The Wilderness Lodge and Villas FAQ (Part 7) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

So funny you mention that. We joked about the loud flushing at the Poly this past December. Wasn't enough to want to switch resorts, but it was definitely loud.

Yes, bats, flushing toilets and...

We were last in a 5th floor, CYV room in December and all 8 nights I noticed the flushing toilets, too:hug:. It seemed to be coming from the wall behind the headboard. We also had a room with a connecting door. I always request not to have one, but we were upgraded to CL so I didn't want to complain. I learned the hard way, I will never accept a room there again with a connecting door. Every morning and late at night we were regaled with very loud neighbors and we could hear every single word and we couldn't fall asleep some nights until well after midnight. I've had rooms at all the other Deluxes, except the GF, with connecting doors, but have never noticed this level of noise - it was like they were in our closet!

Sometimes a towell at the bottom of the connecting door helps cut down on the noise. The same holds true for the main door. If you can see light under the door, you will hear more noise.

We are headed down on 2/27 and staying thru 3/5 at WL. This will be a First Visit for my grandson, age 2. Can't wait to see his face when he see's everything for the 1st time. We have booked 2 standard rooms. My husband and I and probably grandson in 1 room and 2 daughters and their husbands in the other. I am trying to figure out what to request for rooms. Can somebody help with a suggestion. We are really hoping for an upgrade and connecting rooms.
Also, husband and I took the "sleigh" ride a couple of years ago while at the WL. Do they have some type of carriage ride at this time of the year?

I would request the connecting rooms as first, then ask for the 5th floor. That will at least give you a more decent view where ever you are placed.

Carriage rides are to Ft Wilderness campground, which is a short bus or boat ride away.

Crap! that's where I was considering trying next year. Good to know...I don't think when you are paying SO much to stay in a "deluxe" resort you should be able to hear toilets. Just my opinion. Anyone know about Contemporary?

I hate to say it, but I think this is true at most resorts. These are the newer toilets that use less water. We just got them installed at work and I'm glad I am away from the bathrooms here. :rotfl2:

I would not let it stand in the way of going with the resort you want. I'm a light sleeper and it did not bother me at all.

I am a real light sleeper & not tolerant of noise at all-the fushing has never once bothered me or been an issue. The fan in the bathroom bugs me like crazy but WL is the only place we stay-so it can't bug me too much.;)-

Brian always gets it right! As each resort undergoes a major refurb, the new toilets were/are installed.

Other than screaming kiddos running up and down the halls, other noise doesn't really bother us....except when we have a connecting room door and the kids are crying next door.

We've stayed pretty much everywhere, other then an All Stars, CSR and OKW - noise levels seem about the same.:thumbsup2

Crap, indeed!

I've stayed many times at the CR, as recently as December and the only time you can hear the toilet flushing is when you're actually in the part of the bathroom with the toilet (a sliding door separates the toilet-area in the bathroom).

The only resort left for all of us who hate connecting doors and others' flushing toilets is the Wilderness Cabins!

Maybe there should be a new resort rule:

No toilet flushing between the hours of 11-7!

First, love that you said "crap!" in a toilet convo. Second, after the initial shock of the sound, it was really just something we joked about, not a real annoyance. Definitely didn't detract from our amazing room and view. :goodvibes

I think CR has the best bathroom set up for the new loud flushing...oh, wait, Poly is kind of the same - toilet in a kind of room of it's own.

Ah, yes, those lovely connecting doors - and since just about every other room is connecting in most resorts that leaves us too good a chance of a room with one. Oh, well....hmm, stay home or live with a connecting door?

Any idea the best way to google conferences going on at Disney resorts in 2011? I may be taking a newbie and want to try to avoid any big ones at the resorts (not WL since it does not have a conference center, but don't think they want to stay there. :( ). I tried, but keep getting a Disney url for Meetings. Thanks!:flower3:

The CSR thread keeps a list of ones that have been found on the FAQ. Not sure of the others. If you have specific range of dates you are looking at I'd google "Conference Disney" and add each date individually.

I wish there was a way to find out if there will be tour groups during your stay. :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: Yeah, if only!!

Forgot about the CSR thread - thanks. Personally, I could care less about a conference...tour groups is another story!!!

For the turbo toilet noise, I've always just closed the the sliding door to the room with the toilet and then closed the bathroom door. It's really helped.

For tour groups, I know that January and July are big, Pop Warner is usually first week of December. It would be great if there was one website listing them all.

Good luck!

Interesting! We did not have a sliding door at VWL, just the bathroom door, but that is a great suggestion for rooms with the option.
:thumbsup2
We stayed at the POP Century for Mousefest twice when POP Warner was there and although I was happy when they left as they are teens and enjoy late nights ;), they never had an impact in the parks - although I did hear some grumbling about this the last couple of years so it may have changed. They are usually involved with competitions until later in the week though.

I am having trouble wrapping my mind around a summer stay at WL - it appeals to me more as a holiday and/or winter resort. Anyone else feel this way? Just wonderin'!

The highest floor in WL is 7(all club level)

At VWL is 5.

Brian

Thank you!

It's not just Disney hotel toilets! I travel a lot for work and the toilets are loud at many hotels. I actually like Disney hotels because at least the noise is usually related to people having fun, coming and going to the parks, talking about their day. But when I travel, it's all business folks and all I hear is toilets and THUMP THUMP THUMP from what I can only assume are the largest people on the face of the earth pacing in their rooms for hours.

I'd rather hear the children running down the hall - early in the evening of course :)
