The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Morning friends!!:)

Heading out to run errands and hit the gym...I will BBL

Supper is something with ground turkey....I will figure the rest out as the day goes on, lol.

Good morning everyone!

I'll be back later to catch up. Dinner tonight will be spicy shrimp cakes with a roasted corn and avocado relish and sauteed cabbage.

We are having shrimp and avocado today too...stir fried in a tamarind sauce with crispy shallots, hot peppers, and jasmine rice. I have a head cold so I want something spicy.

Marisa -- That is just so sad about those boys. I'm so glad they have you to advocate for them.

Robin -- Those pizzas looked great! Aimee has checked in on FB a couple of times. Last I read, she is doing as well as can be expected at this point.

Wendie -- Good luck to Ross!!

Vickie -- I laughed about how you tricked your boy. I'll have to remember that one.

Alex is very protective of what he decides makes good leftovers. God help who ever takes his leftovers pirate:
 That sounds like my brother.

Marilyn -- I hope you don't get flooding again. I would rather you keep the snow as well.

Gretchen and Wendie -- Don't be too impressed by the sewing yet. Remember, the machine is still in the box.

Today is our takeout day.

Turns out more than the mouse, computer crapped out on me. I'm at the library returning stuff and thought I'd let you know. I'm hoping I can save the pictures. The tower turns on but not the monitor, mouse, or keyboard. My IT girl (sister in law) is in a different timezone, so I'll call when she's up.
This comes a week after my mother in law offered to get us a laptop for our birthdays but we said ours was perfectly fine. On top of that my toe hurts, our cable went out but a few channels, have to call on that one, and I have a big zit on my chin. I need a vacation, oh wait, that will add a whole new level of stress.

I'll check in when I can, our birthdays are a little while away, so it might be a bit of a wait on the new computer
Chicken, pioneer woman crash potatoes, salad for dinner.

Thanks all for the prayers for DM. She just got home and said she made out well. I will find out details tonight when I am there. I wanted her to be able to rest now.

WFD- sausage lasagna, garlic bread, and salad. ( cooking at my parents, I had the lasagna in the freezer.)

DH is going to the PC basketball game so he will be eating at a pub in the city before.

Good morning friends - I feel like I haven't been here in forever but have been reading along on FB when I can (on my phone email notices). I felt up to sitting in a chair for a bit and holding the laptop though I think it'll wear me out for the day. Things are progressing okay... much harder than I thought but hopefully worth it in the end.

No word on discharge; sometime this week I guess. I could probably get him to send me home Thurs but DH got a JOB :woohoo: :yay: :dance3: and has to head to Dallas for testing and background checks during the day. So, I'm not sure when I'll get to go home :confused3

I wish we could really celebrate his new job but it'll have to wait until I am feeling better. He's been unemployed since October 2008 so this is a big deal.

More later when I feel up to it.

Oh - WFD last night was a few bites of cream broccoli soup and jello. They are bringing me "regular" food so I can see what I might be able to tolerate, the surgeon trusts I can make the right decision, and they keep soup at the nurses station if I need it. My appetite is back, just scared to eat much. I've read tons of food magazines and have a LIST of recipes I want to make - plus I've watched hours and hours of Food Network.

Laura - I'm impressed that you know how to use the machine. In the box or not.

Ann - Glad your mother did well.

Sheryl - I hope you make it to the parade. Are you still planning on the vacation? Or were you able to rent the reservation? If you are going, I have a strange favor to ask. In the BLT rooms, there was a pamphlet with the room bedding for sale. Would you please get me the phone number or the web site? My silly husband fell in love with the mattress and wants to know how much they sell for. Thanks.

Robin - You need a hug, or a drink, or a vacation, or at the very least, some good chocolate. I hope your computer situation (along with your other issues) are resolved quickly.

Wendie - The house is at a standstill. The appraisal came back MUCH lower than the costs to build. We are now back at the drawing board. I would have thrown up my hands and quit by now but Kenny is tenacious and positively determined that he is going to find a way to make it work.

Michelle - How is your neighbor doing?

Aimee - I was posting while you were. Great to see you!!! You sound like you are doing really well and congrats to your DH on the job!!!!! I'm so excited for both of you. Hopefully you'll be celebrating soon.

Dinner tonight is bbq ribs and corn on the cob. Hubby request.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Hey y'all,

Robin, You need a hug! You poor girl! ( I forgot to mention how good your pizzas looked! I still have not figured out, how to get it from the peel to the stone in a round shape! Still tastes as good.)

Gretchen, YES we are going! We told Miss A last night & she was really excited! I was really worried because she just got a new puppy, I was worried she wouldn't want to leave it. So yes I'll check out the bedding brochure for Kenny!

Aimee, It's great to see a full post from you!!! Glad to hear your eating a little. I'm sure your feeling pretty awful right now, but I'm praying for you.
:cool1::banana::dance3: On the job!!!! That is great, I'm really happy for both of you!

I have no idea WFD. Still trying to figure out the parade stuff.

Hi there!~ Just checking in to see how Ann's Mom is doing and was happy to hear from Aimee. I have been keeping up but I keep losing my connection so posting is not good.

