The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Maria, That is beautiful! I'm all teary now. I join you in prayers for all birth mothers. I'm also praying that you & Greg will have a little to love very soon.

Afternoon Ladies,

I am such a dork, but what is TNFNS? I have tried to figure this out for over an hour. :confused3

Glynis ~ your get together sounded like so much fun. I truly believe that the impromptu gatherings are the best.

Marilyn ~ I am so glad you found your chair. I know you had been looking for awhile.

Maria ~ you made me cry. What a wonderful story. God Bless you!!

Aimee ~ I was so glad to see you out having fun. You, my friend, SO deserve it. As far as your little girl getting hurt. I feel you handled it in the way "Safe Sanctuary" teaches everybody. If the parents want to take it further let them, they will anyway, no matter how many times you apologize or try to explain. You did good and I would leave it at that.

Nancy ~ I agree - PARENTS!!! And we wonder what is wrong with Kids these days. Enough Said!!!

Kat ~ Loved the Pudding Cake. My Matthew will love this. Thanks!!

Sheryl ~ Thanks for the good wishes for Jay. Bless your heart, but please take care of you for now.

Vicki ~ Sounds like you had a great weekend. Good for you!! Yes, I would love to see your Pictures.

To everyone else ~ love and good wishes to you all.

Lazy lazy weekend here. This was the first weekend that we had been home in weeks. We had lots to do but we just enjoyed being home. Now today it is raining and lots of thunder. Only supposed to be in the 70's and raining the rest of the week. Where is my summer?

I will get day 2 & 3 posted of my trip report today. I am so glad you are enjoying it.

WFDT ~ Grilled (maybe) chicken sandwiches with pesto Mayo, pasta salad, cucumbers, pepper, yellow squash and tomatoes - I love the summer bounties - and Raspberry ice tea.

Make it a great day everyone.

