The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

I talked with my dad today and he is excited to see us....he also said the weather where he lives is to turn by Tuesday, and should be in the upper 70's when we are there....even if that doesn't happen I wear flip flops in Maine right up till the snow is above my ankles:lmao:
socks=cotton prisons for my toes!!

I've worn flip flops in snow before!

Now you'll find me in a sweatshirt and sneakers when it gets down to 60. :confused3

Watch the weather before packing the flip flops - it's been miserably cold in Florida lately! Ice pellets, snow, sleet, yuckiness.

She wears flip flops in the snow at home, don't think that is really going to bother her! ;)

Marilyn, I think he came clean so he could take the new coaching job.......Sad thing is everybody knew & just pretended it wasn't happening.

I heard talk that it's so he can get into the Hall of Fame. :sad2:

Quick good morning...so not awake yet. Dinner will be pot roast, carrots, potatoes and red cabbage in the crock.

I so hate shoes but I love flippies!!!!

Maria, I have a new email...I will send it to you.

Have a great day...BBL

Quick check in...I have errands to run this morning then going to visit my gram in the nursing home.
My mil wants to go with me so I have to go pick her up, she won't be ready when I get there, and will have this look of "you're here already", even though she know the time I am coming, so I should be ready for a drink by 1pm...my gram will like the visit of someone she doesn't see very often, so that is where my focus is...

Supper is going to be homemade pizza. Mine is on a thin whole wheat crust (the boys reg crust) and will have turkey bacon and turkey roni on it. What I don't eat can be quick breakfast for me the next 2 days and 2 slices is a 3 block zone meal.

I will be back later this afternoon/evening....have a great day my friends!!

Good morning!

WFD - Grilled chipotle lime pork chops, pasta and green beans...bbl.....

/
very different...very light..hollow, chewy and sort of eggy on the inside you can't put anything in them until they are done cooking, then when you break them open you can put butter honey jelly etc etc.....

Very good description Wendie.

***** See you on FB my friends!!! *****

Not sure what is for dinner today. Maybe leftovers.

Gotta get the kids to play rehearsal in a little while, so this is a fast post!

Dinner last night was just ok. The spinach needed more flavor. Gotta work on that! The meatballs, though, were amazing! Alan was thrilled with them! Lucky for him, there's plenty for lunch today!

Dinner tonight is a citrus grilled chicken with a large green salad.

Good Morning!

Welcome Carejo!

Bethany- keeping DH in my thoughts!

Wendie- The trip will all work out, "she" will be more nervous about you than you can ever be about her

Gretchen- You know how I feel about teen boys.................... either they let you know early on that they are teens like Patrick did and my own Donny did....or they blindside you like Daniel did! He went for years letting us think we lucked out and that he skipped those nasty teen things. Then at 17 he turned into that teen and let me tell you, Budy and I still have not decided which was worse. Knowing all along that the boy was :dance3: or waiting until we thought we were all set to find out he was :dance3:
Either way, they are both still alive, gainfully employed, fairly normal and we are still intact

Dinner last night was grilled cheese sandwiches. I will make something quick with the ground turkey today, I have a hair appointment this evening.

Laura- I am so impressed with Caili! I always enjoyed the videos, she was lovely on the ice, but Holy Smokes! She blossomed and you can really see her skating growth.

Thank you, Nancy. I really enjoyed your popover story.

Gretchen -- I am not looking forward to Middle School.

Bethany -- Wendie gave a good description of popovers. I think the recipe must be posted here somewhere, but I can type it in again later if you want. I have to check with Beck to make sure she still uses the recipe I have.

Wendie -- I hope you have a nice visit with your gram.

Aimee -- I hope something opens up sooner for you.

Today is our busy day, so pizza for the kids and leftover clam chowder from Sunday for me. BBL.

Good morning everyone!! I am back!! We had so much fun.

We were able to get out of here around 6 pm Wednesday night. It was slow going for a while, but about 75 miles west of us the weather broke and it was smooth sailing to Denver, then it took us 1 1/2 hour to go 45 miles. So scary - the roads were ice/snow covered and going up and down the mountain passes was a bit nerve wracking. We got to the Condo about 2:30 am. We unpacked and were all so wound up that we started a fire in the fireplace and sat and talked to 4am. Crazy - huh??

We stopped for Subways about 1/2 way there.

Thursday we slept till 9. Had breakfast and went and got our skis and lift tickets. We spent the late morning and afternoon at Keystone. Ethan and I had a ball playing in the kids area, staying warm in the fire pit and looking in the shops. We were back in the Condo around 6. We all wanted to watch the BCS game. We fixed a cheese and meat tray, hummus with crackers, sliced fruit with beer and wine. It was so much fun just sitting around.

Friday we were up early and Elizabeth, Ethan and I, hit the Outlet stores while Doug, Matthew and Stephanie went to Breckenridge for the day. We all had a great day. We met back up at the Condo got changed and went out to a Steakhouse - Red River Grill - for dinner. Steaks, shrimp, soup and pizzas around. We spent the rest of the night in the Condo watching "The Hangover". What a funny movie!!