Not pushing my luck so I'll sign off and BBL!

We are having shrimp and avocado today too...stir fried in a tamarind sauce with crispy shallots, hot peppers, and jasmine rice. I have a head cold so I want something spicy.

WOW this sounds wonderful!!! Would you mind sharing the recipe? TIA.

Ann- glad to hear your mother did well

Aimee- sounds like you're on the road to recovery! I'm sure you'll start to feel a little bit better every day. Congrats to your husband!

Robin- your pizzas looked great. Definitely sounds like a day for chocolate and wine!

Gretchen- unfortunately my neighbor found out that he has a form of lymphoma that is not curable. It is very slow moving and can sort of flare up and then they can try to treat it each time but it will never go away. The "good" news is that each treatment isn't as harsh as it would be if you were trying to cure the cancer but the bad news is that it will inevitably be terminal. He was told it was lymphoma before they did surgery to remove a lymph node and find out what type and everyone (myself included) kept telling them that lymphomas are so curable that they really were just devastated at the news. I did bring them dinner last week after his surgery and have checked in with emails twice since with no response, I did tell her that I wasn't expecting one but was just thinking of them. I'm trying to find the fine line of being there for them while giving them the space they need too.

My spicy shrimp cakes are going to be made with tilapia instead because I thought I had some shrimp in the freezer but I was wrong. Or maybe I'll drag us out to the fish market a little later if I can motivate myself.

Robin – sounds like you’re having a rough time and could use one of these..

Ann – So happy to hear that Mom made out well.

Aimee – So happy to hear from you, please take it slowly. I am thrilled that your DH has a job, I know how excited you both must be!

Michelle – I continue to keep your neighbors in my prayers.

Aimee - glad you are feeling a bit better and starting to eat. I know a few months from now you'll be glad you did this! Congrats to your hubby! I'm sure that will relieve some stress from you as well. Good luck to him!

Marilyn - I hope you don't get too much more snow. And I really hope you don't have to deal with any flooding.

Ann - I'm glad your mom did good with her surgery. I hope her recovery is quick.

Sheryl - I'm excited that you are still going to WDW. Are you getting excited? I hope you have a fun time.

Robin - hugs to you.

Laura - I forgot earlier to add my congrats for Liam so here they are :cheer2: :woohoo:

Dinner last night ended up being a rotissiere chicken I picked up along with some rice and veggies. I'm not sure about tonight as I'll be at the Saints parade, and don't know what time I'll be getting home. It's passing right in front of where I work. The crowds started lining up around 10:30 this morning and now there's music playing and a party atmosphere building. It's wicked cold outside, too, the wind chill is supposed to be in the 30's by this evening. If I get any good pictures, I'll post them.

Afternoon all--

Ross has friends over again today, they are all spread out in the family room on their laptops, "chatting" to their friends they just left on FB.......:rolleyes1

Aimee--I am so happy that DH found a job...I know this is a great relief for you both!! I am glad that your appetite is back, slow and steady my friend, you are doing great!!!

Robin--I am sorry your having a stressful time!!!

Sheryl--I am glad you are going on your trip, I know it is a lot of work, but I think the change of scenery will do you good! Glad Miss A was excited! What kind of puppy did she get?

Gretchen--I am so sorry your having house issues....I am sending pixie dust that Kenny is able to figure things out so the plan stays on focus! If I can do anything even lend an ear let me know!

Marilyn--Maine won't hardly get a thing from this next system, it is going to go just south of us...I think Becky and Laura will get a good hit though....we have bare grass everywhere you look.....I don't mind as it will make less of a snowpack to melt in the spring, but the snowmobilers and those that make their money off them could use more snow.

Ann--I am so happy to hear that your DM made out well today!!!

Laura--the fact that you even own a sewing machine impresses me.....I have 1 needle and 1 spool of thread....

Michelle--Prayers for your neighbor...you are doing a wonderful thing, reaching out without overstepping.....I can't even imagine how overwhelmed they must be.

Lauren--My thoughts are with you today!

Kat--Are you going to the parade?

Ok I have to get some things done....

We are having turkey burgers (no buns) with stuffing, fresh green beans and asparagus with feta.

Wendie - No, we're not going. It's really cold and windy outside and my luck I'd get sick and miss my trip on Friday. I'll be packing while watching it on TV!:goodvibes

Michelle - prayers for your neighbor.

Gretchen - If anyone can find a way to make it work, I'm sure its Kenny. Prayers and pixie dust!

Lauri - Can I use your Saints Championship logo in my sig?

Go for it!

Aimee, so happy to hear from you. I was hoping you posted. Praying for a smooth recovery. Great news about DH!!!!!!!! Ann, prayers for a speedy recovery for DM. Please post after you see her. Sheryl, I hope you made it to the parade! Can't wait for FB photos. Lauren, prayers continue. Nan & Marisa, still shaking my head over those kids. Gretchen, no house "issues" allowed (please) . Ellen, did you get the info.? What do you think? Laura, congrats to Mr. Liam! We are having snow in Chicago......I have a stomach virus & want to go HOME!!! Emily is giving me a patience test this week & so far I'm passing.
