The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Ellen I would have been laughed at from here to next week. I work for with a bunch of guys who do heating and air conditioning.:rolleyes1

I did a bunch of little odds and ends today swapped out my nonworking satelite box, fixed my screen door, turned back on the thermastat. Wow I am tired.

Making pizza for dinner.

Hey y'all,

It's a nasty day in Nola. We have our Nola Dis girls party tonight, some are going to miss it due to the weather. Our friend Lauri U is sick too & won't be able to make it. :sad1: I'm hoping this is the worst of it coming through now & it clears up a bit for later. I'm bringing spinach artichoke dip and champagne! Can't wait to see my gal pals!

Lori, GOOD LUCK!!!! That would be awesome if you won! Yes I enjoyed the drinks around the world last night! :thumbsup2 Keep up the good work!

Lauren, TWO SHAKERS! :lmao: Tom does love his pink drinks doesn't he?! ;)

Aimee, What a sweet husband!!!

Ann, I see you couldn't stay away from FB! :goodvibes

Ellen, I'm glad you are getting to spend the day with Ethan. That little guy just tugs at my heart! Thanks to Jay and your whole family! That is quite a sacrifice that you all make for us & our country!

Quick flyby before heading out with the girls./ We are going to teh WOrcester Centrum to see Cirque Du Soliel. Marisa tried to get us to leave the wheelchair home but there is no way I am going to let her try to navigate that place with one crutch. Talk to you all later!

Dinner last night turned out to be tuna on hard rolls for Buddy and chicken salad with cranberries and walnuts for me. He was craving his tuna and I was all too willing to agree :thumbsup2

I am starting to get the Christmas cards:yay::yay: Buddy is so cute, every year he reads every one of the!

Good morning ladies!

Had a great time with my NOLA gals last night but unfortunately the weather was so bad many areas flooded and some couldn't get out of their neighborhoods to join us. It's been a long time since I stayed out past 2AM.

WFD - Cajun chuck steaks with mushroom wine gravy, mashed potatoes and green beans.

GEAUX SAINTS!

Hey ladies! From the looks of it we are all in the Holiday swing of things. We had a party in our neighborhood Friday night and Scott's work party last night. I'm sure someone ended up with a lampshade on their head dancing after we left last night. Given enough free booze those engineers can get pretty crazy. :lmao: They were trying to get me out on the dance floor but I informed them there wasn't enough margaritas at the bar to get me out there. And then strangely enough, after that, the drinks were being made much stronger. ;)

We are headed out in a few to go see "The Princess and the Frog" Got my free child's movie ticket when I was in WDW in Oct, and the Fandango has a deal for Visa Signature card holders for B1G1--so we're all going and only paying for 2 tickets! Woot! Then after we get home, it's time to start my baking extravaganza! My evil twin decided that cookie plates would make good teacher gifts (and school break starts the end of the week) and she also decided to host the Walgreen's party at my house. Someone stop her, this evil twin seems to think I have time to spare between now and Xmas!:rotfl:

Ann--glad to "see" you on FB! We had a little problem with both kids moving them to big kid beds--just too easy to get out of. But after being consistent about moving them back to bed, they are pros now! Crossing fingers that your ds "gets it" quick! I have to have my own bed space too!

Lauren--Two shakers! Genius!

Hoping to get my Xmas cards out this week. They are in transit to me, so as soon as I can address them and get them out again. At the rate I'm going y'all might get them by New Year's.

Oh, and GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!:cheer2::cheer2:

Icky weather here today! Getting ready to head out though, I have to go get the tree from storage and go to Trader Joe's to pick up a few things and return something to Best Buy.

Need to work on cards and quilts today. Dinner tonight will be chuck steak and I am going to tweek a Rachel Ray recipe for potatoes and spinach I saw today. If it turns out good I will post it.

Busy day but the weather is gorgeous! It's been BRR cold all week and now it's in the 70s :confused3 Dh is on the golf course (of course).

