The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Maria – I’m so sorry to hear about Greg. How are you feeling?

Aimee – Sorry to hear you’re still feeling bad. The Food network is really good on Saturday and Sunday mornings!

Bethany – Glad to hear you are feeling better!

Gretchen – It must be so exciting building your house, I’ve always dreamed of doing that!

Sheryl – I can’t wait to hear about that seafood soup!

Sorry if I've missed anyone the past few days, things have been hectic and I'm skimming through really fast.

Maria, so sorry to read Greg is not well either. Send well wishes anad tons of love and prayers.

Gretchen, how exciting and hectic at the same time. I would love to build. Hope the stress stays at a minimum.

Lauren, still keeping DB in my prayers.

Aimee, :grouphug: hope the pain is better.

Lauren  and prayers continue for your brother.

Maria I hope you are feeling better. How is Greg doing?

Aimee I hope the day resting is doing some good.

I am feeling better. I have no idea what is going on. One minute I feel like it is a cold all congested and then 2 days later I feel better. Must be the fastest cold germ in the history of germs :confused3

Tonight is Panko breaded chicken breast, rice and a salad.

Her luck wasn't enough to help the Pats today though. Boy, did they look awful. Congrats to the Ravens, Marilyn. They played a great game.

Thank you, they really did play a great game!

Went out to get in the van to go to the store and it wouldn't start! :headache: I think it may be the starter, it won't turn over and makes a clicking noise.

Lauren- our first Kuerig broke. The guy said that we should not leave the little pod in it, that clogged it up I guess. He replaced it for us.

Lauri- you take it easy!

Marilyn- I am sending Marisa a call, she can talk to you about those classes. I think that all of the impact finished her knee off. She had lost a lot of weight but I wonder if water arobics would have been better until she shed more. Be careful.

I hear you on the potato problem. My Mil uses skim milk and a miniscule amount of butter, no salt or pepper., The kids won't eat there unless they have to.

Aimee- I told me son that there were times I need him to lie to me. If your Mom cannot change what is happening, if she cannot really help the situationa dn knowing that she is worried would make you more stressed...lie. Now the circimstancves I had this discussion with Donny were different. He had a friend who had been involved with a woman my age...she had kids and he was just in his early twenties. They brpoke it off and then he got involved with soem kinky people. We are talking bondage etc....use your imagination. His mom asked what was going on so he told her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She freaked out!!!!!!!!!!!!! I asked Donny why on Earth would he upset her and he said that she asked so he told her. That was when I told him if I ever asked him a personal question and that if the answer would upset me and I could not change anything....he must lie to me. This is nto so drastic....but you must fib. You can talk to us and we will try to do the Mom thing without letting your Mom worry.

Lauren-We will talk about the dentist .....I am afraid and it is not pretty. Marisa and Buddy could curl your hair with what they go through with me.

Gretchen-good luck tomorrow!

Maria- first.....you get better! A friend of mine had gout, it was very painful. I cannot remember what they did to make it better, let us know how Greg is but here's hoping it is fast!

Aimee- you had to be sick, I don't ever remember you missing Church. Get better soon!

Janice- glad you are on teh mend
Laura- I have to get to FB to see our caili! Congrats to her....did they ever burn that book?????

DInner was pot roast, mashed potatoes, carrots corn adn onion gravy

Greg has gout. They gave him 3 medications. He is less pain but still not close to better.
DM now has the stomach flu with fever & all the the stuff that goes along with it.
I feel crappy but no fever so that's good.

I was supposed to bring Lily to the vet tomorrow to see how she is doing but I will put that off a day so I can stay home with the other patients.....

Hope every one is well & staying warm:grouphug:

Aimee, heavens no, Kenny is NOT doing any of the actual hammering himself. He is simply cutting out the general contractor and hiring all the subcontractors himself. Because of the economy, a lot of the really good people are sitting around with nothing to do, so we have had our choice of the best cabinet people, framers, painters, etc. At first glance, we may save 25% over what the contractor quoted. You'll surely find out later on just how this affects my marriage. ;) Hopefully we'll both survive it.