Saturday we slept in a bit and got a late start. We went to Copper Mountain today. Doug, Matthew and Stephanie skied all day and had a ball. Matthew was so excited and Stephanie a bit scared and Doug had to prod them to do it - but they went down a Blue/Black diamond. WOW!! They were all so proud of themselves. Doug is the much better skier of the family but the kids are catching up. Elizabeth, Ethan and I went tubing. Oh we had a ball, but man oh man was I sore the next day. We left around 5 and went to change, then to Dinner at Mucphy's - an Irish Pub. Dinner was good and very expensive. Wow!! Back to the Condo and we all got our swimsuits on and hit the hot tub. It was so cold out but the water felt great. I bet we sat in there about 1 1/2 hours just watching the stars and enjoying being together. We drank 2 bottles of wine, so the good times were rolling.

Sunday we got up bright and early and packed up. We hit the road around 10:30 and we got home around 5:30. A great time was had by all and we are all ready planning next year. Looks like this will become a tradition. YEA!!!

I had roasted a turkey and had it in bags, and brought all sorts of food with us. We ate breakfast in the condo and packed sandwiches and fixings (chips, granola bars, fruit and cheese) with us to the slopes. We ate out every night - afterall this was my vacation too.

Well there is my mini trip report for you all. There was NO internet there at all so I was a bit bummed but it was ok.

Back to normal tonight and cooking - I have Bunko, so it has to be fast.

WFDT ~ Baked fish, roasted potatoes and green beans with bacon.

I missed you all!! I need to read back and catch up. I will BBL!! Jeepers, it is good to be back - I really did miss you all!!

Welcome Carejo.

It ended up costing $304 for the battery, $97 of it was the towing charge. :sad2:

Ah, bummer.

Who made those in the picture? Becky? Is there a recipe for these things?

Easy! Here is the recipe for popovers:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees with you popover pan in it (you can use a muffin tin in a pinch).

In a blender, combine the folllowing:

1 cup flour
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1 tbsp. melted butter
1/2 tsp salt

blend until very smooth.

Grease the hot popover pan and pour in the batter. Cook for 35-40 minutes, until browned and popped. Remove from the oven and poke a hole in each popover and lay it on its side to let steam escape. If you want a crunchier inside, you can put them back in the oven for a couple of minutes at this point.

socks=cotton prisons for my toes!!

I am the same way! I was marching around in the snow in my merrills the other day. The feet must be free!! :rotfl:

Here is dinner last night. I made a salad of arugula with pistachios, aged gouda, apples, cranberries, and bacon with a maple mustard dressing. It was good:

We also had chicken pot pie. I like to cook my puff pastry lid on a seperate baking sheet so that it stays nice and puffy:

WFD tonight: I have a mushroom-roasted pepper-chicken sausage-tomato stew that I made on Sunday. Not sure if I am going to serve it over polenta or pasta yet...we'll see.

See you there:thumbsup2

Bethany how did the job interview go for hubby or did I miss it?

WFD- Just put togather chicken soup for supper. Husband won't be happy cause as a lot of your husband have said soup isn't for supper but o well.
Everyone have a great day :grouphug: to all.

Help me out here NOLA people...describe a beignet? They're not particularly heavy, but they're not really light or hollow either. They have powdered sugar on top.

A piece of square dough, fried and then covered with a ton of powdered sugar. Best if served with cafe au lait.

And Bethany - there's a Pancho's in Metairie that has great sopapillos!!

:Promise to email the list before you go. I should be off nurse duty tomorrow so I can get it updates & sent.

Is it too late to get added to that list? I'll pm you my info.

Bethany any fried dough is a good thing!:thumbsup2

So true!! ;)

Ellen - welcome home!! Sounds like you all had a great time!

Becky - I might try that popover recipe - just to see what they are! Any bread in my house is a good bread! That salad looks yummy!

I think tonight we are doing turkey pot pie.

I was gonna say... Panchos isn't great food but they have the best sopapillos I've had. Here you can just drive through and order them.

I called the surgeon office and was told they rarely use a cancellation sheet but would add me just in case. He only sees people 3 afternoons a week so people typically keep their appt. She also said that he prefers to see a patient before scheduling the surgery but that the lead time is sometimes only a week and typically no more than 3 weeks. So, that was helpful at least.

We are having a salmon dish tonight but I can't remember what it's called?

I don't know what's for dinner tonight, as usual forgot to take something out! :sad2: I do have some eggplant from TJ's in the freezer and ricotta in the fridge so I may just make an eggplant lasagna.

My youngest DN just got her hair cut, she wanted it really short. Dsis said she had been cutting bits of it herself, they kept finding it all over the house. When confronted about it she said her sister had done it to her in the middle of the night. :rotfl:

WFD- Mince 'n' tatties for DH and the boy.

OKW or SSR ?? ....thoughts please lassies but sssshhhh...dont make it real

I don't know when you are planning this for. In 2011 SSR is planning a new pool that sounds totally awsome.