Tonight we have a live nativity for families at a church members home and they do hot dogs for everyone so I'll be eating that. DH has a family party, that I THANKFULLY always have a good excuse for, so he'll be eating there.

WFD- Perdue oven roasted chicken (this is a first, comes preseasoned in an oven bag), ranch seasoned roasted red bliss potatoes, gravy, cranberry, carrots (for DH), snap peas (for me)

Off to play a little on facebook now.

Hey everyone! I'm home, and have come back to chat!!!

Things in New York were wonderful! My nephew is a doll, and we had a wonderful time spoiling him (not to mention each other!). It was nice to get back, though. Timothy is letting me know he did not appreciate me leaving him for 4 days, though. He is very clingy (and the fact that he's teething like crazy is not helping!), and cranky!

While I was gone, things went on here! Alan did a great job at getting the kids to and from school, and not letting the house fall apart! What a great man I have.

Yesterday, we managed to get our second tree up, lit and decorated! It's so pretty! It really got me in the holiday mood! Now I just have to find all the presents I've hidden around the house, and wrap them. That's the chore for this week. Not to mention the cards. I've ordered them from Costco, and they'll be ready to pick up tomorrow. I'll start getting them out right after that! Hopefully, y'all will get them by Christmas.

This morning I woke up to a veritable winter wonderland! It has snowed here since about 2:00 yesterday afternoon. We currently have about 9 inches in our front yard! We got a call this morning that church was cancelled, since people were slipping and sliding all over the place, so we are hunkered down, today, enjoying Christmas movies, and hot cocoa. I'm cleaning the kitchen so I can make a batch of cinnamon rolls, and a new cookie recipe. If it's good, I'll post it! It has pumpkin and currants in it! Yum!

Alan has been cooking the last few days, so I feel the need to get in the kitchen! He made homemade chicken soup on Friday which we finally finished at lunch today, and yesterday, he started a crockpot of chili. It's been cooking all day yesterday, and we finally get to eat it tonight. I'm making cornbread to go along with it. I like my chili over mashed potatoes, so we'll also do some of those to have! Yum!!! I'm hungry!

I hope you all are having a great Sunday! I have loved all the cards I've received so far! You brighten my holidays!!!!

It's supposed to get in to the 50's for the next two days here then back in to the 30's.

Dsis called! Was a bit of a shock to look at my cell phone and see the call from her, forgot that the first stop is Key West. :rotfl:

She called to ask if I wanted a magnet from there. Didn't really get a chance to talk, they were in a store and she needed to visit the restroom.

So good to have you back! sounds like you had a great trip and that your family was safe and sound while you were gone. Hope Timothy chills out soon ;)

Oooh, that sounds awful! Does Benadryl help at all? You know that's my magic cure for just about everything

I made a bad financial decision tonight that I have to fess up to someone 'cause I sure as heck aren't telling DH! When mom was here in Sept, she mentioned a need for a bag to carry to the parks when she goes as a guest. I told her Vera Bradley has the perfect park bag for what we carry - a mini hipster. I told her I'd keep my eye out and they usually go on sale/clearance. Well, I've never been into VB so I didn't check very often. Just this week she said she went to check them out trying to find a good bag for when we're there and she was shocked at the prices. She saw them at Hallmark, so full price. I told her I would check the prices online. So I did, but never got around to ordering them and then I realized this weekend that it was about too late! I looked for an outlet or something but there is only one (in Chicago) so I would have to pay full price in any of the stores. Long story a little shorter, I paid $33 for overnight shipping so I'll get them by Wed  It almost doubled my purchase price!! But the sale items were additional 10% off so I picked up a wallet for each of us and a mini hipster for each of us. Just to make SURE it'll get here before we leave, I'm going to call their Customer Service in the morning to verify. I can always have it shipped to mom if it can't be but I'd love to have that stuff for the trip down.

I'm still  at the shipping costs. I can't even remember the last time I paid shipping for something! Oh well. My fault for putting it off.

