I selected "other"...the first Thursday of March Madness. It should be a national holiday.

For me, I got a ton of stuff done today because I wasn't being bothered by anyone. My company, I just sent out an email with 16 recipients and got 10 bouncebacks that they are out of the office. Seems like that's pretty much how it's going at the office.

I was thinking of adding that one. I love how years ago, CBS online added a ‘Boss Button’ to their screens on the streaming service 🤣

I gather that is actually a thing in many places. Not here. I was working at an ABC TV station that switched to CBS right before March Madness, and our new boss was from a CBS station elsewhere in the U.S. He was all excited until he found out the sales department couldn't sell the commercials in the coverage. Then he saw the ratings and found out we were the 20th largest CBS station in the nation, but viewership of March Madness here ranked us number 200 among CBS stations for viewers. But we have no schools involved for the most part.

You don’t have this as a choice and have likely never heard of it, but here, the least productive day is actually a 10 day stretch during a huge annual event called the Calgary Stampede that attracts 2 million+ tourists. There’s nary a person in the city and surrounding areas that don’t participate in some way and almost every employer holds corporate events and makes some provision for employees to enjoy the festivities. This doesn’t mean things shut down totally - it just means that you can never count on any given business being fully functional or any specific person being at work. And nobody feels any pressure to arrive on time in the mornings due to the countless free open-air pancake breakfasts that beckon or because they’re hungover from last night’s hoedown. The Stampede starts today and honestly, I won’t even try to keep my 17 staff members on the straight-and-narrow. Yahoo!! Y’all come up and see us, y’hear! :wave2:

How long ago was that though? I'd say March Madness has increased in viewership in the last 20 years.

1995. And I no longer have daily access to the overnights but from what my friends still there, it has not changed. Worst major TV market for March Madness.

I would say the week between Christmas and new years. Most people take off that week and the office is quiet. People have PTO to burn before January.

Not surprisingly, very few people voted for my easy answer-the Monday after the Super Bowl. Down here in Deep South Texas, that's the big day for absenteeism-but then, we Texans love our football. Several businesses celebrate "President's Day" on that day, then have their employees work on President's Day. DH used to be a Plant Manager, and he declared that the Monday after the Super Bowl had the highest absenteeism rate and lowest productivity.

If it's true Thanksgiving it the most traveled holiday in the US and if it's true that the majority of that travel happens the day before Thanksgiving, according to AAA and the news, then my money is on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Only exception is if the business is a grocery store or if you are a retail stocking person then these days are probably among the most busy.