Day 2 – Tuesday June 16th
We were all up at 8:00. I got in the shower first then Doug. We grabbed the mugs and went to get coffee for Doug, Matthew and me and Strawberry milk for Ali. Wow, the minute I opened the door I about died. It was hot already. The weather at home had been so cool before we left that I knew the heat was going to be a problem. We got back and the kids were ready to go. We left the room at 9:15. As we walked to the bus stop I stopped at Bell Services to see if our Garden Grocer order had been delivered yet. It hadn’t but they said when it was they would take it to our room for us. That was kind of neat. We walked to the bus stop and a bus was waiting for the Magic Kingdom. We were walking in and down Main Street at 10:00. Oh my, that first sight of the Castle always makes me cry. Matthew went and got Fast Passes for Splash Mountain for us and we headed over to Fantasy Land. We met up outside of IASW. We all went in. This is ALWAYS our first ride. When my Mother was with us she loved this ride and we always had to do it first. Since Momma died we always still do it first. It is so hard and I have to admit a few tears are shed by all of us but I feel so close to her also. Next we headed for Pirates and we had to stand in a line. I was shocked. It wasn’t to long maybe 10 –15 minutes but we usually jus walk on. From there we went to the Haunted Mansion. There was also a line but it moved very fast and soon we were in our buggies. We then headed back to Main Street for our lunch at Tony’s Town Square. We all just love this place. We walked up to check in and the Hostess was turning people away right and left. She looked at me and I told her my name and she looked so relieved. I requested to sit out in the glass enclosed patio. I just love the view from there. Matthew noticed that the Host that seated us was from Omaha. He seemed so glad to talk to someone close to home. We started out with drinks and the brought out some bread with dipping oils. Doug had an appetizer of Mozzarella and tomatoes. He shared. I had tomato and onion flat bread, Ali had the Chicken Caesar salad, Matthew had the Chicken Parmesan, and Doug had Spaghetti and Meatballs. We all had dessert too. I had the Pistachio Brule, Doug had the 3 sorbets, Matthew had the cheesecake and Ali had the chocolate cake. We had such a nice lunch and we’re in no hurry to leave and never made to feel rushed. I just love to sit and watch the people rush by and the looks on their faces. As we were leaving the Host came up to us and asked if lunch was as good as Valentino’s or Runza’s. We all just cracked up, because these are place you can find only in Nebraska. If you aren’t from Nebraska you have no idea how good these places are. But no – lunch was much better!!
We went over to use our FP’s for Splash Mountain but while we were at lunch the ride was down and was just now up and running again. So the FP line was 90 minutes long. No thanks, we’ll come back later. We went over and got FP’s for BTMR. We decided to do Pirates again as the line was much shorter. We then went into the Tiki Birds, which was a walk on. The heat was so bad that we were always looking for the air conditioning. I sang along much to the dismay of my family. Teehee! By now the line for Splash was a walk on so in we went. Matthew and Ali were in the front and got completely soaked. Doug and I got wet but they looked like they just got off of Kili River Rapids. On a day as hot as today no one was complaining. From there we went over and walked on to BTMR. I was so surprised as Doug even rode with us. We all had a great time. But for the life of me I couldn’t get him to ride it again. We went over to the Haunted Mansion and the wait time was1 ½ - no way. I have never seen that kind of line for there before. We decided to go to Mickey’s Philharmagic and walked right into the waiting room. But it was cool so we didn’t care, we waited about 15 minutes for the next show. We got FP’s for Buzz and went over to the Carousel of Progress. I sang along here as well. I just love that song. We went to Buzz and used our FP’s. We hadn’t even gotten to the second room and Ali had 999,999. I have no idea what she hit but her fun was over way to soon. Matthew was shocked and spent the rest of the trip trying to also get that score. It never happened. LOL We then decided to do the Monster’s Laugh Floor. While waiting in line Ali and I texted a joke in – Why is Cinderella not very good at basketball? Cuz she’s always running away from the ball. LOL Cute huh? Well they decided to use it. WooHoo In fact about 20 minutes later I received a text saying - Thx 4 sending that joke. Sulley is still ROTFLOL Getting fur everywhere. Mike Wazowski. How cool is that?
We took a quick bathroom break and went and check out the wait for the Haunted Mansion again. It was out the door but looked to be moving fast so we joined the line. We were on in about 15 minutes. We were getting hungry so we decided to go to Casey’s for a hotdog. We sent the boys to go get a table and Ali and I got the food. She took the drinks out and when she came back she said we’d better hurry as it looked like a bad storm was heading our way. I got the hot dogs, corn dog nuggets and fries and headed out. Oh my, the sky was black and you could hear the thunder rolling in. We ate and watched the forecourt show. Ali had a ball feeding the ducks and Ibis. She is going to the University to be a Veterinarian, so anytime there were any sort of animals or birds you would find Ali. She had a ball. We finished up and went over to get ice cream. I finally figured out why there is always a line there – They are so s l o w. They had 2 people working in the back and they would do one order at a time. Good grief this was the longest line we stood in the whole trip. FINALLY we get our ice cream and head for the door and there are people just standing there, not moving. Well we looked out and saw real quick why. The storm had finally hit. It is raining buckets, sheets, cats and dogs. We excused our way out and went around the corner and decided to wait it out. Well we finished our ice cream and it was still pouring. We decided that we would just stay put for a bit. We were staying dry and having fun watching everyone getting soaked. It was so funny, every little boy that walked by splashed through the big puddles and all of the little girls would walk around it. We started betting on what each little one would do when they walked by. We sat there for an hour and it still wasn’t letting up. Of course our ponchos were back at the room and I was NOT buying anymore but we were getting tired of just standing there.
So we decided to just cash it in and go back to the room, even though it was only 7:30. We headed out of our refuge and ran to each awning until we got to the Candy store. We went in to see what they had and when we came out it was down to a steady drizzle. We walked to the bus stop. By the way, the Pop Century stop is the furthest one away. At one point the walkway was completely flooded. We waited about 20 minutes for a bus all the while hearing Matthew and Doug bemoaning the fact that if we were staying at the Contemporary like we always do that we would be back in our room by now. Talk about spoiled!! I just ignored them.
We had to stand but got on the 4th bus. We got back to the room and our Garden Grocer order was there. I was so disappointed that it wasn’t right, but there wasn’t anything we could do about it so we just accepted it and carried on. We grabbed our mugs and went and bought a deck of cards. We sat in the Food Court and played pitch until midnight. We had a nice night. But part of me kept thinking that this was so wrong. I didn’t come to Disney World to sit and play cards, but with the rain it was better than sitting in the room and we really did have fun. We went back to the room and we all were in bed by 12:30.

