The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Maria Those lobsters and clams look soo good. I am glad you had a great evening.

I made it to the NY New years but passed out shortly after. It doesn't help when you wake up at 5:00 every morning.

I am not making too much headway with the cleaning I better keep moving. I want to put away the christmas stuff today.

I may have to talk to No 1 son about getting Toy Story It sounds like fun.

Good morning!

Does anybody know how to tell the difference between a run of the mill sinus headache (errr, face ache) and an actual infection? :confused3

Last night we did what a lot of you did....sat around in pajamas watching the crazy people crammed into Times Square in the cold rain. :rotfl: There were so many fireworks going off around here that it was smoky enough outside to feel it in your eyes and throat. Anabelle wasn't happy about that. It was just constant noise for hours, but it was kinda fun at the same time. We could see a lot of them. :thumbsup2

I would put a very warm wet washcloth over your face and sudifed. The warm moist air should hep in either case. The only way I knew when I had a sinus infection was a thick green discharge. Sorry for the discription.

I'm sucking down the champagne like there's no tomorrow. Kyle and I had a major blow up this afternoon and I guess I'm trying to numb the pain. They say no one can hurt you as much as your child and boy are they right.

Have a safe night everyone!

Oh Sweetie, they all do it and we all react. At least your boy is still a teenager. Mine with Donny was last year just before Christmas. I was headed for Costco and was going to have a reasonable Christmas but bought up every sweet in sight. I bought heavy cream and added it to everythign, ate every type of chocolate and added butter to anything I could think of:eek: And I had wine with everything I ate!

Buddy and I sometimes talk about how they can still, at their age be so thoughtless. We know they love us, as Kyle does love you, but for some reason these adult children have the power to say and do things, (or not do them) that they would never do with friends. Buddy quotes the *** and says it is because they know we are still a safety net. You love that boy unconditionally and he knows it, spoiling has nothing to do with it, it is the love that gives him permission to unleash. Today is a new day so I hope things are better, just remember that he loves you and is a good kid and you are a great Mom!

Ready for champagne......haven't had lobster yet & at this point not into cooking.
Just found out via FB that very good friends of ours are in NYC & we never even had a call. I'm really crushed.

I am so sorry that your friend is thoughtless! I am saving some Rosa and Nuvo for this evening and this weekend. I have no good reason, I am just a bit melancholy too.

She seems to be doing a bit better last night and today. Keeping the motrin is close by if needed. Thank you for asking.

I hope she continues to improve.

I hope the year is off to a good start for all of you! We were slugs last night, Buddy never even got out for our Chinese. I made Ham steaks and eggs and toast. WE never made it up to watch the ball drop, but it was all good. This morning Welby and Nola came by and we had coffee together. Now my poor Nola has a tummy bug. Brian came by for some "plain namby pamby no taste crackers" for her to see if she can hold them down. He is staying close to home to give Welby a hand with her.

I roasted a turkey and we are going to have it with mashed potatoes adn gravy, steamed haricots verts and corn and stuffing. Apple pie and Davids chocolate truffle cake for dessert.

I made some cream cheese and eggplant bruschetta on flatbread for snacks before dinner. Erica has a blueberry-pomegranate "belinni" (no peach in it at all, no booze either)and I am sipping raspberry martinis

We were to lazy to go out, so dinner is now Chinese which I am waiting to be delivered.

Maria, great food porn. I am so craving lobster.

Happy New Year everyone! We celebrated the new year in our PJs too...we're a very exciting crowd. I did make it to the ball drop and then went promptly to bed.

Dinner this afternoon was not a good culinary start to the year. Beck and I made seared salmon with wilted spinach and risotto-style orzo with a cream sauce, but the salmon was bad, so we couldn't eat it. We couldn't make anything else because I had to get Caili to skating, but fortunately, I have plenty of leftovers from yesterday, a refrigerator full of cheese, and lots of chocolate and cookies. I won't go hungry.

Kathy -- I hope everything is better today.

Ann -- I'm glad Emma is a little happier. It is so hard when babies are teething.

Maria -- Wow, your New Year's spread looked delicious!

Nancy -- Poor Nola. I hope she feels better soon.

