The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Maria – Hoping Greg and DM get well soon.

Bethany – Good thoughts, prayers and pixie dust for Edi!:thumbsup2

Lauren – So glad you made out well with the dentist! I don’t mind going but even with dental insurance it has cost me a fortune the past few years.

Glynis – Hope your day is sunny and Katie is feeling better!

Robin – We all feel your pain with the sick hubby.:sad2:

WFD – White beans & rice, grilled green onion sausages.

Nice hubby! I hope you're feeling better today.

Thanks for thinking of me.

Lauri- you take it easy!

I did feeling better thanks.

My DH has a job interview today. :woohoo: If y'all wouldn't mind sending some prayers and pixie dust down this way, it'd be much appreciated! :grouphug:

Prayers said and best wishes.

Morning Y'all,

I can actually say without being overly dramatic, it's freezing outside!

LOL glad you didn't crack your windshield

Everyone have a great day :grouphug: to all.

Sheryl-No Hot Water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I always run the car for 15 minutes or so to warm it up and let the windshield defrost. For years Buddy did not, he would go out and hop in his truck with just a peephole to see through. I cannot imagine that! Now, in his old age he runs his truck to warm it up too.;)

Laura- I am so impressed with Caili! I always enjoyed the videos, she was lovely on the ice, but Holy Smokes! She blossomed and you can really see her skating growth.

Becky- Popovers! I remember my first popover every time you post the pics. My Dad took us to NYC for a trip just before my sister Pat got married. We went to the Top of the World for a meal and they served these heavenly confections in the bread basket......yup! Popovers! I was not old enough to be impressed that my Dad was a Chef, we actually did not want him to cook for us, we liked my Mom's cooking....and the fact that she managed to make a meal without using every pot and pan in the house! So anyway, there we were eating our meal ( I can still taste that Prime Rib) when the Chef came out and introduced himself to my Dad, asking about the meal. It was the first time in my life that I realized that the man we all took for granted knew "people" and more importantly, "People" knew him. Bet you did not know that your popovers make me smile and not because they are so pretty :cloud9:

Robin- I would never think you are heartless....I have been trying to hire my DH out knowing he still has back pain. And I have not been fussy about who I have been trying to pass him off to...............

Jake has dry skin/hives. He is staying home with his Daddy today. I did nto offer to take him this morning, I could have brought him to the Dr. I did not know what he had adn was worried becasue we have Kady adn Nola here.

Nola must be back to her old self, she and Welby came over for a few hours yesterday adn she was on fire! She had every toy out and was testing all afternoon :rotfl: No more potty training for a while either so she was all smiles. Welby said that if they did not come over she was going to hang her and had hid in her room for a while already that morning. Brian Had her and she was loaded for bear then too. :rotfl2: I told her that we are amused so she should come by, that is how toddlers stay alive to become teenagers.....:lmao:

It usually occurs with rich foods, red meat, excessive alcohol & being obese.
Greg could lose 15 lbs but that's it. One of the doctors mentioned they are seeing more & more of gout because so many people are on Statins or go off & on Atkins. Gregory does both.

My Mom has had 3-4 gout attacks & she is none of the above plus anti rich foods & has a drink maybe 5 times a year.

Aimee, I can take care of them. By now someone else would have put the pillows over their head.Lysol, ice chips, pill bottles, whining oh my!!!!!
Talk to you all tomorrow~

:rotfl:

Thanks for the info... Interesting about the diets.

My DH has a job interview today. :woohoo: If y'all wouldn't mind sending some prayers and pixie dust down this way, it'd be much appreciated! :grouphug:

You've got 'em!

Argg, it's my turn to have the sick husband. I don't know what I did wrong to deserve this, but it must have been pretty bad. Thank goodness he went to work today. Don't worry, I'm not sending someone contagious to work in an office building. He works outside and many times is by himself. I know that sounds heartless, but after yesterday's whining I really don't care. Besides, if he's really sick he won't complain, it's just a case of the sniffles.