My girlfriend Sharon who lost her FIL a few weeks ago now has her Dad in CCU, he was rushed to the hospital after falling off his boat, thank goodness he had a buddy with him. Being he was admitted to a very small hospital by the beach they had to transport him to a medical center around here because they didn't have the team/equipment needed. He is scheduled for surgery at noon. Please keep him in your prayers.

One of my girlfriends shared a story with me of a couple that went through a site for their second adoption so we are going to give it a try. Our goal is 2 children.
If you have a second please take a look at share your opinions, any ideas are appreciated. It was very emotional & tough for me to do over the weekend.
http://gregandmaria.viviti.com/

Dinner tonight is grilled fish, whatever looks good when I go & salad.

I will keep Sharon's dad in my prayers, have you gotten word on the surgery yet?

Maria, I'm in tears as well. I continue to pray that you two are blessed with children soon because you have so much love to share. Those children will be the lucky ones.

I'll try and catch up with y'all soon..........

Maria, I think you expressed yourselves wonderfully on the blog. Reading your story brought me to tears as well, I can't wait to share happy tears for you when your little one arrives at the beginning of the year. He will be one blessed, loved and cherished child. Continued love, support, and prayers for you and Greg on your journey.

Ellen , love the TR.

------ Emma is loosing her hair.

------- I have to go to the OB tomorrow to have a stitch removed from my tubal incision that just won't fall out and has become infected.

Oh no, do you feel ok? Do you have any pain?

Thanks for all the feedback on the blog, it was hard to be factual & not overly emotional.
Tomorrow is our big day at the agency!!! We will leave here at 7am because we have to travel to Trenton & the traffic very heavy.
If we aren't emotionally exhausted we will go for seafood by the beach on the way home.

Off to make a salad...bbl

Maria Your blog is beautiful  You got me with the empty spot at the dinner table. I wish you much luck tommorow. Try and get some good sleep tonight.

Ann Poor Emma why does that happen to some babies and not others? I don't remember Alex losing any. I remember he had some extra hair on the back of his neck that the doctor said would come off when I bathed him. Well I scrubbed and scrubbed until he was bright pink. He still has it :lmao:

Sheryl Sorry your one glove made me think of Micheal Jackson :rolleyes1

I am fine, no pain...darn thing just won't fall out, nothing a band-aid and some Bacitracin Ointment couldn't control...I was so tempted to tweeze it myself but DH and DM warned me not to.:confused3

Don't say that about the extra hair ( my DH will freak out)...Emma has some there to. I told him she will lose it.

Maria, I will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Mari- Sharon is in my prayers along with her Dad.

I needed to wait to post after reading your story, I was so touched. I know that you and Greg will have your baby soon, you are all in my prayers.

How is your Mom doing lately?

No worries!!! Nan usually tells me before 7am so dont worry if anyone posts spoilers. It doesnt bother me.

I never tell you....you just guess after I tell you if I am happy or not :rolleyes1

The aide situation is working out! Thanks for the prayers.

I feel bad for her, but much worse for the poor people not getting decent care because the place is so understaffed.

I missed the last episode & it didn't record!

Thank goodness the aide is working out! I think that the elderly get such a raw deal when they go into nursing homes. Unless there is an advocate for them it can be pretty awful. My friend Bill was in the same home his wife was in a few years ago. I dropped in at night and I was shocked to see this big burly ex policeman/Marine fighting back tears. He needed help washing and asked the aid to be careful, he was in a lot of pain. She was so rough and he was so raw and irritated that he was seeing stars! Well, I was at that desk so fast! Let's just leave it with these folks were terrified that I was going to have the State in there checking for elder abuse, I was that mad. He told me that he had been praying I would show up. I was just getting out of work and had not intended to visit but was drawn in.

Another one of my elderly friends was in a rehab/nursing unit and when I visited she was distraught. She had been given an enema and then left there! Her son was in England so the staff thought that she had no one watching over her but again, they were surprised! I called her son and her DIL thought that she was lying but I had cleaned this lady's home every week for years and had taken her to all of her Dr appointments and had her in my home for every Holiday. SHe was not lying, she was scared that they would hurt her again.