Lauri- I hope that the symptoms from that reaction are gone today

Aimee-look at it this way...It's Christmas! Enjoy that bag, you got it on sale!

Glynis- I love to travel anywhere but like you, I love to get back home. Buddy laughs becasue I always tell him that I love home!

Kat- My cards will be done in the next few days too. I had them so I have no excuse other than I am a Flylady Flop ;)

Ann- I can't wait to get to FB to say HI!

Had a good time yesterday at cirque! Kad y said it felt like it lasted less than ten minutes, she was that mesmerized! Marisa's employer did a wonderful job there. Parking was paid, there was a nice breakfast and then face painting and balloon animals for the kids...and for adult who felt like kids :goodvibes...as well as a juggler, a living statue and a snow angel. Kady loved the guy who could balance a ladder on his chin! Her employer bought the entire show so although it was crowded there was good seating for everyone.

Today I am back on track I hope. Dinner is pizza meatloaf, baked potatoe adn a string bean and carrot medley. I really don;t like frozen veggies anymore but I have them so I am using them.

Good Morning! I had a nice weekend with Tom home...we got a lot done for Xmas. I should be receiving my cards today so I should have them out by Wed...the only one that may not receive by Xmas is Vickie. I so wanted to get the card out sooner to you Vick...I hope it gets there on time.

I have been reading but too whirl winded to post. Tom left early yesterday to get through the horrible weather but he made it home safe. I went out with T in the horrid weather and got some stuff done but forgot a few things so we need to go back today.

Glynis, glad you had a nice trip!

Lauri D, I hope your foot gets better fast. Hugs to you.

Aimee, Don't worry my friend. I have done the same thing with shipping. It was on sale so you made up there.

Nancy, sounds like a great time!

OK, gotta get A off to school and off and running here. Have a great day all...BBL to catch up more.

just wanted to add that i am making the soup Aimee posted last week for dinner...can't wait. Unless my BIL who may stay wants to order food in instead. He hates to see me cook! I guess I am happy about that!

Morning all,

DH has his first day today on his own. Boss told him to expect a very long day. Since we are not sure what the day will bring ... I am going to play dinner by ear. Something easy and quick. Either pulled pork sandwiches (which I bought) or pot pies.

Going to be out most of the day with DM. If DH is not going to be home till very late then he told me just to eat dinner with them.

Maria, Welcome home!!!!

Vickie, just wondering if my Christmas card found it's way to you??

Good morning. It's a freezing Monday here! We got some more snow during the night, but apparently not enough to close the schools. I'll keep checking, though. I hate the thought of sending the kids out in the snow when it's up to their knees, but I do like the time with them in school. I get so much more accomplished!

On today's list is laundry, laundry and more laundry. While Alan was wonderful at keeping things together while I was gone, it did not include doing any laundry. Consequently, Mt. Washmore has taken up residence at my house. Time to do something about that! While the laundry is going, I plan to wrap presents, pick up my Christmas cards (and toilet paper which we ran out of last night), start addressing them, and try to squeeze in a nap!

On Saturday, we went through our freezer, and found a lot of food we didn't know we had, so dinner tonight will be tilapia that's been in the freezer for a while. It was already flash frozen, so hopefully, it will still taste good. I'm not sure how I want to cook it, though. I'll either do it with a lot of butter and garlic, or do it with a recipe for Greek fillets. I don't have any veggies in the house, so I'll pick something up while I'm out. I think I'll do a rice pilaf, as well.

Have a great Monday, everyone. Stay warm and dry!

Aimee – I have also done the same thing, looks like we all have.

Nancy – Sounds like Marisa’s employer went all out and really cares about keeping the employees happy!:thumbsup2

Lauren – I just mailed Vick’s card on Saturday, hoping she gets it! All the others went out today!!!!!

Maria – Welcome home! Can’t wait to hear about your trip!

Ann – Hoping Ron’s first day on his own goes well and he doesn’t have to work too late.

Lauri U -