The dreaded man cold. My thoughts are with you.

I took it easy this morning and came in around 11am. I have a meeting at 630 so I'll likely be here until 9pm anyways so I figure that counts as a full day. Since I have the meeting, DH is on his own for dinner.

Good Morning all. I apologize, I've been reading the last few days, just never got around to posting. I hope that everyone feeling under the weather gets better soon.

It's still really cold down here, it was 23 degrees this morning when I got up. Saturday, I made Brocoli and Cheese soup and yesterday I made Chicken and Andouille Gumbo. Tonight we are doing pulled pork quesadillas or empanadas.

Maria - hugs to Greg. I hope the meds work quickly and he's feeling better soon. And I hope DM and you are feeling better soon too! No fun being sick in a houseful of sickies!!

Gretchen - sounds like you are starting to make progress on the house. Good luck, and I hope it all goes smoothly!

Congrats again to Caili!! I really enjoyed watching the video.

Lauren - I'm not gonna say how long its been since I've been to the dentist, but I'd bet its longer than you. I hope you get an offer on your house soon. I'm enjoying watching the progress on the new house. It sure seems to be moving fast!

Aimee - I'm praying that you are able to get that surgery quickly so that you start feeling better. I agree with the others, you're doing the right thing holding info from your mom til the last minute. We always watch Food Network on Sunday mornings, in fact we DVR a lot of the shows!!

Bethany - prayers and pixie dust for DH.

Glynis - glad you got to lie in the sun yesterday! Hope you and Katie feel better!

I don't think I've ever had a popover before. But they always look mighty tasty!!

Sheryl- next time use a credit card, works much better then water. ;)

I am hoping my van is at the repair shop. Called for it to be towed this morning and they just come and pick it up, I didn't have to be there. Will give them a call in just a little bit to see if it has gotten there yet, the tow co. said they would call if there was a problem.

Dinner tonight will be fish, orzo and green beans. And probably a Mojito! or two... :rolleyes1

Just out of bed now:confused3

Glynis, hope Katie is better.

Robin, not the man cold?!

Bethany, prayers & pixie dust headed your way!!!Please keep us updated.

I have a turkey breast out I need to roast, baby carrots & baked potatoes.

Gretchen -- Did you post the fish recipe? If not, and you have time, would you? You know we love our fish around here.

I haven't posted it, but I will once I get home tonight.

Lauren, Your house sure is moving quickly! You must be excited. I'm happy you liked your dentist! I wish I could have veneers, but my dentist said No because I grind my teeth. That I would pop them right off. He also said that I will soon need to cap my whole mouth due to the damage I've done from grinding!:scared1:

I would be more afraid of the bill than I would the caps. Bless your heart Sheryl, that's horrible.

I am feeling better. I have no idea what is going on. One minute I feel like it is a cold all congested and then 2 days later I feel better. Must be the fastest cold germ in the history of germs :confused3

Tonight is Panko breaded chicken breast, rice and a salad.

Well don't look a gift horse in the mouth. ;) I'm just glad you're feeling better.

 No, I meant the most my hubby would know about building a house is how to hammer a nail to hang a picture. I assume Kenny would need to know basics about what it takes to build a house in order to be a sub? :confused3

He does know the basics even though he isn't doing the actual work. He grew up in a hardware store and understands how the stuff works, so he can look at the work and tell whether or not they are doing a good job. I told him he was on his own. I don't know any of that stuff and don't want to. But I am happy that it can save us so much money.

Maybe that's why my boss has attacks of the gout. He is a little overweight but doesn't drink very much, but he has done the Atkins diet several times now.

Thinking about you and hope you are feeling well enough to be the nurse.

My DH has a job interview today. :woohoo: If y'all wouldn't mind sending some prayers and pixie dust down this way, it'd be much appreciated! :grouphug:

You got it. I hope it goes well for him today.