Go to foodtv.com and see if trhe episodes are there to see.

Marisa drives a Pilot, you would make it in there. For a long time I took Buddy's truck...now that is a big truck! I love driving it but I have Nola now so we take my Highlander.

We had lots to do but we just enjoyed being home. Now today it is raining and lots of thunder. Only supposed to be in the 70's and raining the rest of the week. Where is my summer?

Ellen- summer is no where in sight! WE have had rain rain rain, cold and dreary days. Right now Buddy had Kady at the lake, it was hot today and he is hoping to get there and have her swimming for a little while before the thunder starts. It was rumbling in the background so he was worried they could miss out but decided to see. None for over an hour so maybe it was just teasing!

I spoke to Gretchen today~
Her Dad is starting to have some confusion & forgetting things, he had to undergo a transfusion for Anemia. The next day he felt a little better. Friday he had no treatment because he was dehydrated.

She sounds strong.....really holding up for her Mom. Hailey is handling all the changes very well. Kenny is being very supportive & strong.
Please continue prayers for all:grouphug:

Listen to them please!

Ellen - Loving your TR!! I'd rather be playing cards in WDW than playing cards at home.......;) seriously I totally understand, I feel guilty sleeping when I'm there!!

Ann, Sorry about the stitch & the added dr appt. Alexis had really long straight black hair when she born. I was so sad when it started falling out, but her's came back quickly, totally different color light brown.

Maria, My prayers are with you tomorrow!

Janice, I'm glueing the sequins on now!

Nan, That's so sad. It's a good thing you showed up when you did. The aide is pretty much whining about her other job. At least it sounds like she does the job, she said she didn't take her 1/2 hr break the last 2 nights.

Maria, thanks for the update on Gretchen.

Gretchen, sending prayers and strength to you all. :grouphug:

Pardon my pry for more info, and tell me if you'd rather not divulge more info. What is the meeting at the agency about? I have not known anyone close enough to hear about the entire adoption process so I'm not overly familiar with the multiple steps you have to take.

You'll both be in my prayers tomorrow

Oh, I'm sorry  Just a rollercoaster right now for her.

Update on my toddler issue - SS teacher spoke with dad, who had already started to calm down. Mom had talked him mostly off the ledge on the way home. Dad said it's all just new to them but agreed that since it was an isolated incident, and daughter loves that room so much and went right back to playing, that she's obviously find and happy there. I am going to call tomorrow and offer them an opportunity for her to move back to the younger class until the older kids in the toddler room move up (in 3 weeks) OR that one of them come shadow her in class for a few weeks. I don't know if they will take either option but at least they'll know I've considered the options and am open to making a chance so they will feel more comfortable.

Vent- Marisa told me that some parents wer crazy mad at the theater. I understand being angry that your child was upset but taking it out on the movie help by using foul and offensive language is :sad2:. One lady lost it completely and threatened the poor ticket takers and then used language that would make your hair curl in front of a lobby filled with children.

I hate it when people act like that in front of their kids!
Hot Fudge Pudding Cake (makes 8 servings)

Looks good. I will have to make this when my DN's visit in a couple of weeks. The little one is allergic to tree nuts and the last time I made this I used a Pampered Chef mix. :headache: It has the "made on equipement" warning and she couldn't have any.

If you have a second please take a look at share your opinions, any ideas are appreciated. It was very emotional & tough for me to do over the weekend.

Dinner tonight will be leftover chicken from dinner last night. My DM made it, actually cooked it in the oven :woohoo: and put just a little wine on it :sad2:

I noticed she had bought some crockpot chicken seasoning packets somewhere this weekend. :rotfl:

.

Tomorrow we spend the day with a few other couples so we can be a support system each other.
We will also get (hopefully) a much better time frame but the bulk of the day is about bonding with the babies after so much trauma has happened in their short life. By the time we get Jack he would have lost his birth mother & foster mother so depending on the baby we could all have some hard times ahead. They also address how to help the baby adjust with the time difference, jet lag & food changes.
I know I'm missing more topics...just can't think of them:confused3
