The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

NOLA girls I just received an email for a cruise sailing from NOLA!!!! Just 3 nights but really cheap!!!!!! Could I convince anyone they "need" to go";)

I am not an actual NOLA girl, but I love to cruise and I have some extra vacation days. If your wouldn't care if I tag along, I would love some more information.

How is your Aunt today? Prayers are with you all.

Maria- sounds like a very painful dentist visit. I also did not know that teeth had ligaments. Ouch!

We did go out tonight but the man-cold was in full swing. I was reminded several times that he did soldier through a (half) day at work and was now at Target even thought he was "sick." And when I wanted to run into one more store he chose to wait in the car and "rest." And for the record this is one of the mildest colds I have witnessed and I think the term sick is quite a stretch. Of course I thought all of this in my head while making the appropriate sympathetic comments to him.

The man cold is the pits, but your story really made me chuckle. Bless your heart!!

Yes, peas and paneer in a basic curry sauce. I have the leftovers in my laptop lunch for today. We'll have to see what the TSA dogs think.

Here's last night's dinner. Mozarella spedini in bagna cauda with a salad:

You told us yesterday that for dinner you were going to just have a sandwich. NOW that is a sandwich. Not at all what I had pictured and NOTHING like my sandwiches. :lmao:

Laura ~ The play that Doug is in is called "Leading Ladies". It is supposed to be really funny. I have helped him with his lines some and it looks really cute.

Kat ~ I am so glad you are feeling better today. You have a BIG weekend ahead of you and you NEED to feel good.

Wendie ~ Give yourself some time my friend. Thoughts are with you. That bomb scare must have played with your last nerve. Take care my dear friend.

Sheryl ~ :cheer2: A :cheer2: what a great grade on that test. Way to go!!

Glynis ~ how are you this morning? Still alive and have a house?

Be real careful out there my East Coast friends.

It is a total ice rink out there this morning. I just about hit a man. He walked out between 2 cars a sauntered across the street. I braked and started to fishtail and slide. I knew I would hit him, so I started honking my horn. He looked at me like I had 5 heads and flipped me off. Oh Oh OH if I was 6' and 250 I would have stopped and shook the feathers out of him. Not a great way to start my morning.

We have a basketball game tonight and we have already decided that we are smuggling in Subway sandwiches. We are such rebels. I just can't eat another hot dog tonight.

My mouse and I aren't getting along very well, so I'll try to make this quick. At least I hope it's the mouse and not the whole computer.

They do the parade at Disney every year they air the superbowl on ABC. Of course the the year we were there it wasn't on ABC. It's because of the "You just won the superbowl, what are you going to do now?" Player responds:"I'm going to go to Disney."

Marilyn- It sounds like you are going to need more chips and dip! We always keep the grill tank full now. Lesson learned after a week of peanut butter sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Kathy- Glad your feeling better. Is Kyle going on vacation with you?

Vickie- So glad you're going to Wilderness Lodge. I could (and do) spend hours sitting in front of their fireplace enjoying my crappy disney coffee.

Maria- Sorry about the tooth, that stinks.

Sheryl- Nice job on the spelling test, she must be so proud of herself- as she should be.

Michelle- Sounds like we all had a turn with the mancold this year. Hope it's over quick.

My kiddo calls my mil mommom, I had never heard it before she picked the name. I didn't know it was so commen. My brother and I had real clever names for our grandparents, gram and pop for one set and gram and poppop for the other.

Rostisseree chicken for dinner, with a starch and veg of some sort.

Sounds like everyone else has suffered through the man cold too. I always have to bite my tongue to not got off on the whole "do you think I get to rest when I'm sick" routine. Of course Mike is a doctor too so you would think he might realize that there are truly sick people in the world but I think the man cold defies all logic!

Laura- I do sometimes wish fate would land Mike alone for a few days with a cold and a needy child at the same time. I don't think he'll make it very long until he calls in reinforcements and then says "but I was so sick."

Becky- could you post that recipe, it looks delicious.

Ellen- I'm always shaking for a few minutes after I slip on the ice like that. Glad everyone was OK.

Kathy- have fun going out tonight.

Dinner tonight is spicy honey chicken thighs over israeli couscous and roasted cauliflower.

Morning Y'all,

Thanks all for the kudos to A! Surprising that she did so well, probably all our kids down here are confused! When they see go spelled "Geaux" all over the city!

Kathy, Glad you're feeling better! Have fun visiting with "the boy". :goodvibes

Becky, WOW that is some sandwich!!! :worship: Recipe please. I sent Bob the link to this page on skype.
He said "She's the Hugh Hefner of Food Porn!!"

 I don't think you'll want to keep that title. :rotfl:

Robin, I sure am hoping to hear "Drew Brees you just won the Super Bowl! What are you going to do now?" :dance3:

Ellen, What's on your black & gold menu?