Gretchen - If you could post your oven fried fish recipe I'd appreciate it! I love fish and chips, but hate the mess I make frying in oil!

I'll post it tonight when I get home.

 I don't blame you one bit! Kenny drives me insane when he is sick. Even if you have to deal with him tonight, at least you got a couple hours off.

Which may or may not be a good thing, depending on your perspective. Kenny and I have been wondering if Patrick is going to live until adulthood. This morning when he told me AGAIN that he was moving out when he turned 18, I told him that it was only 3 years, 6 months and 24 days away. And yes, I am counting. :headache:

When Kenny was fussing at him this weekend about his poor performance on his exams (little to no studying), Patrick said he wanted to live with his mother. Kenny told him he may still be living with his mother when he is 42 if he doesn't start doing better in school. Sad, but true.

That sounds so good. We've been really cold here too and I love soup/stew when it's cold. Unfortunately I can't serve it often since my husband doesn't think it's a whole meal. :confused3

I hope the fix is cheap and quick.

Tonight's dinner is spaghetti and garlic bread. Patrick may be getting bread and water. ;)

I wasn't sure our son, Matt, would live past his teen years. But he'll be 25 in March, is married, and has a really good job that he enjoys. I do love him, but there are moments, still today, that I don't like him. I tell him that if he and Sara divorce, I'm keeping her and he's on his own!

I wasn't sure Bob was gonna go that route with the broccoli cheese soup, especially since its a cream soup, all blended. He wanted to add chunks of this that and the other! Now the gumbo, I make that with chunks of sausage and chicken and mine is a little thicker than normal gumbo, so he's okay with it!

Neat suggestion. I'm very lucky that I have a garage, so that's not a problem for me! I hope they are able to fix the van and it's not expensive. Enjoy your mojito, you deserve it!

Nancy, that is a nice story. Thanks for sharing.

I think my cold is coming back, gah! This happens to me sometimes. I get a cold, start to feel better, and then it comes back again! One year I think I had a cold for three months. :headache:

Dinner tonight is grilled chicken with spinach and mushroom saute on the side.
Thanks for posting...:welcome::wave:

I haven't either and I agree they look really good!

Nancy, Becky, and Laura...are popovers more of a Yankee or New England thing?

Lunch at DM was yum. Salads with gorganzola, pecans, and cranberries and crab cakes.

Lauri (LBKB), how are you doing?

Maria, sorry I missed your DM is under the weather as well. I wish I was closer to bring you all a big pot of chicken soup.

All it needed was a freaking battery!!!! :headache: I could have had my BFF's DH replace the dang thing for me! On my way to get it now.

Quick jump in.....I am so far behind...haven't posted since Friday...and not a moment to catch up right now either...I will be back on tonight to see where and how all are doing!!

Supper tonight is chicken stir fry for Kris and I and Ross has a piece of salmon left from his supper last night that I will serve him along with some stir fry veggies.

Oh and Popovers are huge here in Maine...more likely to find that in your bread basket at resteraunts then rolls or sliced bread.
The best ones I have ever had are at the Jordon Pond House in Acadia National Park. (the only resteraunt in the park). I even bought the popover tin they sell in their gift store so when I make them at home I have a feeling of being there, lol.
mmmm now I want to make some...sooo not zone friendly;)

Sheryl It never occured to me that you gals down in NOLA don't know how to get the frost off your windshield. It is such a common thing for us. I am just glad you did not learn an expensive lesson.

Aimee I am sorry you have to wait, at least it is this month.

Maria How are your patients?

Nancy I loved your popover story. It was amazing for me too to find that people thought my Dad was special too. We had many amazing letters from people when they heard he died very suddenly.

We have popovers here too just not in the bread baskets.

Gretchen It must be a man thing about soup not being a meal. I remember when I was first married and low on cash. I asked my husband about maybe eating a vegetarian meal one day a week. He thought that was a good idea until it came time to eat it. He was looking all over for the meat. :lmao::rotfl2:
