The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

I made a giant meat sandwich for later this evening too. My brother is trying to claim the entire thing for himself...all five pounds of it!

PS: Laura's cookies are yummy!

:lmao::lmao:

Well, I saw my GI this morning. He said I'm out of options. Happy Freakin' New Years to me. DH went with me... which was nice, as the GI drew pictures for us on the exam table paper and showed us on the diagram everything he knows is going on. DH never goes to visits with me so he got to hear everything from the GI himself. GI says I need to have the surgery... the drugs aren't going to fix anything at this point and there is too much scar tissue. I can continue with my current lifestyle and sucking down Vicodin - and likely spiral into an obstruction at some point - or have it cut out. The surgery is not a cure; 80% have more disease activity within 2 years but it would buy me 2 years and get rid of the scar tissue. In other words, it would give me a fresh place to start building scar tissue again  He did say I did well to last this long. 80% have surgery within 5 years of diagnosis. I've gone 6. I'd like to go 60

I was tearing up in the exam room but wouldn't give the go ahead. My ins is changing and I have no idea what that means yet. It's not dire so we made an appt for 3 weeks so I can check back in, go over the "plan" again, and I'll know what coverage I will have before saying okay for the surgery consult.

DH thinks I should do it. I feel backed into a corner and am stressed about the money aspect.

:grouphug:

Aimee- take some time to think about this, you have the right to digest all the information and then make a decision that works for you. I hate to think that you are going to have to endure surgery but remember that two years from now can mean more open doors, better treatments and more options. For now sending you Hugs!

Happy New Year's for another couple of losers. I am in my jammies sipping wine and am pretty happy about that! My kids are getting together for some food later on after the guys get out of work, all but Donny. I have no idea what he is up to tonight. Welby asked us if we wanted to come over for dinner but we are just happy to be hanging here. So far neither one of us has headed out for dinner ;)

Anyone know what those sparkler things do in Farmville?

Aimee Loser here too. :rotfl2: We are just going to watch movies and play games trying to stay awake till midnight.

Guess we're losers also:thumbsup2

I will be dining in bright pink pjs & happy to be doing it.

Nan, when you hit them it will give you an option to "ignite" them.

Soon I am going to go wash my hair and put on my sweats. Then the party can really get started :lmao:

Aimee - I agree with Nan, two years will probably give you many more options. Taking vicodin for a long period of time can't be good. I, also, hate to suggest a surgery but take a good look at the situation and know that we're all here to bounce info off of. Not that we'll be of much help, but we'll all try.

I'm sucking down the champagne like there's no tomorrow. Kyle and I had a major blow up this afternoon and I guess I'm trying to numb the pain. They say no one can hurt you as much as your child and boy are they right.

Have a safe night everyone!

Ready for champagne......haven't had lobster yet & at this point not into cooking.
Just found out via FB that very good friends of ours are in NYC & we never even had a call. I'm really crushed.

Kat, so sorry.

Aimee, I have to say maybe it's time for your surgery sooner than later. Your a smart girl you know all the issues with long term pain meds.

Janice you know how to party:thumbsup2

Kathy I suppose my day is coming. Take is easy on the champagne there is a lot of night ahead.:upsidedow

Thanks  And I'm so sorry about the run in with Kyle. Crappy way to spend a holiday.

That's hurtful.

Aimee, :grouphug:so sorry news was not good.

Kat, hope things with Kyle are better today.

Maria, some people dont even think. Sorry your feelings were hurt.

Happy New Year everyone!!

I'm sure things with Kyle will be fine today. I guess I am to blame that he is spoiled rotten.

WFD - Spicy Bourbon ham, baked mac & cheese, blackeyed peas and rice and smothered cabbage.

Happy New Year!

Tonight we are having oven fried chicken, collards and black eyed peas. I need all the luck I can get :rotfl:

Kathy  I spoil Alex also. It is hard to say no.

I am doing my New Years clean. Wish me luck, Last year I found some money I forgot about :thumbsup2

I'm awake! Going to take the kids to the zoo today. The "baby" panda Tai Shan is being sent to China soon so we want to go see him one last time.

Later today I am taking my oldest DN to see The Blind Side.

 to those that need them.

I am up, just barely, and watching the Rose Parade. I love watching parades.

Last night was so much fun. About 4, Doug walked in the the kitchen (I was off at noon) and handed me a package. He had gotten the new Toy Story Mania for the Wii. I had really wanted to get it but just never got around to it. I was so excited!! We put it right in and played till about 7 and then went out to our favorite bar for dinner. We came home and watched the end of the football game. We tried so hard to stay up till midnight, here in CST. We did see the ball drop in NYC but we crashed soon after. So all in all for not having anything planned we had a really great night.

Not much planned for today except watching the parade then football.

WFDT ~ Beef stew is in the crockpot and bread is in the machine.

Happy New Year my dear dear friends.

Dinner tonight is marinaded flank steak, asparagus & fried herb goat cheese.

Is it fun? How similar is it to the real thing? I've looked at it, too.

I am up watching the Rose Parade on the giant TV upstairs while DH is watching football downstairs. Love this new arrangement!

I want to drive to Homegoods today; still working on this gameroom and have a few events planned at my house in the next couple of months so I want to get it finished. I've been working on this space since we bought the house 4 years ago and still haven't found exactly what I want for every part of it.

Course I say I have events scheduled here... if we throw a major surgery into it, I'm not sure what will happen? :confused3

I am not doing anything traditional for dinner... though I do love blackeyed peas, I just didn't think to pick any up. We'll have huervos ranchero, or orange chicken, for dinner. Let DH decide.

Aimee ~ It is a blast. Just what I needed to have fun today. It is very similiar to the real thing. The games are the same but it does take getting used to the Wii controler compared to the pulley thing. But it is a lot of fun. I am so glad we got it.

Now I am going to fuss at you just a bit. I know you don't want surgery but sweetie you really need to look at it as a much better thing for you to do. You need to feel better and like the rest have said - things can so change in 2 years. More than anything don't put a price tag on your health. I know it is a concern but your health is priceless. We love you!!

Kat ~ so sorry about the tiff with Kyle. Kids can hurt us so deep, and we let them do it. But there is lots of love there so I know he will make it right today.

Janice ~ I like your way of thinking.

Maria ~ You so don't deserve to be treated like that. Blow it off - their loss not yours.

Marilyn ~ You will LOVE the Blind Side. It is one movie I will never forget.

Ann ~ How's our girl feeling this morning?

Nancy ~ Thanks so much my dear friend. I so apprecite your kind words.

Thanks everyone for your hugs, kind words and good thoughts. I know you all are right, but it is still very hard. Tomorrow will be better.

Ann ~ How's our girl feeling this morning?

.

She seems to be doing a bit better last night and today. Keeping the motrin is close by if needed. Thank you for asking.

I was planning pasta and cheesy garlic bread for dinner, but DH wants KFC. So who am I to argue.

Good morning!

Does anybody know how to tell the difference between a run of the mill sinus headache (errr, face ache) and an actual infection? :confused3

Last night we did what a lot of you did....sat around in pajamas watching the crazy people crammed into Times Square in the cold rain. :rotfl: There were so many fireworks going off around here that it was smoky enough outside to feel it in your eyes and throat. Anabelle wasn't happy about that. It was just constant noise for hours, but it was kinda fun at the same time. We could see a lot of them. :thumbsup2

Starting the night~