I'm afraid I'm not following a theme for game day food. Local store had prime rib on sale & DH requested that.

Dinner tonight will be leftover short ribs, still have that because DH wouldn't share!

Anyone had any news on Aimee?

Hey quick fly by...

We are just back from visiting my nephew,is a wee bit better.

He is eatin a bit so has more energy but we only stayed 45 mins and he was ready to sleep as we left, poor wee scone is so peely wally !!

Thank you again for your concern xx

I need a wee bit more love ower the water....

One of the boys friends (17) from dancing has got beaten up so bad he is in hospital.

Why ?

Because he is gay.

He is a great young man and the boy is really friendly with him,I also know him well because he works at our hairdressers.

The Boy is so upset, confused and angry.

Im so mad my boy is hurting because of sick, sad, uneducated idiots.

This god forsaken ,narrow minded, wee back water of a country makes me so ashamed at times.

Ellen – I agree with you, my sandwiches don’t look anything like that, isn’t she amazing?:worship: What a close call, glad no one was hurt this morning.

Robin – Oh no Kyle won’t be going. He wouldn’t miss Mardi Gras for anything, even WDW. When I was his age I was the same way, now I can’t wait to get the heck out of town!

Sheryl – That Bob is too funny!!!! I was going to do “football food”, wings and pizza, but we decided to just do NOLA, so I’m making a gumbo and potato salad. That prime rib sounds great. I probably won’t see much of my boy until Sunday, he’ll be parading!

Sheryl -- Congratulations to A on a great spelling test!

Kathy -- Have fun tonight! The weather forecast for our trip had rain most days, but we really lucked out and it only rained one day. I hope that happens for you too.

Wendie -- I hope you are having a better day today.

Ellen -- Good luck with the rebellion tonight! ;) That play sounds familiar.

Robin -- I don't think mommom is that common a name. I never knew anyone who called her grandmother mommom, and now there are two people on this thread. Funny, isn't it?

Caili's class had a little presentation this morning of some plays they wrote. Afterward, Caili's teacher came up to me and said how surprised she was at how much Caili liked doing the play. As you know, Caili is a little reserved, but in the play, she was by far the loudest speaker and she was very animated. Anyway, the teacher suggested that Caili might enjoy acting. That is just what Caili needs...another activity!

We're having pasta tonight.

ETA: Vickie -- That is horrible about that boy! Some people are just idiots. I hope the ones who did it face charges. I am glad that your nephew is improving.

/
Vickie - Glad to hear your nephew is doing a bit better.

I'm so sorry to hear about the boy from dancing, what a horrible story.:sad1: It's not just your country, there is hatred everywhere, makes me so damn mad.

Laura - as soon as you started the story about Caili and the play I said to myself..."that's just what Laura needs".:rotfl2:

How are you doing? How's Kenny and the kids?

I'm doing fine. Just busy. The kids are all well right now and Kenny had his man cold last weekend. Same old, same old. But truthfully, I've reached a point in my life when I prefer the calm sameness of our routine.

Have you gotten any better news from your insurance company?

Someone just told me that there is the possibility of 36 to 42 INCHES!!! WTH!!!! :scared1: :scared::faint::faint:

Marilyn, I hope to goodness that is way off the mark! Stay safe and warm.

I'm thinking of all of you but this dentist appointment was horrible so the medication has begun, I have another trip to the dentist in 2 weeks. I have a ligament that is swollen & painful around a tooth & need oral surgery. Who knew teeth had ligaments?

Miss you too. But now I'm worried about you too. I had no idea teeth had ligaments. What kind of surgery? How long is the recuperation?

We did go out tonight but the man-cold was in full swing. I was reminded several times that he did soldier through a (half) day at work and was now at Target even thought he was "sick." Of course I thought all of this in my head while making the appropriate sympathetic comments to him.

:rotfl::rotfl: I know, Michelle. My husband is a horrible patient too and milks it for everything he can.

I had a really really rough day....am beyond exhausted, but just wanted to pop in and say I am so happy to see that Aimee posted. She better be resting. I will send a text tomorrow afternoon if we don't see another post from her.

Take care of you first. We'll be here after the Jack and coke. ;)

Ellen -- What play is Doug doing? Greg and I met doing community theater (Once Upon a Mattress ) but I haven't been in anything since having kids.

:lmao::lmao: That's hysterical!!!

Holy Cow! Talk about having no sense of self preservation! You'd expect a grown man to know better.

My mouse and I aren't getting along very well, so I'll try to make this quick. At least I hope it's the mouse and not the whole computer.

I hope so too. Changing computers is such a royal pain!

I need a wee bit more love ower the water....

One of the boys friends (17) from dancing has got beaten up so bad he is in hospital.

I'm so sorry Vickie. Sorry for the boy who was beaten and sorry for The Boy who is hurt because his friend was hurt for a stupid reason.