Ellen -- The kids have Toy Story Mania but they haven't been able to unlock the 3D aspect yet, so they're frustrated with it.

Home from the zoo, getting ready to go to pick up the movie tickets for The Blind Side. The movie is at 8 but we are worried about it being sold out, I have a free one so I can't get them online. Dinner tonight will be whatever I can find in the fridge.

Will post pictures on FB later of the zoo trip, got some really great pictures today. Had to use my BFF's camera, I have lost mine. :sad2: Last time I had it was at my bosses house and I may have dropped it on the way to or from my van. I am still hopeful that the camera is sitting at her house somewhere and she just hasn't seen it.

Thank you so much Nan, I really needed to hear this. I don't think I've ever been this depressed.

Aimee ~ It is a blast. Just what I needed to have fun today. It is very similiar to the real thing. The games are the same but it does take getting used to the Wii controler compared to the pulley thing. But it is a lot of fun. I am so glad we got it.

Now I am going to fuss at you just a bit. I know you don't want surgery but sweetie you really need to look at it as a much better thing for you to do. You need to feel better and like the rest have said - things can so change in 2 years. More than anything don't put a price tag on your health. I know it is a concern but your health is priceless. We love you!!

I think I'm going to see if Blockbuster has it. We never rent games, but it sounds like something fun to do this weekend.

I talked to a guy on my Crohnnie board who went into remission for 20 YEARS after his surgery! Wouldn't that be awesome. I'm warming up to the idea... we'll see.

Does anybody know how to tell the difference between a run of the mill sinus headache (errr, face ache) and an actual infection? :confused3

I've had a head cold/chest cold thing for weeks that has not become an infection. I can tell 1) by fever 2) by the color of the discharge/mucus (icky!). 3) if I respond well to OTC meds like Sudafed, Mucinex, etc.

Hope you feel better soon

Starting the night~

I should have come to your house! Yummm!

Oh no. I hope you find it!! I've heard The Blind Side is fabulous; I'd love to hear what you think.

We're having Huevos Ranchero, or whatever the heck that dish is called.

I am out of the loop...not sure if I will ever be in it again...:sad2:

Aimee, I will keep you in my prayers that you will make the right decision that is best for you. You have been suffering so long...I hate to hear that.

Maria, Loved your pics. I am so sorry your friends did that.

We had a really quiet night last night and fell asleep about 9:30! Andrew woke us up at midnight though.

I am heading home tomorrow. Probably in the early afternoon. I am not a good night driver (I tend to nod off) so I try to leave as early as possible but we have to go to the model and see the saleswoman.

Have a great night all!

PS: I have Tom doing laundry...he has not done laundry for me in a while so I am .

Oh no. I hope you find it!! I've heard The Blind Side is fabulous; I'd love to hear what you think.

Me too, I really do not have the money right now to buy a new one, have to pay the van registration ($200) :headache: Using her camera makes me want one like it and I definately can't afford that kind! :rotfl:

The movie was great, lots of funny parts. Also sweet and sad at times too.

Happy 2010, everyone! It's been a busy couple of days around here, filled with company and lots of food and fun!

Aimee - I'm so sorry that you are having to make this decision, but really, I think the surgery might buy you some time!

Kathy - Sorry about Kyle. You know you are a good mother, we know you are a good mother, and deep down, Kyle knows you are a good mother. Give yourself a big hug from me, ok?

Maria - I'm so sorry that your "friends" treated you so poorly! You guys deserve better. Your NYE feast looked yummy, and I'm not so fond of lobster and clams.

Ellen - Hugs to you at this tough time. My mom picked her day to die, as well. I had just spent a week with her, and watched her decline, but she hung on until Alan came and brought me home. That was on a Sunday, and by Tuesday night, she was gone. She and I said our good byes that Sunday, and as I was kissing her, I knew that it was for the last time, and as I looked in her eyes, I could see that she knew it, too. At first, I was angry that I wasn't with her at the end, but deep down, I knew that she didn't want me there. She wanted me to remember her as she was when I was with her, not as she was the night she died. Mom's always try to take care of us, don't they?

