've sent them a week before so they'd be there waiting for us when we arrived. They do hold them until you arrive.

I addressed it as:

Disney's Wilderness Lodge
Name on Reservation
Reservation #
Arriving On MM/DD/YYYY
901 Timberline Drive
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830-1000

Thank you for your help, I think I will try to go over to the contemporary and then to the monorail to get to 'Ohanas. This will give me a chance to see the contemporary and will be my sons first time on the monorail!:goodvibes

Please don't be offended - this is just an innocent question - I was just wondering why people ship bottled water and snacks when you could just go to Goodings etc when you get to WDW? Maybe because you decided not to hire a car if you are flying? I live in UK so it's obviously not an option but I was just curious as to why you would choose to do that?

No offense taken. We fly (we're in Boston) and we take Magical Express. It would cost us a bit to take a cab to a grocery store, more than it costs to have the water sent. We've used Costco (you don't need to be a member) and Staples and got free shipping, so for $6 a case, it was worth it to have it sent to the hotel and have it waiting. Places like Garden grocer have too high of a minimum for us to use their services. Maybe when we have kids we'll use them instead because we'll need more.

If we ever did have a car service, we would use the grocery stop and not ship anything.

I'll be visiting the WL in Oct '09 for a short weekend trip. :cool1: This will be our third stay at WL, but our first doing club level.

It will be my 15th anniversary and we were married at the WL. This was back before a Disney wedding was such a big deal...there weren't really any planners and the wedding chapel hadn't been buillt....and the cost was WAY less. We paid an additional $500 over the cost of our package and got flowers, music, preacher and a couple gifts.

But, don't tell anyone. Even DH doesn't know and I hope to keep it a secret until we at least check in at the airport! :goodvibes Thanks for letting me spill the beans here, so I don't spill them at home.

We have a trip scheduled for Jan '09 at Poly. Then we will be meeting my sister and her son and my cousin and her family either Dec '09 or Jan '10.

Thank you - that makes perfect sense and the price is amazing!!! It would cost a fortune to do that in UK which is why I was puzzled. Great idea!

I apologize if this was answered as I just found this thread but do you go to your local costco to have the water shipped or do you call down to a costco in orlando and have them send it or is there something online? Also, how far in advance do you have to call costco for them to deliver it to the resort?

We did it online about 3 or 4 days prior to our arrival. Save your tracking number, though - the GF couldn't find our water until I produced the tracking number and the name of the person who signed for it...then it was found very quickly.

thank you very much, that's a great tip.

We are going down to the WL in Dec and I have 2 DD's (4 & 2).

We have a courtyard view room...any suggestions on what i should make for my two requests? We have already requested a full balcony...does asking for a refrigerator in the room count as a request? Or are there fridge's in every room?

There are refrigerators in every room.

I would think about asking for a room in the North Wing - it's closer to the Roaring Fork and quick mug refills.

hi there, I'm new to the WL FAQ board...I just booked my trip two days ago and I'll be there in eight days! I won't have time to read through the whole thread, so I apologize if these have been asked before. I booked a standard view room. I am looking for a quieter room. When I check in, is there a particular wing or section of the resort I should request? I will also be traveling solo with DD3 so convenience is a must too. Where would I request to be closer to restaurant and/or pool?

I also just read that the ELP goes by the WL. What time does it go by, and how long does it last? Thanks for your help, I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions before my trip arrives!