Robin – Oh no Kyle won’t be going. He wouldn’t miss Mardi Gras for anything, even WDW. When I was his age I was the same way, now I can’t wait to get the heck out of town!

:rotfl: I know what you mean. I used to think I'd love to go to Mardi Gras. Now that I'm older, I'd much rather go during a different time of year and enjoy the wonderful restaurants and see the sights when nine billion other people aren't trying to crowd into the same space.

Tonight's dinner is roasted chicken and potatoes, and whatever other veggie I throw in. Tomorrow night is taco night and from now on the 6th of every month will be taco night. That is the day we have to give Tory her heartworm medicine. She has been terrible about taking it and we can't shove it down her throat because the vet told us she has to chew it up. Well, we discovered last month that if we put it in a bowl with some taco meat, she ate it. :woohoo: So we're eating tacos every month, or at least until we get sick of it. And at that point, I guess I'll make tacos for the dog.

Me, I would have rolled down the window and told him what to do with that bird!

I now have a bag of tortilla chips and a jar of Buffalo Blue Cheese Dip.:rotfl: The girls and I went to Target, we needed bath stuff for them, and I needed to get the tortilla chips for Sunday. Saw the dip and had to have it.

Mommom is very common here in Baltimore.

.

Vickie- First, i am so glad the little one is getting better. I know it may take time but as long as he is on the right track.....
Now about that vicious beating...:sad1::sad2: I just don't have words. Is the young man going to be okay?

Sheryl- it came!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know you were worried but it arriverd fine. There was a little leak around teh seal but it is good to go!

Laura- Caili is an actress? Where will you fine the time :cutie:

Michelle- man cold and logic..............never in the same sentence :rotfl2:
Gotta run! The baby is crying and it is LOUD! BBL!

Vickie, I am so very sorry & saddened by this news. Prayers for all being said. That child must be in so much pain both physically & emotionally.

Vickie- that stinks!

I just bought a "Saints" jersey on YoVille on FB! :cheer2: It doesn't say Saints on it, its just black and gold.

Gretchen - Sammie used to love spaghetti & meat sauce and I'd always make an extra batch so I could freeze 12 small containers for pill day for the year!

Ugh....Ross just came through the door to express that he signed me up to make 4dozen cookies for the dance tonight.....I was just sitting down with a cup of coffee to catch up..............Good thing I love this kid..................off to get the mixer out........I should be able to catch up after the dance tonight we will be home by 9:30 or so.

Hugs prayers and love to all!!

Ellen, What's on your black & gold menu?

Well for starters I am having frozen margaritas with Gold tequila.

Black Bean dip with assorted dippers.

Youkon Gold potato skins

and Blackend spicy chicken wings with "That other color" bluecheese. :lmao:

Does that sound alright?

I am so glad to see that your nephew is better. But I am so sorry that the boy is having to see hurtful mean people. That just infuriates me.

Gotta love 'em. At least it isn't 10 at night and they let you know they need them by tomorrow. That is what my kids always did.

Seriously, that's a SANDWICH?? Wow. Looks mighty tasty!

Laura - congrats to Caili. And sure, you can fit the acting in, no problem :scared1:

Sheryl - congrats to Alexis!

Vickie - glad your nephew is better. That's very sad about that boy getting beaten. Regarding your ticker - ya'll are gonna enjoy WL. We stayed there in 2006 and loved it. I have lots of pics of the resort, although I don't know if any are on facebook. But I can load some there if you're interested.

Okay - so who all is going for the F&W this year? I had to cancel our trip, but with so many of ya'll planning a get-together, I might have to find a way if only for the weekend.

I know I missed lots of stuff, but I don't have the energy to go back thru 15 pages. Hugs and prayers to all that need them. Tonight's dinner is Chicken parmasean with spagetti and a veggie.

We have a lot going on this weekend so I may not get back on until Monday. Our superbowl menu is chicken gumbo, crawfish tarts, artichoke spread on baquettes, balsamic and honey chicken wings, chips and dip, king cake and strawberry daquiris.

Have a great weekend ya'll. GO SAINTS!!

ETA - Aimee did okay with her surgery, right?

That is just sick. Is his prognosis good? And did they catch the people who did it?

And it's not just your country where stuff like that happens. It happens in the States too. While we are very blessed compared to many other countries, we are not the diverse utopia that some people try to paint us as.

That is crazy about the driving on ice. :sad2: I'm assuming you regained control of the car before you hit anything?

Maria - I'm sorry your teeth are giving you such trouble.

East Coasters....stay safe with that nasty weather coming your way!

 to anyone else who might need it or if I forgot :guilty: you.

Hi all!

I am still planning our super bowl snacks. So far I have sticky honey soy chicken wings, Catfish hushpuppies and ??? I am trying to find a good potato skin recipe but it will most likely be just bacon and cheese and a little green onion. MR A talks a good game but his palate is still in the making ;)