 No, I meant the most my hubby would know about building a house is how to hammer a nail to hang a picture. I assume Kenny would need to know basics about what it takes to build a house in order to be a sub? :confused3

I can't believe he told his MOM that! I think part of that is a man thing. My DH will say stuff and I just want to stick my foot in his mouth!

With all of you sick, you need to call in a nurse! I don't know how you care for other people while sick yourself.

How does one get gout? I don't know much about it but am going to go Google!

That stinks, everyone feel better!

It usually occurs with rich foods, red meat, excessive alcohol & being obese.
Greg could lose 15 lbs but that's it. One of the doctors mentioned they are seeing more & more of gout because so many people are on Statins or go off & on Atkins. Gregory does both.

My Mom has had 3-4 gout attacks & she is none of the above plus anti rich foods & has a drink maybe 5 times a year.

Aimee, I can take care of them. By now someone else would have put the pillows over their head.
Lysol, ice chips, pill bottles, whining oh my!!!!!
Talk to you all tomorrow~

Good Morning! Quick fly by to wish everyone a good day...hope everyone uder the weather is feeling better.

WFD: Some easy and healthy with chicken breast.

xo

Good morning.

Congratulations to Caili! :cheer2:

Maria - I hope you and Greg feel better soon!

Aimee - I hope you feel better soon too!

My DH has a job interview today. :woohoo: If y'all wouldn't mind sending some prayers and pixie dust down this way, it'd be much appreciated! :grouphug:

Good Monday Morning!

Bethany - Good luck to your hubby!

Maria - Good luck dealing with Greg. Sorry about the gout! My BIL gets it and it turns him into an instant BEAR!

Aimee - I hope you feel better today.

Gretchen - If you could post your oven fried fish recipe I'd appreciate it! I love fish and chips, but hate the mess I make frying in oil!

Laura - I know I'm late, but congratulations to Caili!!!

I didn't post much this weekend, as I'm dealing with SAD, and some other stuff and just was too depressed to do much. I spent most of Saturday in bed. I'm feeling a lot better now. We actually had sun yesterday, so I spent most of the day, like a cat, lying in a pool of sunlight! It makes such a difference to my mood!

Today I'm kind of playing it by ear. Katie has had a sore throat for about 3 days. No fever though. I would like to take her to the doctor, but today is the first day of the second semester, and out of 4 classes today, 3 are brand new. I hate for her to miss the first day! Today is the day she'll get disclosure documents, class supply lists, etc. Hopefully, with some Advil and cold medicine, she can suck it up and go to classes today, and I can take her to the doctor tomorrow. No new classes, tomorrow!

I have to run to the grocery store today. We are out of all protein in the house! I'm not sure WFD though. I've been looking through the cookbooks I checked out from the library, and there are several recipes I want to try. I'll BBL to post what I've chosen.

Have a great day, everyone!

I am so glad you have teh sun finally1 it is horrible to be in the "dark" all winter long. Poor katie!
Greg has gout.

Oh No! You sure have your hands full, take care of yourself too, you are nto over whatever hit you.

Good Monday Morning! It is freezing here! Jake is not here yet, he has some sort of rash so he on his way to the Dr. His dad will call later. I am going to really push to get the rest of my chores done today even if it means I lock Buddy in a closet! Dinner will be something healthy today, I have to get back on track so I have ground turkey thawing. I hope to make bulgar casserole if I have any more bulgar wheat left. BBL

Morning Y'all,

I can actually say without being overly dramatic, it's freezing outside! I had to go help DH get the ice off the windshield. My bright idea was dumping cold water on it, which then froze! But then a couple more pitchers full did the trick. My neighbor was yelling across the street, Don't dump hot water on there, you'll crack your windshield! I'll bet there are a lot of cracked windshields around Nawlins today. We just don't know how to handle this. :confused3

Thank goodness, Chris took A to school this morning. So I'm back inside & will make that seafood soup today. My tree & decorations are still up! :sad2: My excuse yesterday was that the garage was too cold to get the boxes! I know I'm a cold & lazy bum!