For everyone with the Toy Story Wii game, my kids just unlocked all the 3D games, and they are having a ball with it! Even the twins have mastered the game, and love it! It's been fun to sit and watch them!

NYE was a great day for us! We met up with our friends at Hill Air Force Base, and toured their museum. The volunteers even let us go in some of the aircraft. It was really cool, but of course, I forgot to bring the camera in. Oh well. It was still fun! After that, we went to Wendy's for lunch, and then to the Olympic skating rink for an afternoon of ice skating. I didn't skate, but the rest of the bunch did, and they had a great time.

Last evening, we all gathered at my house for our traditional NYE dinner of fondue. We had cheese fondue, pizza fondue and chocolate fondue. It was yummy!!! There were also cheese balls with crackers, Chex mix, candy and all kinds of munchies! Jacob, Leslie and Mary conked out before midnight, but the rest of us went into the backyard and banged pots and pans, and lit sparklers. It was a lot of fun!

This morning, I was awake by 6:00 and got breakfast made for everyone. I made a hash brown/scrambled egg casserole, brown sugar coated bacon, and cinnamon rolls. We had hot chocolate and cider to go along with things. People finally started waking up around 10:00, so it was really more of a brunch when all was said and done. We then spent the rest of the day playing games and watching movies. Great fun!!!

Dinner tonight was leftover fondue. Guess I have to go back to the real world starting tomorrow, and start planning meals again. Wish me luck on that! My New Year's resolution is to cook more healthy meals this year. Alan wants to lose quite a bit of weight, so I'm planning on helping him out. If I start asking for your weight watcher's recipe favorites, help a gal out, ok???

Good Morning!

Lauren- don't worry about catching up, you have a lot going on. There will be time another day when you have all this moving stuff taken care of.

Glynis- Back to the real world :lmao:. There is no such thing for me lately! I know that after this weekend it is back to normal for me too, as normal as we get anyway.

We are all getting together at IHOP this morning to indulge me in my pancake craving. I have to start eating better on Monday so I am having the food I want before then.

Dinner is out tonight. My DBIL finally got his annulment so Janice and he are having their marriage blessed and then taking us all out to dinner. I think we are taking Kady to 4 PM Mass this afternoon and then zipping over to St Mary's, where DBIL's cousin is a priest. He is performing the Affirmation at 5.

I'll catch up later on but hope you all have a great day!

Thank you so much Nan, I really needed to hear this. I don't think I've ever been this depressed.

Didn't like reading this. Call me if you need to chat.:grouphug:

WFD- going to go the store this afternoon. I want seafoood or beef. I am so tired of pork & chicken.

Good Morning, I am heading out today in a snow storm...Kathy or anyone else that needs to talk, I will have some time.

xo to all.

Good morning.

My power just came back on! :cool1: It was out for almost an hour. It's not stormy...blue skies, no wind. :confused3

I hope everyone has a nice day.

I am sitting here reading and wondering what is "normal". I've decided "normal" for me is chaotic:rotfl2: I don't think I would really have it any other way.

Kathy Hopefully today is a better day for you and Kyle

Lauren Be careful I hope the snow is not so bad. Just go slow. I am sure you know how to drive in this stuff  Don't worry about not being able to keep up, I can't either just jump in when you can.

Nancy Sounds like 2010 is starting to be a good year for your family.

Bethany When the power goes off I always look around at the other homes to make sure I am not the only one. Once it was because I forgot to mail my payment. :rolleyes1 I guess they don't care about good intentions :confused3

Today I need to get laundry done. I was lazy yesterday I did get all my decorations down and packed away but not nearly what I wanted to accomplish. So today is another day we will see ;)

:lmao::rotfl: Funny you mention that...I was online, heading to Entergy to pay my bill! :rotfl2: It's not due until Monday, so that is NOT the issue! They have been doing some road construction in the area. I suspect they may have something to do with it. :rolleyes1

And I know it wasn't just me -the next door neighbors have something that beeps - incessantly - when the power cuts out. :headache:

At least I got some stuff done that was on my to do list that I needed to get off the computer to get done!

Thanks to all for the support.:grouphug:

I'll spend the day taking down Christmas decorations so Johnny & I are going out to dinner.