Maria, I'm so sorry that Greg is sick & hurting! Sorry for him & even sorrier for you. ;) I hope he gets over this soon. Sad for your Mom too, I hope she gets well fast also.

Glynis, I'm glad you found a little spot of sun! I've realized that gray skies make me blue. I think I might go use DD's tanning bed (just a little) to see if that helps. Hope you & Katie feel better.

Nancy, Poor little Jake, I hope it's nothing serious.

Bethany, Prayers for your DH's interview!

BBL

Bethany, sending prayers for Edi's interview. Good Luck to him.

Maria, hope you and Greg are feeling better.

Aimee, thinking of you my hurting friend.

Getting ready to head out for the day to my parents. BBL later tonight.

WFD- what I call Portuguese sloppy joes and fries. (Chourico, hamburger, pepper, onion and a can of hunt's tomato sauce)

Argg, it's my turn to have the sick husband. I don't know what I did wrong to deserve this, but it must have been pretty bad. Thank goodness he went to work today. Don't worry, I'm not sending someone contagious to work in an office building. He works outside and many times is by himself. I know that sounds heartless, but after yesterday's whining I really don't care. Besides, if he's really sick he won't complain, it's just a case of the sniffles.

Bethany- Good luck to your husband, he must be really excited!

Ann- Those sloppy joes sound really good, I'll have to try them. I've gotten soy chorizo from Trader Joe's, it's not as good as the real stuff but a close second, and a lot less fat.

Sheryl- My sunporch still has a christmas tree in it and a very large Christmas village. It's unheated and the sun hasn't been out long enough to heat it up. It will have to wait until a sunny day.

Maria- I hope Greg is feelling more comfortable today.

Lauren- I'm so glad you went to the dentist. I went about five years without going and was sobbing like a baby when I went. I was convinced I would need teeth pulled and it would be awful. I spent a couple of years obsessing over my teeth, to the point of being depressed. It ended up I had four tiny cavities. I wasted so much time worrying when I could have been enjoying life. I'm so glad I went, now I don't even mind going. It does help I really like the staff, I don't even mind the forty minute drive to get there. I'm so happy that's one less thing for you to worry about.

Aimee- I wouldn't tell my mom either, when we were having our electrical problems they were across the country so I didn't tell them. There was nothing they could have done, but worry. I think you are doing the right thing, for both of you.

Off to have breakfast, leftover carrot cake pancakes from this months cooking light. They are really tasty.

Bethany, good luck to your husband!

Here are the popovers I made to go with the clam chowder:

Nancy -- I hope everything is okay with Jake. And no, they have not burned the book, but the judges did give the girls a break yesterday and gave them high enough scores to place first.

Maria -- I hope Greg and your mom are feeling better today, for their sake and especially for yours!

Bethany -- Good luck to your DH today!

Glynis -- I'm glad you got a little bit of sun. That does make a huge difference. I hope Katie makes it through the day and feels better soon.

I had to go help DH get the ice off the windshield. My bright idea was dumping cold water on it, which then froze!
 Turning the car on and running the defroster on high is a lot easier. Do cars in NOLA even have defrosters??

Robin -- I'm sorry you're dealing with the mancold. I hope he feels better soon.

Becky sent me home with a chicken pot pie yesterday, so I think I am having that for my dinner.

You kill me everytime you post your popovers! Gosh, I love them especially with my DM pop roast. Nothing like dunking them in gravy...ahhhhhhh, childhood memories.

----------

Robin, good luck nursing the man cold.

off to get me showered now, and out the door.

 Turning the car on and running the defroster on high is a lot easier. Do cars in NOLA even have defrosters??

This is what I first thought of. I always turn my car on about 15 to 20 minutes before I have to go anywhere during the winter. The defrost has time to work, and the inside of my car gets nice and toasty!

In fact, my car is heating up, as we speak.

I'm thinking something with pork chops for dinner. Whatcha think? Nothing concrete in mind, but pork chops sound really good!
